carnage in the NFL! 7 coaches & 5 general managers get whacked on 'black monday' with more to come no doubt. so if your resume is in order and you're looking for a highly paid position, take your pick of cities. if you like the cold...new york, philly, buffalo, cleveland, chicago, kansas city.......or head west to san diego or arizona. one word of advice: lease, don't buy.
normally, when a coach gets fired, there's some emotion regarding his dismissal, either pro or con but a giant shrug of the shoulders is what i'm getting from bears fans. either way was fine with most of them. lovie got us to the playoffs three times in nine years....a 67% failure rate will get you fired from most jobs.
the bears deserved everything they got regarding the playoffs. a terrible offense that relied on the defense to win games and some real bad in-game coaching decisions.. jay cutler is NOT the answer and they should trade him with one year left on his contract. the defense will still be ok for two more years but they need to draft only on one side of the ball.
there are some people who should never be a head coach, like romeo crennel. in six years on the job with two different teams, he was 28-55, one victory for every two losses. his strong suit is defensive line play & special teams. keep him there.
on the college side, notre dame fans are still crying that manti te'o finished as the runner up for the heisman trophy but if you think that whining is iritating, wait until the morning of january 8th.
does northern illinois have a chance???
will the SEC dominate the bowls again?
we'll meet again soon. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A FULL BAG OF SPORTS
well, the irish haters get their wish with a title clash against ALABAMA, the pride of the SEC. the irish are definitely over-rated but they have found a way to win close games all year, including two overtime calls although both were aided by phantom referee calls. the oddsmakers say 8 or 9 but i think it'll be more. ALABAMA 24-7.
the CHICAGO BEARS deserve whatever happens to them regarding the playoffs. LOVIE SMITH makes a horrible coaching decision by eschewing a field goal and the defense has seattle buried 97 yards away at the end of the game but lets them escape to force overtime. they beat the bad teams and can't beat the good ones.
the game sunday is an absolute MUST if they want to make the post season.
the CHICAGO BULLS play great basketball for 3 1/2 quarters but they don't have a closer and let the games slip away. get used to it until #1 comes back.
ready for some hot stove chatter? the just released HALL OF FAME ballot includes first time eligibles SAMMY SOSA, ROGER CLEMENS and BARRY BONDS along with 3rd year nominee MARK MCGUIRE. discuss.
the NHL blows. simple as that. they've cheated the shrinking fan base twice in five years and for what? the players ALWAYS lose when negotiations and lockouts drag on because once they start missing paychecks, they start conceding to the owners. look for the lockout to be ended sometime this month.
BRET BIELEMA is about to find out what real football is all about. he leaves wisconsin prior to the rose bowl to take a job at ARKANSAS, in the best football conference in the world. bielema, who struggled with in-game adjustments will get crushed if he brings 'big ten football' to the SEC. watching 'big ten football' is like watching paint dry.
and how's this for the ultimate ego trip? BARRY ALVAREZ is the athletic director at wisconsin and HASN'T COACHED IN 7 YEARS but when bilema leaves, alvarez promotes HIMSELF to head coach for the rose bowl! bet that made the top assistants feel real good but it did send a message to all the assistants that bielema hired. get your resumes updated.
finally, what do poinsettias, potatos, roses, pizza, oranges, pinstripes, a compass, cotton and the alamo all have in common? give up? scroll down
they all have college football bowl games named after them! adios for now.

NEWS & NOTES
well, the dust has finally settled from november 6th and one thing is clearly evident in the political world. the republican party is so far removed from the middle class that they have zero chance of ever regaining national prominence unless they modify their hard line stances on several issues, including a women's right to choose and taxation of the rich.
the republicans have totally lost the black, hispanic and female voters and when you do that, you're toast. MR. ROMNEY'S now famous "47%" remarks about minorities pretty much sum up how republicans look at the worls. a select few should rule the country. sorry, but that ain't happening any more.
regarding increased taxation, to paraphrase what the president said recently, "if the rich have to pay a little more, they're still rich but the same doesn't apply to those in lower tax brackets." makes perfect sense to me.
this country has a lot of problems and the republicans are under tremendous pressure to work with the president after months of rhetoric indicating they were more than willing to work in a bi-partisan manner. there can't be any more stalemates in the republican controlled house if the old guard still want to respected on the natinal level.
what's done is done. you got your asses kicked in the election.....now man up and work WITH the president and get the country moving forward again. voting 'no' automatically just because a bill was introduced by a democratic is idiotic and only serves to hurt this country and from everything i hear, the majority of people are tired of the same old crap in the house. so if you want to keep the majority in the house in two years, start working WITH the democrats and get something done.
big time kudos to CHRIS CRISTIE, the republican governor of new jersey who said the hell with you and complimented the president for the response shown to his area after the flood. christie was taken to task by the republican party for his public response to the disaster, which is so typical. christie's reaction? "hey, i don't agree with the president on many issues but they got this one absolutely right and fair is fair. a big pat on the back to his entire emergency response staff."
and that, my friends, is how human beings are supposed to act.
moving along, JESSE JACKSON, JR. is waiting for the other federal shoe to fall in the form of an indictment and pre-set guilty plea. jackson was given some space while he received treatment for depression and anxiety but he recently terminated his treatment at the MAYO CLINIC. the investigation has been ongoing for a couple of years and jackson will end up losing his seat in the house and spending a little jail time in a federal prison. and now there's rumblings that his wife, SANDY, a chicago alderman, is also being investigated for misappropriation of campaign funds. a CHICAGO ALDERMAN breaking the law???????? be still my heart. it can't be true! that's it for now. have a good holiday.

ALL SORTS OF SPORTS
even before the cheap shot that knocked him out of the game, it was once again painfully apparent to real fans that JAY CUTLER cannot perform well in big games as his production under the bright lights of national games continues to be non-existent. wait dan....he was 7-1 before sunday night, right? absolutely correct but 7 of 14 for 40 yards tonight??????? just jump in the old time machine and check out his record in big games against big teams. cutler pumps his stats against the weak sisters in the league but spits the bit almost every time in big games. coming into this year, he was 24-17 but teams like the 49ers, packers, texans, ravens and giants are just a few of the upper level teams who have grounded air cutler, who has NEVER won anything in his career. not in high school, not in college and certainly not in the pros. enough is enough. you can't suceed long term with him. buh-bye.
has ROBBIE GOULD entered that point in his career where his kicking is now a 'cross your fingers' situation? gould has now missed two HUGE field goals this year on kicks that were automatic a couple of years ago. yes, it was rainy & the field was chopped up but that's why they pay him the big bucks.
KELLEN DAVIS?? a piece of garbage who single handedly turned the momentum around THREE FREAKIN TIMES in the first half. ONE catch for six yards, two missed blocks, two drops and a fumble. nice game, jerkoff. he truly needs to be released THIS WEEK to send a message that this is your job and you need to be ready to play.
but things could be worse. we could live in detroit and be rooting for the most overrated pre-season team in nfl history. the lions pissed away another game on sunday and now face elimination games over the next seven weeks as they have to jump 4 teams just to get to the playoff picture and six of those games are against teams with winning records. i said it in august.......they all had career years last year and they would be taking a giant step backward this season. case closed.
ALABAMA gets whacked by A & M 29-24 IN tuscaloosa and throws away their chance at a BCS title game. and now i pray that KANSAS STATE & OREGON stay perfect to keep those cheating irish bastards out of the big game.
a week ago, pittsburgh has the cheatin' bastards on the ropes when an official throws a late flag for yet another south bend phantom interference. even the announcers commented that they couldn't find the foul. and to make matters worse, when the kid from pitt misses the game winning field goal, the referees suddenly develop group blindness and miss the irish violation of two players on the field at the same time with the same number. HOW DO YOU MISS TWO NUMBER 2'S ON THE FIELD?? that penalty would have given pitt another try and it's crap like this that boils the cauldron of hatred toward ND. enjoy the weak sister ACC, you dirt bags. that's it for now. adios.

PIGSKIN MADNESS
congratulations to NOTRE DAME, who went into norman and kicked the crap out of the sooners. i still have my doubts about their offense but the schedule indicates a 12-0 season and a berth in the FIESTA BOWL against KANSAS STATE or OREGON. the irish are not quite good enough to play in the big game but they're better than i thought.
"BIG GAME" BOB STOOPS???????????
this guy couldn't outcoach his mother in a big game. this is the same guy who opened the door for BOISE STATE'S whining over the last 5 years when he spit the bit as a 25 point favorite and lost 43-42 .
he was also outcoached by LSU in 2003 when the sooners were a 10 point favorite for the national championship and lost 21-14. and don't forget when they were also the favorite in the title game against FLORIDA in 2008 and got dumped 24-14. and then saturday, with a chance to move right back into the title game picture, they roll over and play dead AT HOME 30-13. check his bowl record. they only win the minor bowls, which is all they deserve. garbage.
i can GUARANTEE you one thing next saturday NIGHT in baton rouge. EVERY notre dame fan in the world will be rooting for LSU to drop ALABAMA because a 'bama win pretty much shuts the door on the irish reaching the top of the rankings because they'll have to have help from either OREGON or KANSAS STATE to make the bcs title game. the ducks have a tough closing schedule but k-state has a shot at a flawless record for the regular seaso, which would slam the door in the leprechaun's face. and then there's a small matter of winning at USC. at least it's interesting. my christmas wish? i would love to see a LSU-notre dame championship game. mercy!
the worst overall sports program in the big ten? that's right....YOUR FIGHTING ILLINI. football, hoops, baseball, whatever, they out & out suck and belong in the mid-america conference. just terrible talent from the administration on down.
most over-rated program in the big ten? the WISCONSIN BADGERS. again, take your pick of sports because fat, slow & stupid NEVER wins anything. and the sad part is they'll be playing nebraska for the right to represent the big ten in the rose bowl when their conference record COULD BE.......drum roll please..........3 wins and 5 losses. how sick is that?
at the other end of the spectrum, it appears that the SEC might qualify TEN teams for bowl games and they'll all have winning record. what a difference.
see you in death valley saturday night. geaux tigers!

CHICAGO ANNOUNCERS
if life wasn't bad enough already for the chicago cubs, it actually got worse this week when WGN television analyst BOB BRENLY resigned after eight years on the job. brenly is quite simply one of the best in the business and his partnership with LEN KASPER was pure honey. without argument, they were the best baseball team announcers on chicago television and when paired with PAT HUGHES on the radio side, the cubs rated #1 in announcers. (excluding KEITH MORELAND, who should find another line of work)
brenly had originally replaced STEVE STONE in the color chair but like stone, was eventually overcome by the stench on the north side and is rumored to be heading to arizona to replace the drunken MARK GRACE on television or possibly going national. he could replace TIM McCARVER, who is JOE BUCK'S partner on FOX. mccarver just turned 71 and has done it all in 30+ years of broadcasting, winning three emmys along with being inducted into the broadcaster's wing of the hall of fame this past summer. at his age, mccarver has seen it all and might be ready to slow it down.
and what of the empty chair in the chicago television booth? KERRY WOOD would be a disaster. RICK SUTCLIFFE is a pretty good analyst and has a cubs background but maybe that's a bad thing.
how about this? STEVE STONE! stone, who left the cubs in 2006 when he felt the owners didn't back him or CHIP CARAY after DUSTY BAKER didn't like their honesty in the booth, is also one of the best in the business and does not have a good relationship with HAWK HARRELSON. stone has just one year left on his contract and a very good friendship with JERRY REINSDORF. hawk ain't going anywhere so it's possible that reinsdorf could let stone walk early to clear up the friction. and that would totally cripple the media part of the white sox.
ED FARMER & DARREN JOHNSON are absolute crap on the radio and i truly believe that i and my friend pete could do a better job and we have zero experience in the booth. they just suck. HAWK is the ultimate homer but his act has worn thin thru the years. if stone leaves, it would be the perfect time to retire hawk and send the other two walking.
and thank goodness that we're solid in all the other major chicago sports. PAT FOLEY & EDDIE OLCZYK rule the hockey air waves, NEIL FUNK & STACEY KING make the bulls tv broadcasts perfect and CHUCK SWIRSKY teams well on the radio side with BILL WENNINGTON. the bears are also very good with JEFF JONIAK & TOM THAYER. now if we could just clear up that mess on the south side.

ASSORTED THOUGHTS FOR YOU
first of all, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to all cub fans as it was nine years ago yesterday when my good friend, STEVE BARTMAN, changed the momentum of game six of the nlcs when he LEGALLY attempted to catch a foul ball down the left field line. he is forever my hero.
speaking of the cubs, a recent poll of national sportwriters put the cubs as the worst team in the league for NEXT YEAR with colorado finishing second.
"by far, the worst team in the last 30 years in MLB" said one scribe, "they simply have no players other than castro & rizzo." when asked how many games the cubs would lose in 2013, the consensus of 18 reporters was 112! be still my heart.
the WHITE SOX frustrated the hell out of their fans by doing a late september swan dive. leading by three games with ten to go, they went 2-8 and sunk like a rock. the team was a pleasant surprise and was in first place for 113 days but the 2013 edition could look drastically different as AJ, JAKE PEAVY & GAVIN FLOYD may be wearing other uniforms.
if bears fans think that the packers' talent level has dropped off, did you see that dismantling of the undfeated texans last night? wow. we all know the bears can't beat the packers so they better hold onto that division lead because they'll lose all the tiebreakers at the end of the year. and first place in the NFL means more than any other sport when you reach the playoffs.
the DETROIT LIONS will NOT be there at the end of the year but they are still very dangerous. beware next monday night.
JAY CUTLER is bothered by the criticism of his behavior. awwww, poor baby. just cover your face with that 15 million dollar paycheck and everything will be all right. cutler may be the biggest jerkoff in chicago since frank thomas and albert belle.
NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL IS BACK!!. at least until they play OKLAHOMA & USC on the road.
as i predicted, WISCONSIN is the best of a bad bunch and will probably represent the big ten in the rose bowl again this year. they play in a 6 team division in which two of the teams are ineligible for the post season, ohio state and pediphile university. thus, they only have to top illinois, indiana and purdue, three ghastly programs better suited for the MID-AMERICA CONFERENCE. so despite being fat, slow & stupid, the badgers will once again head west for the holidays .....where they'll be embarrassed once again.
that's all i got.

A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS
DREW PETERSON cost me a hundred bucks when he was found guilty of murder. my next bet says the verdict will be successfully appealed when the high courts throw out the 'hearsay law' that was passed just for the peterson trial. is he guilty? probably.....but allowing hearsay and 'voices from the grave' is a very scary thing for all of us.
POKER MACHINES are now legal in a couple of bars around the chicago area but they will be heavily scrutinized by state officials and maximum payouts will be severely limited. but people like to play so it will probably be state wide in a short amount of time. horse racing is a dying industry so the machines will help the state.
hey gov, poker machines are ok but not casinos? wake up!
CHRISTOPHER VAUGHN found guilty of murdering his family. the verdict was no surprise BUT this case was done the right way. letters, forensic evidence, bodies, direct conversations, etc. If you read the details of this trial, you'd be voting the death penalty back in. i truly understand when spouses kill each other but when you kill your own three kids at point blank range........
i feel bad for JESSE JACKSON JR. because being diagnosed as bi-polar and being treated for depression is a tough row to hoe but eventually (and soon) he will have to decide whether he can handle being a congressman while still being actively treated. will the medication keep him of sound mind or dull his senses? jackson was a very active political player and only missed two votes in 13 years but will he be able to handle the hours needed to be good at his job? he has until the end of october to make this difficult decision.
anyone catch the emmys? it was nice to see JON CRYER win for his role as allan harper on 'two and a half men' as he is truly a gifted actor with a great sense of timing. CHARLIE SHEEN never won during his 9 years on the show.
what the hell is "Veep?' JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS (from seinfeld) won best comedy actress for that show. one of these days, i'll have to order HBO.
see you later

GRAND THEFT FOOTBALL!!
i have no love lost for the GREEN BAY PACKERS but they got royally screwed by the replacement officials on monday night football. GOLDEN TATE, a cheating bastard from notre dame, committed a blatant foul on the last play of the game that WASN'T called and then received the benefit of the WORST call that i've seen in a long, long time to give the SEATTLE SEAHAWKS the win. i can't imagine how long that plane ride home was for the packers.
if anything good can come out of this, maybe the NFL powers-that-be will end the lockout with the regular officials because i GUARANTEE that these types of calls (or non-calls) will only magnify as we get deeper into the season and eventually, some jacked up lineman will explode with frustration and react to another blown call in a very physical way. mark that down.
on the other tv channel monday night, ADAM DUNN pulled the CHICAGO WHITE SOX from the abyss of defeat with two late inning home runs and kept them in first place, at least for one more day. with 41 homers, dunn has to be a very strong candidate for comeback player of the year. mercy!
by the way, don't believe the nfl standings in the sun-times. the CHICAGO BEARS have scored more points than the MINNESOTA VIKINGS and allowed less on defense. it won't last forever so enjoy your first place team!
over on the north side, the team that humiliates chicago on a regular basis still has a shot at a hundred losses. 3 games each against colorado, arizona and the dreadful houston astros. just to put it into perspectivehow bad these teams are: combine the records of the north side, colorado and houston to date and you have a combined 291 losses. two hundred and ninety-one. my fingers get tired just typing that.
i won my annual hundred dollar bet when the white sox won their 82nd game tonight and now i just need the north siders to lose 6 of the remaining 9 to cash in a real big ticket. no chance. they end up 64-98 and drown in their own vomit of mediocrity.

BASEBALL & FOOTBALL THOUGHTS
the WHITE SOX are the pride of chicago but i'm still whistling past the graveyard when i look at two things: their finishing schedule AND the detroit tigers. three games apiece against tampa bay and the angels are a little more difficult than the tiger schedule which gives them 12 consecutive games against kansas city and the twins to finish the season for the central division title. the tigers have the MVP and two great starters and a very soft schedule plus the talent to win 8 or 9 in a row. very scary.
P.S.--the loser of the central division DOESN'T make the playoffs.
THE SECOND WILD CARD in baseball was a stroke of genius by commissioner BUD SELIG. there are three teams in the american and four in the national that are duking it out for the wild card spots with two weeks to go in the regular season. good stuff.
why do the PITTSBURGH PIRATES fold every year?
JAY CUTLER is a dickhead and a loser. WHO was it that said that when the bears traded for him in 2009? oh yeah, me. he has NEVER won anything....not in high school, college and obviously the nfl. now he's fractured the locker room which is never a good thing and his best friend on the team is a sociopath wide receiver who's been on three teams in six years and wore out his welcome in both denver & miami. but cutler's contract will probably keep him around thru 2013. i just want to punch him right in that jerkface of his.
the cubs are just miserable. the empty seats make me smile because "cub fans ALWAYS support them, good or bad" but apparently not this bad. and the fact is ..........they will be WORSE in 2013.
what is wrong with the NHL? how mentally challenged are they? in the past twenty years, there have been FOUR LOCKOUTS or STRIKES, with the last one in 2004-05 costing them an entire season and millions of dollars in lost revenue plus driving the sport into the ground. these selfish pricks have to understand that work stoppages affect everyone from the team trainer to the peanut vendor and i guarantee you those people can't make up the lost revenue. the owners are wayyyyyyyy too powerful and are just sitting back in their big leather chairs with their arms folded waiting for the players to collapse like they did last time.
the CHICAGO BULLS will come out of hibernation shortly and will provide the fans with gritty and ugly basketball but the team won't quit as they wait for the 'juice' that's normally provided by DERRICK ROSE, who won't be around until february. the good news is that #1 draft choice MARQUIS TEAGUE will get valuable minutes that normally wouldn't be available if rose was healthy. the 6'2" guard out of kentucky will have time to make mistakes as he goes thru the learning process the every rookie does in the nba but the errors won't hurt as much because the bulls won't be contenders this season.
enjoy the football this weekend.

BADGERS EXPOSED EARLY
last week, it was the laughable boise state broncos who spit the bit when they finally put a real team on their schedule and this week, the mighty wisconsin badgers also realized how dangerous it is to play REAL teams at the start of the football season.
in the first month of every season, the badgers traditionally schedule teams like the university of las vegas, the citadel, north dakota state and the hadley school for the blind and beat their chests when they're 4-0 heading into their league opener. then they muscle the slow farm boy teams of the mediocre big ten and ALWAYS end up with double digit wins and a nice bowl bid BUT when they meet REAL teams on the bowl circuit, more often than not, they are embarrassed by lesser ranked teams as evidenced by losing 4 of their last 5 bowl games despite being favored in three of the four losses.
FOR YEARS, the university of wisconsin has avoided entering into contracts to play home & home series against traditionally powerful opponents such as LSU, FLORIDA STATE & OKLAHOMA. instead, they signed contracts with DIVISION II teams like north dakota state & northern iowa which only added to the disdain across the nation for the badger football program and that animosity is well deserved. the FRONT PAGE headline in the new orleans paper said it best when the university turned down LSU's offer. "BADGERS OR CHICKENS?"
the new playoff system in 2014 will put an end to their scheduling nonsense and i truly believe that it will also mark the end of wisconsin as a football "power" unless they're content to be totally ignored by the panel who will seed the teams for the playoffs. come to think of it, that wouldn't surprise me at all if the badgers intentionally avoided the championship spotlight and continued to schedule little schools and avoid the potential humiliation of playing REAL teams.
maybe biose state and wisconsin could form a new league.........

LABOR DAY THOUGHTS
the WHITE SOX rolled over and played dead AGAIN and the tigers whipped their butts again. truth be told, we can't handle their hitters and we can't hit their pitching so we need help in order to make the playoffs. 29 games to go AND we get a 4 game rematch with the tigers next week but with a 4-10 season record, it ain't looking good.
i can guarantee you the schedule maker at NOTRE DAME is under fire as the most over-rated program in the history of college football actually has to play FOUR quality teams this season. oh, they still get their patsies like navy, wake forest and boston college but they also have to play OKLAHOMA, USC, MSU and MICHIGAN with three of them on the road. what was that guy thinking???? i drool waiting for the oklahoma & usc games. my friend KEVIN in atlanta is already cringing AND looking for a place to hide.
the SEC is just loaded again. they had 10 wins and only 2 losses (outside the conference) over the weekend and both of those were to top 25 teams. ALABAMA looked awesome in crushing MICHIGAN and played angry the entire game.
i like the BEARS to make the playoffs this year but we all know that good health is the key. BRIAN URLACHER is a bit gimpy but hopefully, they will be able to rest him sporadically and save the knee. the offense will be just fine and look for DEVIN HESTER to get single coverage because of the new wide receivers and that can only spell trouble for opposing defenses. i like an 11-5 season.
RYAN BRAUN is a cheat and we all know that but assuming he's clean this year, he's right back where he was in 2011 when he was juicing. no falloff in production at all. .332, 33 hrs & 111 rbi. this year? .310, 37 & 95 for a team that was really never in contention and lacking PRINCE FIELDER who protected braun in the lineup. is he really clean?
excuse the pun but the NHL is skating on thin ice. fans stayed away in droves after the lost year in 2004-05 and with this economy, they will quickly find other uses for their money if the owners lock out the players on september 15th. wake up, gentlemen! didn't you learn a lesson last time?
and what the hell is the NFL thinking with the referee situation?? after locking them out in june, talks have stalled but here's an interesting fact. ALL of the clubs are worried about the safety and integrity of the game but all it would take to end the lockout is each of the 32 teams kicking in a hundred grand, which is spit to ALL of these teams. TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS BECAUSE IT'S SHOWTIME!!!!

PEOPLE IN THE NEWS
and now the defense takes it's turn in the DREW PETERSON case. they should wrap it up no later than friday and then the jury decides if circumstancial evidence is enough to convict. i still say NG goes on the board.
what is wrong with GOVERNOR PAT QUINN? the state is broke, social services are being shut down and teachers are being laid off because the state can't pay their bills and he kills the bill for new casinos. he says there are a few loopholes he doesn't like. SO FILL THE HOLES! YOU'RE THE DAMN GOVERNOR and you're allowed to write in anything you'd like! in the meantime, kids are going to school hungry because the breakfast programs have been suspended. duh.
do you know that the first american to be honored with a memorial in india was GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER? guess they like peanuts over there.
NEIL ARMSTRONG passed away over the weekend. walking on the moon was hypnotizing even to a derelict like me back in 1969. how long ago was that? gas was 35 cents a gallon and the average house cost $28,000. and the CUBS were in first place. really.
chicago teachers union president KAREN LEWIS has delayed the strike in hopes of reaching a new contract BUT zero progress is being rported. just what the city needs, a half million kids running the streets after labor day.
say a prayer for the people of NEW ORLEANS. it's been 7 years since KATRINA but they're looking down the barrel again.
teenage girl SAVANNAH DIETRICH in georgia is sexually assaulted by three boys while she's drunk and passed out. boys then take photos and send them to their friends. they plead guilty in juvenile court and the victim goes public on the internet, rightfully calling them predators and revealing their names. sounds fair to me but the authorities accused HER of contempt because the names of the boys are protected in juvenile court. she says "they tried to ruin my life. turnabout is fair play." the charges were dropped when the story went national. one of the boys lost a scholarship because of the news. so sad. you go girl.
the republican party has quietly asked SARAH PALIN to avoid interviews between now & november to avoid dragging up the past. palin was a national embarrassment in 2008 when put under the television spotlight.
i'm really aggravated. ROSIE O'DONNELL got married and i wasn't invited.
adios for now.

JUNGLE DRUMS BEATING AGAIN
well, i guess handing out religious literature and organizing more peace marches thru certain neighborhoods didn't help as the animals reared their ugly heads once again and shot FORTY-THREE different people from thursday to sunday and seven of those victims were fatalities.
WANT TO BE A REPORTER? here's a couple of helpful tips:
learn to use the abbreviation 'S.' for south because most of the killings happen there. check the location of the homocide addresses and they almost always have a 'south' in them. the past four days have featured s. st. lawrence, s. ridgeland, s. drexel, s. indiana and s. wallace. are you sensing a pattern? add in stroger hospital and the neighborhoods of kenwood, gresham, englewood, austin, chatham, 4th police district & 6th police district and you pretty well can write your own news stories for the tribune. oh, and you'll need names. rashad, stephin, lucian, tamika, ohmari, fabrique, shantella, dwan, jacquisha and quawi should get you started. and most of the time, spellcheck won't help but it doesn't matter because reading is a lost art in these areas.
the situation is absolutely pathetic. how about we relocate any woman and any of her children under 10 years of age similiar to a witness protection program so the kids at least have a chance. the kids over ten? already too late as they're running drugs for the big boys.
think i'm kidding?? a recent south side (south? what a surprise!) drug raid resulted in the arrest of 5 people packaging drugs in a third floor apartment. the oldest was 13, two were 12 and two were 11. the eleven year old said in his police interview that he was making $300 a week packaging the drugs but thinking he was just telling a story, the police took it with a grain of salt UNTIL they interviewed the twelve year old who stated he got 400 a week because he was there for two years. a search of their bedrooms at home revealed each had over two thousand in cash stashed away. WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU HAD 2K IN CASH? so an uneducated pre-teen ghetto kid is making twenty grand a year (tax free) but he can't read or write so where's he going?? nowhere. he is ghetto bound for life and LOVES IT.
everyone in our family laughed at uncle jack years ago when he said "remove what good ones there are in the neighborhood and then surround it with barbed wire so no one gets in or out. eventually they will kill each other because that's what they do every day. the neighborhood will soon be empty and then you can knock down all the buildings down and start over." not so funny now.
bye for now.

JUST SPORTS
well, the olympics have finally ended and i've found that one thing has held thru as long as i've been around. female gymnasts are the most spoiled & pompous athletes on the planet. pampered by their coaches and parents at a very young age, they're constantly told how good they are but when things go wrong they are ill equipped to handle failure. did you see the face on MCKAYLA MARONEY when she was standing on the podium after being awarded the silver medal?? second best in the entire world and she acts like that in front of the entire world? that's one teenager who needs to her face slapped for being disrespectful. what a bitch.
speaking of spoiled athletes.....as predicted here months ago, boston red sox manager BOBBY VALENTINE is doomed in beantown. the team has played mediocre baseball despite a 173 million dollar payroll and the players have simply turned their back on him. look for him to reach a parting of the ways sooner rather then later because they never fire the players.
LSU superstar TYRANN MATHIEU couldn't stay away from the wacky tabaccy so COACH LES MILES yanked his scholarship and said 'adios' to the junior all-american. "you get one mistake at LSU and there's even a price for that. but you only get one. we wish tyrann well." HOW SURGICAL WAS THAT? fifth in the heisman voting last year and it means nothing when you break your promise to the coach. mathieu was suspended for a game last season for testing positive and signed an agreement when he returned to be substance free. another ghetto punk who thought he could beat the system.
how sweet is it that RYAN DEMPSTER is getting his ass kicked in the american league? there is NO WAY he takes his free agency anywhere but the light hitting national league. giving up 8+ runs a game is making this former cubpud wish he had taken the atlanta deal.
are the nationals really going to shut down STEPHEN STRASBURG for the rest of the season in a couple of weeks? or will we see a doctor step up to the microphone and announce that after a mayo clinic type examination, strasburg is 'good to go' and they'll be monitoring him closely. you don't get a shot at the world series that often and i think they would be foolish to send him home.
it's nice to see ADAM DUNN having a comeback year but it would also be nice to see him punch the ball to left field when they radical shift him. nothing wrong with being on base for KONERKO & RIOS.
the cubs have a shot at 100 losses but 9 games with houston will probably derail that.
who will score more in august? the cubs or the bears? gotta go.

CUBS AGAIN?
my head is starting to really hurt.
the CHICAGO CUBS continue to make the correct moves for a rebuilding team by trading 31 year old utility man JEFF BAKER to the tigers for two players to be named later, presumably minor leaguers. traditionally, the tigers would make up a list of a dozen or so players in the minors and the cubs get to pick any two. they won't be superstars but they will be young.
AND THEN (be still my heart!) the cubs do another thing correctly and call up 3B JOSH VITTERS, 22, & CF BRENT JACKSON, 24 and instantly put jackson in the lineup against the dodgers for his major league debut and voila! he has two hits early in the game. while this is going to be painful for a couple of seasons, these two have been waiting in the minors and quite frankly, the cubs have nothing to lose. find out what the kids can do now.
vitters completes the infield core with RIZZO, BARNEY, CASTRO and VITTERS/VALBUENA. not bad.
JACKSON will play center field and you build around him.
if your name is SHAWN CAMP, 36, DAVID DEJESUS, 33, or ALFONSO SORIANO, 36..............................it's probably not a good time to buy a house in the chicago area.
cubs fans, nothing is going to change for the next two years as the cubs will continue to lose but you're used to that and have been for over a hundred years. doing it the right way takes time but when you mix a bunch of talented kids with just a couple of big time free agents, 2015 could start a lot of fun on the north side.
i need an aspirin. or two.

NOTHING BUT CUBS
better sit down before you read the first paragraph. here goes:
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHICAGO CUBS on their recent trades before the july 31st deadline. despite RYAN DEMPSTER'S attempt to screw them, they got past it and at least got a couple of players from class A in return for the selfish bastard. as a reminder, dempster gave the cubs a list of acceptable teams to which he would accept a trade and then turned down a deal to the ATLANTA BRAVES and went public with his desire to be traded to the LOS ANGELES DODGERS, which of course weakened the cubs' bargaining power. dempster's explanation?" i wasn't ready 'right now' to go to atlanta." WHAT? he knew they were trading him but he wasn't ready 4 days before the deadline? screw him.
THEO EPSTEIN had the last laugh when he sent KING CUBPUD to the american league, where real hitters live on a daily basis. pud was knocked around for 8 runs in 4 innings in his first start thursday night. worst of luck to him and watch how quick he scrambles back to the national league in the off season.
cub fans should remember the name RANDALL DELGADO because that's who atlanta was going to send to wrigley in the trade that the pud turned down. delgado is only 22 but throws five different pitches. we'll see.
congrats on dumping the dope smoking buffet killer GEOVANY SOTO, who seriously weighs 60 pounds more than his .185 batting average. although they just received a couple of minor leaguers, the cubs are wayyyyyyyy ahead on this deal.
REED JOHNSON & PAUL MAHOLM went to atlanta for some more minor leaguers and this is where i hand it to the cubs: they stuck to their guns and got rid of two 35 year olds and two 29 year olds and stocked up on kids as they attempt to rebuild the farm system, especially pitching.
so the CURRENT cubs core looks something like this: ANTHONY RIZZO 23, DARWIN BARNEY 27 and STARLIN CASTRO 22. they need to upgrade third base but LUIS VALBUENA 27 could be valuable because he plays five different positions and every contender needs a good utility player.
the only keepable pitchers are JEFF SAMARDZIJA 27 and and MATT GARZA, who is 29.
the only outfielder worth keeping is TONY CAMPANA 26, who might not be able to play everyday but has world class speed, something unheard of on the north side. the catching position is on life support. BUT that's SEVEN PLAYERS who will be around for a while and that's a start. just 17 more to go but everyone is under 30 so you have time to build.
THE CUBS WILL BE A SERIOUS BALL CLUB IN 2015 AND PLAYOFF CONTENDERS IN 2016.
watch 'em grow.

sports notes
as i feared, the WHITE SOX got their heads handed to them over the weekend and surrendered first place to the tigers, probably for good. the south siders are hitting .228 as a team since the all-star break and a 3-7 road trip has got them reeling. it's probably time to focus on the wild card spots because the tigers look even stronger with their recent trade and althought the tiger defense still blows, they hit the crap out of the baseball.
RYAN DEMPSTER has reportedly become the new CUBPUD with his recent actions regarding vetoing a trade to atlanta. over a month ago, dempster gave the cubs a list of five teams that he would accept a trade to BUT NOW he's trying to manipulate a trade only to the dodgers. before you all start screaming, I KNOW it's his right as a 5/10 player to pick his team but don't tell your team that atlanta is ok and then queer the deal when they've worked on it for a month. CUBPUDITIS is an epidemic indigenous to the north side so don't be suprised if dempster is back with the cubs in 2013.
ICHIRO to the yankees? what does this trade mean long term? absolutely nothing to either team. two minor league right handed pitchers go west and an over the hill (albeit a first ballot hall of famer) outfielder goes east. ichiro is hitting .260 and has zero power but the yankees needed someone to fill in for BRETT GARDNER, who suffered a season ending injury. he'll improve their outfield defense and quite frankly, whatever he gives to the yankees offensively is a bonus. ichiro makes 17 million and is a free agent so unless he lights up the skies in gotham, he'll be shopping for a new team in november.
texas ranger president NOLAN RYAN officially has a case of red ass with regards to JOSH HAMILTON, who is the team's best player. ryan thinks that hamilton gives away at bats by not working the count and swinging at non-strikes (all true, by the way). hamilton is only hitting .202 since june 1st and will be a free agent after the season. contract talks have not gone well and maybe this is ryan's way of saying he's had it 'up to here' and it's time for hamilton to move on down the road. calling out your star publicly is usually a bad sign for the future.
anyone else excited about the bears? this team reminds me of the 1984 team, who started muscling other teams as they grew stronger. like the '84 team, i think they can make giant strides with good health but they're probably a year away from a serious run at the title.
hey, screw all you people who think RON SANTO didn't deserve the hall of fame. it doesn't matter if he didn't play on a world series team because the hall is a place for individuals, not teams. let me guess....next year, you're going to bang the drum for SAMMY SOSA, ROGER CLEMENS and BARRY BONDS? santo might have been abrasive during his playing days and a bit of a jerk but we also know the only substance he was 'juiced' on was insulin.
my, how times have changed at NOTRE DAME. starting qb TOMMY REES pled guilty to resisting arrest and underage drinking stemming from a campus incident in may and is still a member of the team. not too many years ago, the police TELEPHONED the head coach and explained that they had given two starters a ride back to campus following a SHOUTING match at a fraternity house that was located off campus. no arrests were made. both players were dismissed for 'behavior unbecoming to the university.' talk about selling your soul. while no longer relevant in college football, notre dame does lead the league in hypocrisy.
and finally, it's time for the PATERNO family to SHUT UP and go away. "we're going to run our own investigation and clear joe of these scurrilous accusations." PLEASE. the statue is gone, his reputation is gone and joe is gone. now please re-name the library to eliminate his name completely from the campus of PEDOPHILE STATE UNIVERSITY and let the healing begin.

a little bit of everything
what a horrible tragedy in colorado. this is one of those times where there's no chance of mistaken identity or incorrect eyewitness accounts and he should be put to death immediately. no trials, medications, psychiatrists, insanity pleas or reliving this for the victim's family. death by the firing squad....today. his guilt is doubtless. this lowlife needs to be in the ground.
three years ago, a buddy of mine bounced off the walls when i told him after DREW PERTERSON was arrested that he would be acquitted if the case ever went to trial. dirtbag? absolutely. sleazeoid? definitely. narcississtic dickhead? without a doubt. murderer?? PROVE IT! my buddy gave me 7-1 odds on a hundred dollar bill and now it's showtime as the trial is scheduled to begin this week. peterson has been in custody since 2009.
BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. two coroners giving different professional opinions on the manner of death. absolutely no evidence putting peterson at the death scene and a perfectly plausible explanation that KATHLEEN SAVIO slipped & fell in the bathtub and suffered a fatal head injury. no prints, no witnesses, zip forensic eveidence. how do you convict?
another bizarre part of the upcoming trial is that the judge insists on using the jury pool that was selected three years ago. the 200+ person pool was instructed in 2009 not to listen to any news about the case. how in hell do you monitor that for three years? i think that could be an appelate court issue if peterson is found guilty.
PENN STATE UNIVERSITY finally grew a pair and removed the statue of JOE PATERNO, the man who facilitated the sexual abuse of dozens of children by failing to forward information regarding his pedophile assistant coach to the proper authorities. about 150 students gathered at the removal and chanted the rythmic "we are (clap-clap) penn state!"
if i were them, i wouldn't say that too loudly these days.
so now it's LOUIS FARRAKHAN'S turn to try and end the violence in the south & west side neighborhoods. the world leader and well known ANTI-SEMITE took to the streets this week with 500 members from the nation of islam and passed out literature and dvd's to the residents. hey lou, let me clue you in on a couple of things. first, the members of the jungle will simply avoid the area until the cameras disappear. second, do you expect anyone to believe that you're going to keep 500 thugs in the 'hood forever? it's no diffeent than the idea of putting the national guard on the corners of the jungle....the rats disappear until the guardsman leave and then it's business as usual. and finally, how does someone who hates the jewish community as much as you do plan on using peace & love as a platform? the gang bangers don't even know who you are. can't wait for the first showdown between the gangster disciples and farrakhan's thugs. wonder how much peace & love will be displayed then?
some sad notes on the entertainment front. GLEN CAMPBELL has cancelled the final leg of his international tour and the rest of his domestic dates are now in question as well. campbell was diagnosed with alzheimer's last year and was making one final tour but reports indicate that the disease has accelerated and his family decided cancellation would give him a chance to enjoy the rest of the summer and visit with some old friends. so sad. a terrible disease.
i grew up with ANDY GRIFFITH and the first time i saw my father belly laugh at a movie theatre was when he watched griffith in "NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS" when he played army private will stockdale. two years later, he got his own television show in MAYBERRY and the rest is history. clean comedy, great story teller and you NEVER saw his name in anything other than entertainment news. i believe GOMER, OPIE, THELMA LOU & HELEN CRUMP are the only regular surviving characters from the mayberry comedy. at least andy now has barney to make him laugh.
stay cool.

BASEBALL IS ALIVE!
first of all, congratulations to the family of RON SANTO on his induction this weekend into baseball's hall of fame. well deserved. WGN will air a half hour special sunday night at 9:30.
the CUBS are the hottest team in baseball during the month of july but don't line up for playoff tickets just yet. in order to legitimize their rebuilding, they have to trade RYAN DEMPSTER and MATT GARZA to stock their system with young players. don't be surprised if DARWIN BARNEY & BRYAN LAHAIR also say good-bye before july 31st, although lahair's stock has dropped drastically since may. this team will make the playoffs in 2015 and be serious contenders in 2016 if they stay the course and build from within.
the WHITE SOX showed they were serious about this year by making three outstanding moves in the last month to bolster their chances for post season play. the first was trading for KEVIN YOUKILIS, who was an absolute steal and they hope to sign him long term because he's a free agent after this season. the second & third moves was clearing their roster of CUBCRAP in the persons of WILL OHMAN & KOSKE FUKEDOME. ohman was an absolute waste and got worse with each appearance and the only thing he did consistently was eat. fukedome never had a chance as he was still infected with north side losing genes as evidenced by his .171 average. you can get away with that type of performance at wrigley but not in the big leagues. koske is a nice guy and we wish him well.
anyone else notice that GEOVANY SOTO'S waist has totally disappeared?
any chance BRENT LILLIBRIDGE gets resigned by the white sox after being released by boston? if that happens, ORLANDO HUDSON or EDUARDO ESCOBAR will be the odd man out. lillibridge is a valuable utility man and was well liked in that clubhouse.
SUPER SERIES this weekend for the sox in detroit. motown massacre?
if you've been following the off season, you have to be excited about THE CHICAGO BEARS. if they can pick up a safety, i think they'll excite chicago this fall and definitely be playing in january.
gotta run. bye for now.

LET'S BE HONEST
the killing of children continues on what seems to be an almost weekly basis in chicago but it's time for someone to step up and be HONEST about the situation. the headlines read "7 year old girl shot" or "10 year old caught in crossfire" or "5 year old shot playing on porch" and then the story usually relates that gang violence was the reason for the deaths of these innocent children. ENOUGH!
the reason for the deaths of these BLACK children is that BLACK gang members have no respect for human life, including their own, and the BLACK neighborhoods condone the criminal activity until a tragedy occurs. then everyone lights a candle, acts offended and marches in the streets with the local activists until the din quiets down.....and then it all starts again.
TELL IT LIKE IT IS! the BLACK people in these BLACK neighborhoods tolerate the drugs, hookers, dealers, pimps, fights and gun shots rather than inform on these pieces of garbage. almost every time a photo is published in the tribune or video taken for the 10 o'clock news when someone is gunned down, it's all blacks in the background. then the reporter interviews some crackhead who 'didn't see nuttin but i feel bad for the family cause he/she was a nice kid.'
AM I A RACIST? i don't think so. the other 'R' word is realist. these people are animals with limited educations who live by the law of the jungle and the residents refuse to cooperate with the police and refuse to move out of the neighborhood because "it's where i grew up and i'm not letting those criminals force me out." yeah, that's right. raise your children in a neighborhood where gunshots fire daily. they're just as guilty as the shooters when they take that stance.
state represenative LA SHAWN FORD, who is black and lives in the high crime austin neighborhood said it very directly. "That's because there is no law, policy or government intervention that is going to stop these people from killing their neighbors. If we take away the guns, they will use a knife. If we take away the knives, they will use a club............." i think that mr. ford gets it.
i laughed the other day when idiot sun-times columnist STELLA FOSTER wrote that gang members would be inspired if president obama spoke directly to them. WHAT??? i guarantee the closest these thugs ever get to a polling place is when they're stripping the car of a registered voter who's casting his ballot inside the school. they can't read or write and their vocal skills are only understandable to a select few. AND DON'T THINK FOR A MINUTE that this phenomena just started the past couple of years in the black neighborhoods. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR GENERATIONS. welfare, public aid, lack of fathers in the home, 80% dropout rate and a general lack of education guarantee that THE JUNGLE WILL CONTINUE FOREVER.
i welcome your responses.

a solid definition
i was contacted by several people the other day asking for a solid definition of CUBPUD, my new word that i hope in due time will be accepted into the english language. i thought long & hard, determined to issue a definition that would leave nothing to the imagination when suddenly, as if scripted from the heavens, GRANT DePORTER was dropped into my lap.
to those of you who aren't familiar with this smarmy north sider, deporter was born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth and was educated thru private chicago schools and eventually received an ivy league degree at cornell university. i can guarantee you he lost every school yard fight when he wasn't hiding behind his nanny and belonged to the audio-visual club and was president of the stamp collectors.
he wears cub crap all the time and is the boss at harry caray's restaurant (where else?) but he keeps himself in the media spotlight with his free spending habits in an effort to 'break the curse.' (oh grant, have you ever thought about the fact that the cubs just suck?)
in 2004, he bought the famous STEVE BARTMAN (my hero) ball for $113,000.00 and then blew it up. that's right. KA-BOOM. 113k pissed away. did i already mention the silver spoon? how'd that work out with ending the curse?
i think you're getting the picture of a real CUBPUD. just a reminder for all cubpuds: steve bartman was well within his right to try and catch the foul ball because it WASN'T in the field of play). deal with it.
BUT NOW IT GETS BETTER. einstein deporter has come up with a theory that in the 1945 world series, the detroit tigers used 'dead' baseballs to offset the power of the north siders in game 7 and that's why they lost the series. arrrrgh.
hey moron, listen closely. in 1945, they played the last 4 games IN CHICAGO! the hometeam was responsible for supplying the baseballs. did the cubs' own people switch the baseballs?
FYI--the 'dead' baseballs weren't produced after 1931. did the tigers really sit on dozens of dead baseballs for fourteen years waiting for the opportunity to short circuit the cubs? if you even think that's a plausible theory, you never again have to wonder what a cubpud looks like. just glance in the mirror.
DO YOU SEE WHY BASEBALL FANS HATE CUBPUDS? rather than just admitting your players and organization blow big time and gagged away 3 of 4 games in wrigley to lose the 1945 series, (sound familiar?) you submit ridiculous conspiracy theories that most people find laughable.
there is absolutely no evidence save for a cat scan image of a ball that einstein bought for another eight grand that supposedly was the last out in 1945 and it's different than a ball from 2005. no kidding. SIXTY YEARS have passed and who knows where or how that ball was stored and under what conditions? or if little grant was scammed by the seller? by the way, the tigers lost the world series in BOTH 1934 and 1940. guess they forgot the dead baseballs at home.
grant, you are the poster boy for CUBPUDS all over the world.

hey moron, listen closely. in 1945, they played the last 4 games IN CHICAGO! the hometeam was responsible for supplying the baseballs. did the cubs' own people switch the baseballs?

JUST SOME THOUGHTS
the prosecution in the penn state/JERRY SANDUSKY trial (and believe me, the university is on trial too) will rest it's case on friday and then the defense gets it's turn but how do they defend that piece of crap? i think sandusky will be found guilty and sentenced to a hundred years in prison (seriously) which means he dies there. i hope he enjoys it the first time 'big bubba' grabs him in a bear hug from behind and walks him to a secluded corner. remember that about 20% of all male prisoners were abused BEFORE they ever went to jail which means good old jerry should run into some angry inmates.
the trial has also made the future very uncertain for three members of joe paterno's staff who either failed to report witnessing sandusky's sexual assault of a young boy or lied to a grand jury about their knowledge of the incident. may they all be touched by the swift sword of justice with future indictments. oh, and by the way, the hell with JOE PATERNO. may he rot in hell for failing to report the abuse. (reprinted from my sports blog of 6/13/12)
RAHM EMANUEL accomplished a lot during his first year in office but i think he may have stuck his nose in a hornet's nest regarding the teachers in the public school system, of which 90% gave their approval to strike. i think rahm is heading for his first big defeat as mayor. a strike would be very ugly so a settlement should happen before that.
have you seen the show "MOB WIVES"? those women are aging quickly and very scary. i've known a woman for a long time whose dad was in charge of all the porn theatres in the chicago area. eventually, he pissed someone off and ended up staring at the spare tire in a chevy trunk. my friend robyn never did well after that and it's sad watching her trying to still play the part of princess when she has absolutely nothing. old habits die hard.
the luckiest guy on the planet? JOHN EDWARDS, who was acquitted of one charge of financial irregularities with his ill-fated presidential campaign and then saw the government drop the remaining charges. edwards was the sweetheart who found out his wife had terminal cancer but continued his illicit affair, eventually fathering a child with his mistress while his wife was undergoing treatment. as NANCY GRACE likes to say, "the devil is dancing tonight."
the goofiest guy? maybe movie star MEL GIBSON, famous for his racist rants, who thinks the pope is the anti-christ, john lennon deserved to be shot and gibson's ex-girlfriend should be raped and killed. ah, serenity. gibson has many more opinions & thought throughout this e-book, which is available for just three bucks at amazon.com. i'm thinking ....maybe save your money and have a cold beer instead.
stay well.

AN OLD ERA BUT A NEW WORD
my dislike for everything north side reached a new level on tuesday when the wrigley boys made hitting coach rudy jaramillo the fall guy for the disaster known as the 2012 chicago cubs. they gave this guy two hitters and a garbage can full of crap that shouldn't even be in the major leagues and then theo and the staff were surprised when they couldn't hit?????
check out this theo-ism: "Rudy's not to blame for the results," said Epstein, president of baseball operations. "That's something we're all accountable for. We put the roster together. It's probably more on us than it is on him." well, if theo is speaking the truth, shouldn't somebody in the front office get whacked rather than jaramillo? RUDY'S NOT TO BLAME. but he gets fired.
which makes this the perfect time to introduce my new word for everyone associated with the north side, whether it be players, fans, bosses or beer vendors. CUBPUD. and i will gladly award my first use of the word to king theo, who showed he was a major CUBPUD with his handling of jaramillo's termination. just let the man go & announce the change.....don't stand in front of a microphone and say it wasn't his fault when you announce the firing. showed no class. cuppud.
did my heart good on tuesday night to see wrigley not full again and about 20,000 tiger fans in attendance. the rooftops were about 60% and it was a very nice night for baseball; a little cool but that keeps the smell of urine to a minimum. but don't forget they do have bison dogs.
moving along and football related, the prosecution in the penn state/JERRY SANDUSKY trial (and believe me, the university is on trial too) will rest it's case on friday and then the defense gets it's turn but how do they defend that piece of crap? i think sandusky will be found guilty and sentenced to a hundred years in prison (seriously) which means he dies there. i hope he enjoys it the first time 'big bubba' grabs him in a bear hug from behind and walks him to a secluded corner. remember that about 20% of all male prisoners were abused BEFORE they ever went to jail which means good old jerry should run into some angry inmates.

the OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER did as i expected on tuesday night and simply wore down the MIAMI HEAT in the 4th quarter. DEWAYNE WADE & CHRIS BOSH combined for 29 points but they'll need to make that 49 if the heat want to be competitive. LEBRON did his part with 30 points BUT disappeared again in the 4th quarter, scoring only ONE BASKET in the last eight minutes and taking only five shots the entire quarter. the fatigue was obvious.
congratulations to the LOS ANGELES KINGS, who steamrolled every team in the playoffs and captured their first stanley cup on monday night. i'm sure the quiche was flowing into the wee hours. adios for now.

just some thoughts
i think the uncoachable STARLIN CASTRO wants out of chicago if there's not a change in managers. it's pretty well known in baseball circles that castro & manager DALE SVEUM don't see eye to eye on most baseball issues and castro's recent 'lapses' on defense have put the manager in a very difficult position. sveum is a no nonsense manager who has had it up to here with the punk from the dominican republic and he has threatened benching castro if the problems continue but the real problem is that the cubs have advertised the shortstop as 'their future' so does that mean sveum has one foot out the door? stay tuned because as the losing continues, the tempers will get shorter and i can't see sveum backing down when it comes time for discipline.
i think that both sides of town need to shanghai their respective shortstops. the cubs because castro is cast in the same mold as SAMMY SOSA ("hooray for me and the hell with everyone else") and will NEVER be a team player, just like sammy thru the years. remember how that relationship ended?
and the bonehead on the south side, ALEXEI RAMIREZ, was exposed defensively over & over again this weekend and botched not one but two freaking double steals. the shortstop has to be the captain on defense and have his head in the game at ALL times, not just when he feels like it. combine that with his .215 average and he looks like real good trade bait to me.
the WHITE SOX were fun for a while but the wheels are starting to loosen as their starting pitching, once perceived as a strength, is now down to just two guys and they're holding their collective breath that neither gets hurt. DETROIT is still the team to beat in that division but they also have pitching woes so the sox may hang around for a little bit more.
showdown in OKC!!!! the thunder is an even money favorite to capture their first nba championship since moving to oklahoma and wouldn't it be sweet to see LEBRON not win it again? and heat guard DEWAYNE WADE has to be the most unlikeable guy in the league. arrogant & self centered to the enth degree. i want to see him guard russell westbrook. for you trivia buffs...the thunder used to be the SEATTLE SUPERSONICS, who won their only championship in 1979.
the celtics had a nice run but it's time to break them up. three hall of famers only lost one race in their careers....to father time. RAY ALLEN, KEVIN GARNETT & PAUL PIERCE are all first ballot entries but now it's time to rebuild around RAJON RONDO.
updating the guys who used to be here: CARLOS ZAMBRANO is 4-3 and left the game yesterday with a sore back. sound familiar? MARK BUERHLE is 5-5, losing two in a row, then winning 5 in a row and now has dropped his last two. a .500 pitcher. also sound familiar? ARAMIS RAMIREZ is hitting .254 and has struck out 31 times and only walked twice. i KNOW that sounds familiar! and WILL OHMAN has transferred his crap from the north side to the south side and the stench is unbearable. the WORST pitcher in the bullpen with a 5.40 era and the only positive is that as soon as the sox fall out of the race, that fat piece of crap will be released.
a final note: the WNBA is back. that's right, girl's professional basketball is available allllllllllllllllllllllllllll summer long. catch the fever! adios for now.

the memorial weekend update
guy in wrigleyville went out of business over the weekend. seems he opened a store this spring that sold daily 'W' flags and after two months had only sold a dozen or so.
ok, enough frivolity. on to sports as we approach the 1/3 mark of the baseball season, the nfl is having team activities, the nba is down to the semi-finals and hockey starts their big dance this week so let's hand out some awards.
NICK FAIRLEY of the detroit lions wins the "poke the commissioner in the chest" award after being arrested in april for possession of marijuana and then again in may for DUI, fleeing the police, reckless driving and possession of alcohol. upon being booked, he stated, "it's ok, i've got lots of money to take care of this and make it all go away." i'm thinking nfl commissioner roger goodell disagrees.
the current edition of the CHICAGO CUBS is the worst i have seen in my lifetime and i have seen some real bad ones. on pace to lose 108 games, they have maybe 5 players on the current roster that should be playing in the big leagues and the rest is all garbage.
even diehard cub fans, who have very limited knowledge of the game, realize how much they suck and have turned away in droves. at a party over the weekend, i listened to three cub fans talk for maybe two minutes about how bad they are and that they don't waste their time watching or listening anymore. i was about to jump into the conversation when one said 'the cubs never should have traded zambrano.' i had to walk away.
look at the bright side. all the cub crap will be half price very soon to clear out store space for the bears stuff.
how often do you think theo epstein pounds his head on his desk?
hey, the BEARS are 9 point favorites for opening day! just saying.
biggest disappointments of the year in baseball? DETROIT in the american league & MILWAUKEE in the national league.
biggest surprises? the LOS ANGELES DODGERS in the NL & the CHICAGO WHITE SOX in the AL. i picked the sox for last because there was no way that dunn, rios AND peavy were going to rebound. i've never been so happy to be so wrong. adam dunn is a lock for COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
PAUL KONERKO is slamming his way to the door of the hall of fame. book it.
the NHL has a ratings nightmare on their hands this year for the stanley cup finals. a couple of years ago, they had a blockbuster with chicago & philadelphia and set all kinds of ratings records BUT los angeles & new jersey? ouch. a fourth place team vs. a third place team. games in L.A. will start at 5 p.m. their time when people are stuck on the freeways coming home from work. good luck.
the MIAMI HEAT will lose to the western represenatives in the NBA finals. both san antonion & oklahoma city have too much depth and speed.
hey, my great nephew ZAC DEUTSCHER got his first professional hit on sunday for the RIVER CITY RASCALS in the frontier league and followed that up with a double and had a 2-4 night. his team is in first place and have a showdown coming in SCHAUMBURG the second weekend in june.
ok, i'm done. bye for now.

NOTHING but cubs
local emergency rooms were apparently flooded sunday night by cub fans being treated for laryngitis after having white sox shoved down their throats for three days. how do i know this? because on monday, none of the cub fans at my usual haunts wanted to talk about ANYTHING related to the cubs. the silence over the next three years will be a welcome relief from the constant "now it's our turn" sense of entitlement normally droned over and over and over ad nauseum from april thru august every year until the usual fadeout. now it doesn't even get a kickstart. the silence is beautiful.
did you notice all the empty seats at piss park over the weekend? when's the last time you saw an empty seat on the north side for a cubs/sox tilt? sox fans were the majority, by far, ALL WEEKEND and it's obvious that cub fans have already gone into hiding, disappearing into the clark & addison sewers. my buddy at the local jewel-osco says all the cubs crap is just collecting dust and they had already reduced their order 75% over the last two years. how low can it go? i bet we'll find out.
the cubs actually scared me for a while when they played close to .500 for about three weeks but now they are back on track for a HUNDRED LOSSES and as of today, the magic number is 73 and here's where it gets real exciting. if they play at their current clip, with four games left in the season, they'll be 60-98 and will need to win three of their last four to avoid a hundred losses. and the last three are at home. i can hear the north side wailing now. GUARANTEE i will be there wearing my astros hat. october baseball. yessssssssssssssssssssssss!
i personally visited urine field last thursday wearing my phillies hat and, having gone to over a thousand games in my life, i'm pretty good at the attendance game. when they announced the crowd at 38,000 and change, i almost dropped my seven dollar bison burger! TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND MAX was the attendance but that also tells another story. i'm sure they sold 38,000 which means 13,000 fans are not even bothering to show up and it's only mid-may. and it's going to get worse. i would love it if they published the actual turnstile count.
local dealer told me the cost of cocaine is down about 20% in wrigleyville because of the no-shows. see? everybody suffers when the cubs lose.
KERRY WOOD is done pitching. a lot of people (cub fans included) think he stopped pitching two years ago. say that loudly in your local bar and i doubt if an argument will ensue because most cub 'fans' will be watching oprah reruns instead of the game.
my second favorite memory of wood is when he was pitching relief for cleveland and served up two lollipops in the late innings to his buddies on the cubs and then wouldn't talk to the media after the game because he was having a beer with his ex-teammates. oh yeah, kerry, we found out.
but my FAVORITE memory of kerry was october 15, 2003, when he gagged up in game 7 of the NLCS and stopped that north side juggernaut from going to the world series. staked to a 5-3 lead after four innings, wood promptly gave up 4 runs in the next 1 2/3 innings and personally derailed the cubs express. 7 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks on the biggest night of his career but he did get to use the express lane into the cubs' hall of choke.
the ONLY thing that saved him being run out of town on a rail was the cubs fans obsession with the beloved STEVE BARTMAN. i know where steve works and each year he gets a holiday card from me thanking him for his contribution to cubs lore. he holds a special place in my heart.
that's it for now. next time, we'll deal with real sports teams.
FOR WOMEN ONLY
saw 'jersey boys' again over the weekend and it was even better the second time around. they change the troupe approximately every nine months to renew the energy and that plan definitely works. the show is at the bank of america theatre in chicgo which is a spectacular venue for plays & musicals. it ends june 3rd and even if you can't get there this time, make plans to see it when it re-visits chicago. 27 songs from frankie valli & the four seasons make the 2 1/2 hours fly by. a definite 'yes.'
the chicago police department had an impossible task over the weekend but pulled it off with a minimum of complaints. i was amused by the whining done by the 'black bloc' anarchists who physically pushed into the police line and were met with appropriate resistance by the boys in blue. "i can't believe they hit me with their night sticks. all we wanted to do was make a point" said one of the bleeding protesters. i think the cops were also making a point.
just saw a photo of MILEY CYRUS at some awards show. she ain't hannah montana no mo'. wow.
sad to see robin gibb lose his battle to cancer. he was the long haired one with the overbite who held his ear closed while singing his high pitched tenor. the BEE GEES captivated music thru the 70's & 80's and the group was only outsold by ELVIS, THE BEATLES, MICHAEL JACKSON, GARTH BROOKS & PAUL McCARTNEY as a solo. not bad company.
CASEY ANTHONY, the most despised female in america, has been located by supoena servers in florida. anthony, acquitted of murdering her daughter last year, anthony is being sued for defamation of character against ZENAIDA GONZALEZ, who anthony accused of killing her daughter while babysitting her. a couple of small problems for ms. anthony.......she had never met gonzalez and gonzalez doesn't babysit. plus anthony's attorneys admitted under oath that anthony lied about the entire episode. sounds like a good case to me.
just curious on this one. MELISSA BOWERMAN, 41, is married to JON BOWERMAN, 73, who was the co-founder of NIKE. despite their age difference, both volunteer as track coaches at an oregon high school. good so far. melissa decided to escort a 17 year old boy to the prom last week and despite dancing three slow songs, "we're just friends" was her response. after investigating, the high school principal has asked melissa to 'un-volunteer.' no kidding.
bye until next time.
airlines have thought of a new way to screw us. depending on the airline, we pay extra for luggage and we pay extra for aisle seats. now you're going to pay for the privilege of sitting with your travel companion. that's right, if you want to sit with your husband at the time of the booking, it will cost you an extra twenty-five bucks. friendly skies this.
and finally, the female wrapup: HILLARY CLINTON to run again in 2016? look for her to resign as secretary of state after november to circle the wagons. if MITT ROMNEY has half a brain, CONDOLEEZZA RICE will be his pick for vice-president. intelligent, well spoken and experienced in politics, she would bring or at least split the female vote in november and in what looks to be a very tight race, that could be the difference. SARAH PALIN? still trying to remember the names of the three newspapers that she reads 'every day.'

and finally, the female wrapup: HILLARY CLINTON to run again in 2016? look for her to resign as secretary of state after november to circle the wagons. if MITT ROMNEY has half a brain, CONDOLEEZZA RICE will be his pick for vice-president. intelligent, well spoken and experienced in politics, she would bring or at least split the female vote in november and in what looks to be a very tight race, that could be the difference. SARAH PALIN? still trying to remember the names of the three newspapers that she reads 'every day.'

NOTHING BUT CUBS
first of all, let me apologize to all those cub fans who were upset when i predicted they would lose a hundred games in 2012. i was wrong. after watching them for three weeks, i have revised my prediction to 108 losses because this team absolutely sucks and has almost no workable parts but all is not lost for the north side titanic passengers because i have a plan just for you.
the record for the most losses in a single season is a hundred and twenty and while that might be a stretch even for this group of trash, at least it would give cub fans something to root for because otherwise, your season is already over.
THINK ABOUT IT! you sit with a group of friends and cheer every STARLIN CASTRO error (7 already with a possibility of 55 or more!), high five every blown save opportunity by CARLOS MARMOL or other members of the worst bullpen in baseball and chest bump when yet another player goes on the disabled list.
you raise a flag with the letter 'L' after each loss, keep a numeric 'countdown' scoreboard in your man cave and rip another page off with each loss as the cubs rampage towards the record for futility. (ripping the page into little pieces and throwing it up in the air yelling 'whoopee!' is recommended but optional)
AND HERE'S THE BEST PART: it's almost impossible in today's game to lose a hundred and twenty so the cubs will come up short AGAIN and leave all of their fans frustrated and disappointed, which is EXACTLY what you're used to on a yearly basis. cub fans feed on the bile of defeat so the plan is perfect! you cheer them on all year and then the inevitable happens in september and they fall just short of their goal and your spirit is crushed.....again. too good to be true. enjoy the season.

wrap it up
congrats to the new york giants. they are true champions.
the blackhawks are in real trouble unless they make a trade for a high quality defenseman.
the bulls are the second best team in the east, which means miami sends them home early again.
the over/under on the cubs/sox total victories in 2012 is 160. whodayalike?
adam dunn still blows until he proves otherwise. failed to lose a pound in the off season. are you kidding me?
derrick rose is still the best guard in the league but is starting to break down with all the minutes he plays. toe problems, back problems, a bad supporting cast problem. give him a healthy shooting guard and he gets real strong right away. rip hamilton is NOT the answer.
is their a cyclist who doesn't take illegal drugs? alberto conador gets stripped of his 2010 title and floyd landis lost his 2006 tour de france title. which sport is worse? cycling or track & field?
i feel bad for sidney crosby. the best player in hockey can't shake his concussion symptoms and is probably done.
i'm off to mexico. see you in april.

hello ladies
best late night host? that's an easy one. JIMMY FALLON follows jay leno at 11:35 and is by far the most talented late night guy. music, comedy, skits, etc...if he's too late for you, set the dvr and watch the next day. guaranteed laughs.
CRAIG FERGUSON has the best monologue. also at 11:35
RICK SANTORUM, presidential candidate. what is he smoking? his response when asked about an unwanted pregnancy due to rape was 'deal with it'!!!!!!!!! this guy needs a punch in the mouth.
NEWT GINGRICH sounds like a spoiled child every time he gets his brains beat in during a primary. i picture him holding his breath and stomping his feet. i thought he could be president. i was wrong.
MIMI ALFORD says she slept with president kennedy for about a year and a half. so what?
MITT ROMNEY is going to win the republican nomination and because of his non-conservative positions, he has a chance to defeat president obama. he is in favor of abortion when rape or incest has occurred, believes in the death penalty and is opposed to same sex marriage although he supported 'don't ask, don't tell' in the military until it's repeal. he opposes on-line gambling and is strongly in favor of the right to bear arms but opposes possession of military type firearms. bottom line? mitt scares the hell out of conservative republicans and is just moderate enough to attract those voters who are disappointed in president obama.
to be fair, please remember that the recession started under president bush in 2006.
i think i would like to see madonna in concert.
i would also like to see harry connick, jr.
the chicago marathon filled it's quota of 45,000 runners in just 6 days. wow.
go see "the artist" because it's really good.
i'm off to mexico so behave yourself. talk to you in april.

WISCONSIN BITES THE BIG ONE!
an absolutely PERFECT january for all chicago fans with regard to wisconsin sports. first of all, we find out that the milwaukee brewers RYAN BRAUN is a cheating scumbag who gets a 50 game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs during his mvp (?) season. that lovely news is followed by the WISCONSIN BADGERS once again practicing their permanent mantra of too slow, too fat & too stupid while gagging away their second consecutive rose bowl.
but the Pièce de résistance was watching the GREEN BAY SLACKERS rolling over and playing dead while relinquishing their super bowl crown as the giants kicked their asses up & down the field, despite the officials making two calls that defied logic & sensibility. the game could have been 51-10 without the help of the officials. a perfect january so far.
however, to be fair, in a major upset, a young lady from wisconsin did win the MISS AMERICA contest on saturday night. never before had a contestant participated in the formal wear portion of the competition wearing blaze orange bib overalls and an elmer fudd hunting cap with outward ear flaps. she also finished second in the talent portion by shooting 4 of 5 ducks that were released from the balcony.
for those of you that care, the patriots are 7 1/2 point favorites against the ravens next weekend while the 49ers are 1 1/2 point favorites at home against the giants.
i think that CECIL FIELDER has narrowed his choices to two teams; the texas rangers and .................the chicago cubs. i know it sounds ridiculous but the cubs might be able to sell him on the idea of leading this young team into the playoffs within two years and maybe sooner. the division is wide open and fielder is only 27, more than enough time for him to invest in a team rebuilding the right way. the rangers are guaranteed nothing with all the muscle that the california angels have signed.
did you see the unusual pairing coming up at the pebble beach pro-am golf tournament? TIGER WOODS & TIM TEBOW! (please feel free to insert your own joke at this point). what in the world will they talk about? god? i don't think so. marital affairs? nope. sex? not on timmy's agenda. it could be the first pairing ever where the only words spoken are 'hello,' 'nice shot,' & 'nice match.'
JOE PATERNO dug the hole a little deeper in his NBC interview when he stated that he 'didn't know what to do' when he was told of the sexual assault in the shower room. huh? didn't know what to do?????? how about call the police?? moron.
another guy who needs to shut his mouth: golf pro MATT EVERY is also poking the alligator by admitting that most of his everyday friends smoke pot on a regular basis. this coming from a guy who has already served a three month suspension from the tour because of his arrest on drug charges. i guarantee the ultra-conservative PGA commissioner TIM FINCHEM is listening.
it's definitely time for the ncaa to start a 4 team playoff in football which is commonly referred to as "plus 1" because it results in ONE more game for the two finalist. it's not extreme and leaves the door open for one loss teams to still be national champs. this year it would have been LSU/STANFORD & ALABAMA/OKLAHOMA ST in the plus one game.
last year would have brought AUBURN/STANFORD followed by OREGON/TCU which is a pretty good menu of semi-final football. division one has playoffs in EVERYTHING except football. the current agreement with the BCS runs out in two years so the time is now to set it up.
finally, did you hear CARLOS ZAMBRANO stated that he only had problems in chicago the last two years? MICHAEL BARRETT strongly disagrees.
adios

pigskin & rawhide
it wasn't a great game by any means but how tough is the SEC? the two best teams in the country play 8 quarters of football and only one touchdown is scored at the end of game two when the game has been decided. incredible. these two teams averaged FORTY POINTS a game during the regular season except when they played each other. kudos to ALABAMA for winning game #2 and LSU for a remarkable season. co-champs? probably not but it would be justified.
i said it before. when you lose in the first weekend of the nfl playoffs, you probably didn't belong in the first place. i think atlanta, cincinnati, and the lions proved exactly that. the steelers? ben's injury along with the center being out plus the horrible fire that injured their coach two days before the game gives them a pass this year.
i do want to go partners on a lottery ticket with tim tebow.
anyone else tired of WISCONSIN pretending to be a big time football program? i said it last year....TOO FAT, TOO SLOW, TOO STUPID and they proved it again this year in the rose bowl. additionally, they play the weakest non-conference schedule in division 1 (verified by the ncaa) and then whine when they're ignored in the bcs ratings......... but every time they get the chance to walk thru the door nationally, they gag it up.
wisconsin brags about their 325 lb lineman and that works fine in college where they outweigh everyone by 50 pounds but in the nfl, they they're just average size and their lack of real skill soon weeds them out and sends them back to the farm to continue slopping hogs. (not that there's anything wrong with that). enough is enough.
many shook their heads when wisconsin's MONTE BALL announced he was coming back for his senior year rather than leave for the nfl.the questions were loud & clear. how could he turn his back on millions? what does he have to prove? what if he gets hurt? well, here's a few answers for you. ball is projected as a third round draft pick at best and he will become a blocking/power back at the next level IF HE MAKES IT and those guys don't make millions. quite frankly, he has almost no chance to star on sundays but he is a very bright student majoring in sociology with a 3.4 gpa. the perfect decision for him was to get his degree.
anyone noticing that NOTRE DAME is still irrelevant in football? they've lost ten of their last 12 bowl games (although they did win a barn burner against hawaii a couple of years ago) but despite twenty years of mediocrity, they still sell out every game, home and away. i don't get it. don't these people realize knute rockne is dead? and so is irish football.
memo to CUB FANS: before you continue whining about ron santo and his delay in entering the HOF, check the resumes of DAVE PARKER, ALAN TRAMMEL or JACK MORRIS. same routine as santo. absolutely deserve to be voted into the hall but for whatever reason, the voters don't feel it. that's what makes induction into baseball's shrine so special. it doesn't happen to everyone but when it does....CELEBRATE!
mark buerhle, carlos zambrano, ozzie guillen, aaron rowand, hanley ramirez and jose reyes all in the SAME locker room? no chance something doesn't explode.
chicago bears did the right thing in dumping JERRY ANGELO but how many teams don't let their GM pick his own head coach? and lovie gets to take part in the interview process. curious.
MIKE MARTZ is like the nfl's version of larry brown. after a couple of years, he burns a few bridges, has some limited success and then moves on. ego & stubborness is not a good mix in an offensive co-ordinator. it cost him his second super bowl back in saint louis and probably his job here.
the silence is deafening regarding the rape allegation against the uncoachable STARLIN CASTRO. the mandatory denial by his attorney was followed by the short statement from the cubs and that's it.
believe me when i tell you that "investigators are working the case" is not what the cubs or castro wants to hear. is it true that the victim passed a lie detector? watch for castro to be taken into custody as soon as he steps off the plane.
take a kid out of the ghetto, give him a bushel basket full of money and then stand back as he does what he wants, when he wants because that's acceptable in his country when you're a big celebrity. but nobody takes the time to explain the real world to these kids and the potential trouble that awaits them outside the ball park. in the old days, handlers just silenced the victims with a payoff but today, victims want money AND justice.
how loaded are the LOS ANGELES ANGELS? the a.l. west will be fun.
RYAN BRAUN, you're a cheater. take your 50 game suspension and shut up. and if you had any stones, you'd surrender your tainted mvp trophy. don't forget to attend the annual picnic with manny ramirez, mark mcgwire, rafael palmeiro and all the other cheaters who went from 175 lbs. to 230 and back again when they got caught. also say hi to sammy sosa, a-rod, jason giambi and roger clemens. nice company. you suck.

A FEW THOUGHTS FOR THE NEW YEAR
my car dealer buddy tells me the reason americans don't like electric cars is lack of acceleration and the inability to drive long distance. fair enough.
but why don't we use electric school buses? think about it. they run the same routes every day, driving less than 50 miles at a time and lack of acceleration would only add to the safety of the kids on board. we all see school buses parked in the same place every night so those could easily become charging stations.
diesel fuel....buses get around 7 miles per gallon (on a good day)and with diesel around four dollars a gallon, it costs $49 to drive a 50 mile route. cost of electric to drive the same route? about three bucks for a daily savings of forty-six dollars. multiply that by 180 scool days and you save $8000 per bus each year. i know the initial cost of an electric bus would be double that of a diesel burner but the fuel savings would make up the difference in ten years and you would be 'driving green' and eliminate the problems of trying to budget fuel costs in a volatile and unsteady market.
what's the down side?
hey, remember our disabled cop in iowa who had to kennel his service dog because it was part pit bull? well, the feds informed the town fathers that he could have whatever breed he liked and their ordinance violated his federal rights as a disabled person. town fathers blinked first. case closed.
the iowa caucaus ended the run of this year's village idiot, michelle bachman, who will now reside in the sarah palin hall of fame.
rick perry, the governor of texas, took a big hit in iowa and will get crushed in new hampshire next tuesday. the fat lady will be singing for him shortly.
and so it boils down to mitt romney, ron paul, rick santorum and our old buddy, newt gingrich. it appears that gingrich will not survive the constant attacks from paul & romney. look for newt to bow out after the south carolina primary on january 21.
i still think it would be a great idea strategically for president obama to urge VP joe biden to 'retire' and name hillary clinton as his running mate. that move would guarantee his re-election.
have your house up for sale? be careful when potential buyers do a walk through of your home. guy in crown point, indiana, took a $40,000 rolex out of a dresser drawer and never broke stride. good reason to accompany all buyers as the look around.
just heard they arrested 4 people for the murder of the chicago cop working security at a grocery store. they're saying it was a case of mistaken identity and they really meant to kill a DIFFERENT cop. oh, that makes it better.
finally, to help you enjoy the new year, 5,000 artifacts from the titanic are going up for auction on april 11th in new york city. before you get the idea of bidding on a hat or a locket or a ring, please know this: all of the pieces are being sold as ONE LOT and the last appraisal valued the collection at $189 million smackareenos. and by the way......if you buy the lot, you must agree to maintain the items and display them for the public occassionally. hey, it'll give you something to do during the winter.
bye for now.

are the cubs for real?
not a day seems to go by without news from the local teams so let's catch up with all of them.
**********************************************************************
the cubs are starting to convince me that they're serious about a legitimate rebuilding job on the north side. eating CARLOS ZAMBRANO'S ridiculous contract just to move him out of town is one of the smartest player moves in the history of the club. fifteen million is chump change when you're dealing with a billion dollar franchise. the previous administration would have held z's hand and believed his empty promises so he could rise up and embarrass the franchises over and over again.
excising a cancer like zambrano can only help this ball club because if you're truly rebuilding (and it looks like they are), then you can't have zambrano as a 'leader' in the locker room. he is a fat, underachieving, lying piece of crap who has torn the club apart for the last three years and undermined the past two managers. good riddance to bad rubbish.
next on the trading block? MATT GARZA & ALFONSO SORIANO.
but just when things start looking up, the uncoachable STARLIN CASTRO is now wanted for questioning for a sexual assault. innocent until proven guilty is no problem for me but read this rather terse statement from new cubs GM JED HOYER: " the team expects its players to behave with the highest level of respect on the field, off the field and in the community," and added that "being a Cub carries with it a very high standard of conduct and responsibility. " sounds nothing like jim hendry, does it? i think the statement sends a loud & clear message to the current roster: you're a professional--now act like it. gotta love it. they are starting to remind me of the blackhawks when ROCKY WIRTZ took over a couple years ago.

the 'EXIT ONLY' door on the south side continues to spin as CARLOS QUENTIN was given his ticket out of town along with JASON FRASOR this week and when you combine that with the surprising earlier trade of SERGIO SANTOS and the release of four rostered players from last year, the sox are definitely rebuilding. GAVIN FLOYD should be next. ROBIN VENTURA is the 2012 MIKE QUADE.
i pray every night that ADAM DUNN (DONE) & ALEX RIOS have decent years into july so the sox can hornswoggle some other team into taking them for their pennant pushes and the sox can unload 30 million in salary.
even moving one of them would make me smile.
hey! anyone want JAKE PEAVY? the sox' answer to MARK PRIOR.

the blackhawks are contenders again this year BUT they have the dirtiest player in the league in DANIEL CARCILLO, who received his second suspension of the current season the other night when he checked TOM GILBERT of edmonton FROM BEHIND and sent him crashing head first into the boards. carcillo has talent but this is his NINTH disciplinary action and the hawks have to decide if being tough is the same as being dirty. i don't like carcillo's long term chances of staying a blackhawk.

the bulls are the second best team in the league. unfortunately, miami is the best which means the bulls won't see the finals again unless they make improvements at forward and shooting guard. CARLOS BOOZER still can't play defense and he needs to sit during crunch time BUT who takes his place? TAJ GIBSON is very inconsistent so maybe it's time for JIMMY BUTLER, the bulls hard nosed first round pick out of marquette. loves to mix it up and plays solid defense. at the guard position, RIP HAMILTON is injury prone and hasn't played a full season since 2006 and KYLE KORVER appears to be done at the age of 30. his three point shot has disappeared and he is another defensive liability. work those phones.
later, dude.

the cubs are starting to convince me that they're serious about a legitimate rebuilding job on the north side. eating CARLOS ZAMBRANO'S ridiculous contract just to move him out of town is one of the smartest player moves in the history of the club. fifteen million is chump change when you're dealing with a billion dollar franchise. the previous administration would have held z's hand and believed his empty promises so he could rise up and embarrass the franchises over and over again.
excising a cancer like zambrano can only help this ball club because if you're truly rebuilding (and it looks like they are), then you can't have zambrano as a 'leader' in the locker room. he is a fat, underachieving, lying piece of crap who has torn the club apart for the last three years and undermined the past two managers. good riddance to bad rubbish.
