are the cubs for real?

not a day seems to go by without news from the local teams so let's catch up with all of them.
**********************************************************************
the cubs are starting to convince me that they're serious about a legitimate rebuilding job on the north side. eating CARLOS ZAMBRANO'S ridiculous contract just to move him out of town is one of the smartest player moves in the history of the club. fifteen million is chump change when you're dealing with a billion dollar franchise. the previous administration would have held z's hand and believed his empty promises so he could rise up and embarrass the franchises over and over again.

excising a cancer like zambrano can only help this ball club because if you're truly rebuilding (and it looks like they are), then you can't have zambrano as a 'leader' in the locker room. he is a fat, underachieving, lying piece of crap who has torn the club apart for the last three years and undermined the past two managers. good riddance to bad rubbish.

next on the trading block? MATT GARZA & ALFONSO SORIANO.

but just when things start looking up, the uncoachable STARLIN CASTRO is now wanted for questioning for a sexual assault. innocent until proven guilty is no problem for me but read this rather terse statement from new cubs GM JED HOYER: " the team expects its players to behave with the highest level of respect on the field, off the field and in the community," and added that "being a Cub carries with it a very high standard of conduct and responsibility. " sounds nothing like jim hendry, does it? i think the statement sends a loud & clear message to the current roster: you're a professional--now act like it. gotta love it. they are starting to remind me of the blackhawks when ROCKY WIRTZ took over a couple years ago.

the 'EXIT ONLY' door on the south side continues to spin as CARLOS QUENTIN was given his ticket out of town along with JASON FRASOR this week and when you combine that with the surprising earlier trade of SERGIO SANTOS and the release of four rostered players from last year, the sox are definitely rebuilding. GAVIN FLOYD should be next. ROBIN VENTURA is the 2012 MIKE QUADE.

i pray every night that ADAM DUNN (DONE) & ALEX RIOS have decent years into july so the sox can hornswoggle some other team into taking them for their pennant pushes and the sox can unload 30 million in salary.

even moving one of them would make me smile.

hey! anyone want JAKE PEAVY? the sox' answer to MARK PRIOR.

the blackhawks are contenders again this year BUT they have the dirtiest player in the league in DANIEL CARCILLO, who received his second suspension of the current season the other night when he checked TOM GILBERT of edmonton FROM BEHIND and sent him crashing head first into the boards. carcillo has talent but this is his NINTH disciplinary action and the hawks have to decide if being tough is the same as being dirty. i don't like carcillo's long term chances of staying a blackhawk.

the bulls are the second best team in the league. unfortunately, miami is the best which means the bulls won't see the finals again unless they make improvements at forward and shooting guard. CARLOS BOOZER still can't play defense and he needs to sit during crunch time BUT who takes his place? TAJ GIBSON is very inconsistent so maybe it's time for JIMMY BUTLER, the bulls hard nosed first round pick out of marquette. loves to mix it up and plays solid defense. at the guard position, RIP HAMILTON is injury prone and hasn't played a full season since 2006 and KYLE KORVER appears to be done at the age of 30. his three point shot has disappeared and he is another defensive liability. work those phones.

later, dude.
