in 1984, a 10-6 CHICAGO BEARS team beat the redskins 23-19 in the first round of the playoffs before they got their asses handed to them by the 49ers 23-0.
in 1985, the bears went 15-1 before shutting out both the giants and the rams in the playoffs before dominating the patriots in the super bowl 46-10.

in 2015, the CUBS beat the PIRATES in the wild card game and then the CARDINALS 3 games to 1 before getting their asses handed to them when the METS swept them out of the playoffs in four straight.
