SPORTS!!!

OK, I admit it. Due to the shutdown of most sports, i have become a golf whore, pure and simple. Don't believe me? The opening rounds are televised on the golf channel and I have the start times fastened to the side of my refrigerator so I'm in front of channel 199 for 4 1/2 hours EVERY Thursday afternoon.

The excitement of watching JOEL DAHMEN (who?) compete against the big boys in an effort to qualify for the weekend can't be matched by soccer matches from Spain on ESPN or re-runs of the 2009 NHL all-star game on NBC Sports.

Friday brings even more excitement as players scramble to make the cut (dahlgren just made it this week at +3, the final slot) and Tiger needed two birdies and a 7 foot putt for par on the last three to avoid heading to the airport.

AND I GOT TO SEE BRYSON DECHAMBEAU make a freaking 10 on the 15th hole! I could honestly say that I was as good as he was on that hole when he hit three in a row out of bounds in the same place each time. BTW, his meltdown is what got tiger into the weekend because it skewed the cut line.

I want everyone to know that i exercise regularly with frequent walks to the kitchen and the bathroom in order to stay in covid shape but thanks for your concerns!!

HEY! It was either golf or freaking NASCAR!

BASEBALL, BASEBALL, BASEBALL!!! AT LAST!!! I know that it's a warped schedule but for 60 days, it gives us something to watch on tv, as long as it doesn't interfere with golf. As nephew Mark says, "Million dollar athletes playing games they don't care about." I'm afraid he's correct but it's better than the Korean league.

On the other side of the fence, you might as well say goodbye to college football for 2020 as yet another league shut down it's season. The Ivy League was first and they were followed yesterday by the COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. Now I realize that none of us ever watch those two leagues  (maybe the harvard-yale game) but i'm looking at it like the little snow ball that's rolled off the top of the mountain and gets bigger & bigger & bigger.

As i wrote some time ago, it's different than the NFL because mom & dad are involved in the decision and i don't think you can convince most of them that football can be made safe unless they teach the players to hold their breath for 60 minutes.

Amigo Nick thinks the NFL will play no matter what because of the almighty dollar associated with the TV rights. He might be right but we all know they're going to eventually cancel the preseason which would put opening day about 54 days away. Do you think the virus will be gone by then?

Training camp opens in ten days and the union wants the players to be tested everyday to insure their safety and i don't blame them. But they're going to need an on-site testing center at every stadium that can produce daily results. Needless to say, the owners don't like that idea.

Here's one for the books. I took a pass on a poker game recently because of the virus situation. Where have you been and who have you been in contact with? Is everyone going to wear a mask? How do we handle the cards? Do we wear gloves and sanitize them every hand? I hate this.

Some good news for the future.....Great nephew LITTLE JIMMY has taken an interest in computer poker. I say withdraw him from school now and get a poker tutor for him and get him into the family games. It beats playing class mates for lunch money.

Gotta run. Golf starts in twenty minutes!!  5.5 hours today.

Stay cool and wear a mask if you go off your property and COVER BOTH YOUR NOSE AND YOUR MOUTH. Adios for now.
