letter to the white sox

MR. JERRY REINSDORF
CHICAGO WHITE SOX

Dear Jerry,

Well, it took a while but you have finally broken me. my friend pete, who is an admitted fair weather fan, bailed on this team after only two weeks of the season but i, being a diehard, knew it would get better with a little patience................ but i was dead wrong.

this version of the white sox is an embarrassment to even occasional baseball fans and IT'S YOUR FAULT. Being loyal is an admirable quality but being loyal to a fault has brought this team to it's knees with no hope of recovery anytime soon.

You took a chance when you hired robin ventura four years ago. With no managing experience at any level, it was a calculated risk but YOUR experiment has been a failure and
for whatever reason, you either can't or won't recognize that fact and until you do, the downward spiral will continue. it's time for a changing of the guard and it needs to happen sooner rather than later because this season is already lost and you need to set a foundation for next year.

Since his first year managing ozzie's players to an 85-77 record in 2012, ventura has won just 42% of his games. now i don't care where you work, if you fail 58% of the time you are shown the door in rapid fashion. HOW CAN YOU LET THIS CONTINUE? he obviously can't manage and has made numerous mistakes well documented by the local media not to mention his inability to handle a bullpen which was magnified last year by his season long love affair with ronald belisario, who appeared in sixty-two games despite having the HIGHEST E.R.A. in the bullpen. everyone was screaming for his head but robin kept running him out there. absolutely no excuse for that but somehow, it doesn't seem to affect his employment status.

Or how about keeping tyler flowers as your starting catcher? a career average of .216 and last time i checked, he had only thrown out 2 of 31 base stealers.  this is the best you have? flowers is 30 years old.  do you think he's going to wake up one day soon and become johnny bench?  MAKE A CHANGE NOW!

YOU ARE WASTING CAREERS. chris sale, jose abreu and avasail garcia deserve better and so do the fans but apparently you're too busy staring at the baseball konerko gave you from the final out of the world series.....TEN YEARS AGO. How sad is this? attendance has declined for seven consecutive years and although winter sales this past off-season will result in 1.9 million in ticket sales, the only category you'll lead is 'no shows.'  who wants to watch a rudderless ship bobbing in the water?

I guarantee you that the real fans would loudly approve on field personnel changes RIGHT NOW. this roster has had 65 games to show their stuff and there's ten players on it who have failed miserably.  bite the bullet and start moving some pieces. bring in people who can catch the ball and we'll worry about the offense as we go.  too many holes to fill so at least play defense and let the other teams earn their wins.

With all of this in mind, effective today, UNTIL ROBIN VENTURA IS TERMINATED, i become a casual fan rather than a diehard. i will no longer watch 14o games every season and plan my summer evenings around the sox tv schedule. i'll switch to the MLB channel and get a glimpse of teams with owners who pay attention and stay competitive. i know a lot of my friends who read this will just think i'm blowing steam but this is the real deal.
IF YOU DON'T CARE, NEITHER DO I.

Good luck in the future.
