ALL SORTS OF GOOD STUFF

ADAM DUNN, the only player i know who has ever been booed at SOXFEST in january was finally run out of town in exchange for a minor league pitcher. dunn absolutely SUCKED during his 4 seasons in chicago and made 56 million dollars doing it. now he says he's going to retire at the end of the season? hey jerkwad, take a good look at your stats.  you apparently retired 4 years ago.

and a fond farewell to ALEJANDRO DE AZA, who may be the worst baserunner in major league history which fits right in with his lack of baseball intelligence.  makes a great catch and then throws to the wrong base.  drops a ball and still throws to the wrong base. steals second and then gets picked off.....TWICE in the same game.  aloha

STUPID coaching must be hereditary for the WISCONSIN BADGERS who were dominating LSU and MELVIN GORDON had 139 yards in just 13 carries for the badgers just after halftime.  time for RUN, MELVIN, RUN correct?  nope.

gordon gets the ball just three more times the rest of the game and LSU wins 28-24.   and here's the best part.  badger coach GARY ANDERSEN says gordon was injured at halftime. gordon says "not true.  did i look like i was injured when i ran for 63 yards at the start of the third quarter?"
problems in cheeseland.

i see where the academic scandal has reached out and grabbed yet another irish football player for cheating, bringing the total to five. well, at least it's not fighting with a cop or dui.

and i can't forget notre dame football, who started the season off with another patsy and beat RICE, 48-17. i CAN'T WAIT until they bump heads with STANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA & USC. oh, did i forget to mention defending national champion FLORIDA STATE in talahassee?? let's see how they handle MICHIGAN this week.

hey cub fans....you might want to invest in a heavy coat for next season becaus all of those strikeouts are going to make it very breezy at wrigley.

ok, get out yor wallets.  the BEARS are 20-1 to win the super bowl and the packers are 10-1. seahawks 6-1. WHOYAGOT?

KUDOS to NFL COMMISIONER ROGER GOODELL for the new set of standards regarding violence of any kind for any employee of the NFL. six game minimum suspension.

and now it's PUT UP OR SHUT UP for NFL COMMISH ROGER GOODELL. 49er defensive lineman RAY McDONALD was arrested sunday morning for felony domestic violence which should bring him a six game suspension under goodell's new edict.

HOWEVER, the plot thickens for mcdonald because apparently the victim is pregnant and the new rules allow for more suspension time if the victim is pregnant...........  i think mcdonald picked the wrong week to get arrested and goodell really gets to pound his chest with this one.  look for a minimum suspension of ten games.

remember my little story about the little leaguers from JACKIE ROBINSON WEST? well, the sadness begins as it was revealed this week that one of the players has been staying at a cousin's house since May because he's homeless due to mom & dad getting reduced hours at work.  exactly why i hope they enjoyed their summer in the sun.

DERRICK ROSE says his knee is fine. do you believe him?

bears open against BUFFALO on sunday and win 31-21.

packers open in seattle on thursday night and lose 24-19.

bye for now.

KUDOS to the kids from the JACKIE ROBINSON LITTLE LEAGUE on the south side of chicago, who won the UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP on saturday before falling to SOUTH KOREA in the sunday title game. let's hope they go on to be upstanding citizens.

but if they stay in that neighborhood, the sad reality is that two of them will be shot sometime during the next five years, six of them will drop out of high school and four will father children while still a teenager. ELEVEN of them will be the victim of a crime and seven of them will be in the criminal justice system before they turn seventeen.

mom & dad, you can change their futures. you can't win the battle long term because the gangbangers will just keep on shooting until they hit someone. this week it was a nine year old & a ten year old in seperate incidents. is your kid next? GET OUT of the south side.

i made a visit to WRIGLEY FIELD on saturday and the day turned into a near disaster when the rains came. HOW DOES HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER ROGER BAIRD KEEP HIS JOB? first, the fiasco on tuesday against the giants and the cubs still haven't figured out which lie to use for that. too much overtime? lack of personnel? tarp was rolled up incorrectly?  (sounds like all three of those would be in roger's domain) .................and then saturday's  folly.

i will say the grounds crew DID get the tarp down in time on saturday BUT then they had to stand on the edge of the tarp like human sandbags & lightning rods in a driving rainstorm for about 5 minutes until someone found a couple of sandbags to hold the tarp down.  woefully inadequate.

on a serious note, the driving rain forced the fans to retreat under the roof. after about twenty minutes of monsoon, we decided to call it a day and headed down to the main concourse to exit the building. GRIDLOCK! thousands of people on the ground floor unable to move.  ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE for public safety or any type of rescue unit to get into the building because there was just no room to move in the archaic and crumbling stadium.

FYI---there are but three exits from wrigley field....right field foul pole, left field foul pole and behind home plate. if someone had a health issue and went down, they would have been trampled. or died on the spot.  it took us 25 minutes to move from third base to the home plate exit. better soaked outside than dead inside.

if you see something large bobbing in the waters of lake michigan and barely staying afloat, it's probably the white sox so DON'T throw them a life preserver.  some things are better off dying and ending the misery.   NINETEEN LOSSES in august (with a week to go) and losers of six in a row AND thirteen of their last seventeen. and they're averaging 2 runs a game in those 13 losses.  good thing the players haven't quit on robin ventura.

well, the BEARS wasted no time cleaning house after that debacle in seattle on friday night.  THIRTEEN players got whacked including CARSON PALMER, ADRIAN WILSON and NATE COLLINS. twenty five more players get cut this week including three on tuesday.

THE CHICAGO SKY failed to close out their playoff series, losing 92-83 AT HOME and now must travel to atlanta for the deciding game on tuesday night.

adios for now.

CHICAGO SPORTS REVIEW

THE CHICAGO BEARS.....If you were one of the many chicagoans who jumped all over the over/under las vegas total wins bet for the bears at 8.5, i would strongly suggest that you take a part time job now to cover the cost of your LOSING ticket. the bears are absolutely terrible and will struggle to win 8 games, let alone 9.

absolutely no defense, special teams that suck and a quarterback who has never won anything at any level of football including high school and has a strong propensity to throw interceptions in the red zone.

the bears got their asses handed to them in the first half friday night by the WORLD CHAMPION SEATTLE SEAHAWKS, 31-0, and learned that there's a huge difference between mid-level teams (like the bears) and upper echelon teams like the world champion seahawks. pray for 8-8.

THE CHICAGO CUBS are on fire! their record for august is 12 wins and only 10 losses.  when's the last time the cubs had a chance at a winning record for ANY month? and half of their august win total comes from beating playoff teams like the dodgers, brewers and giants twice each! kudos!

THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX are in free fall.  losers of 11 of their last 15 and only scoring a total of 20 runs in the eleven losses.  two players continue to work, ALEXIE RAMIREZ & JOSE ABREU, who has stated publicly that "he plays to win and is not used to losing."  do you think management might pay attention to their $66 million dollar player? friday night, abreu jacks a three run homer in the first and that was it for the night as the yankees beat them in the bottom of the ninth, 4-3.

THE CHICAGO BULLS.......i don't know about you but i'm more than a little concerned about DERRICK ROSE'S knees. friday night, he didn't start and only played 13 minutes while scoring 6 points and handing out 4 assists. you never know what to believe when he sits out.  he says he's fine but the media reports his knees are hurting.  we'll find out the first couple of times rose has scheduled back-to-back games during the regular season.

THE CHICAGO SKY.......upset the ATLANTA DREAM in atlanta friday night 70-66 to take a 1-0 lead in the best of 3 playoffs in the WNBA.  the ladies play sunday night at 6:00 in the ALLSTATE ARENA in rosemont.  tickets for that game sell for as low as twenty bucks. FYI.....the sky have never won a playoff series in their nine years in the league. YOU CAN BE PART OF HISTORY!  for twenty bucks, why not?

memo to all: draft wisely for fantasy football.

that's it for now.

AND NOW THE WHITE SOX.....

before i give you my evaluation of the team, just a couple more paragraphs about the manager.

With einstein at the helm, it's like rooting for the titanic. you know it's going to sink but you don't know when..........but it's awfully close. after mismanaging the pitchers and specifically the bullpen ALL SEASON LONG, ROBIN VENTURA has doomed the WHITE SOX into playing the rest of this season with their heads down.

ANYONE can manage when things are good but the true test is when you hit the dog days and you've fallen out of contention. can you still get your team to play hard??  the sad part for white sox fans is that RICK RENTERIA has his guys playing all 9 innings most days. ALL.....NINE.........INNINGS. they don't have a lot of talent but they keep digging.

still an outside  contender for a wild card entering august, TEN LOSSES IN FOURTEEN GAMES has sealed the deal and in those ten losses, they've scored a grand total of 17 runs.   still think the team hasn't quit on him?  they're going thru the motions like they did last year and when they fall behind, just like last year, the game is over. disgusting.

the white sox arethe oldest team in the american league but the departures of PAUL KONERKO, ADAM DUNN & RONALD BELLISARIO will save them over a hundred years.

but the sox do have some light at the end of the tunnel for next year with JOSE ABREU, ALEXIE RAMIREZ & CONOR GILLASPIE sitting up well in the infield but second base is a huge offensive problem.

the outfield will be much better next year with a healthy AVASAIL GARCIA playing the entire season in right field and ADAM EATON is fine in center. but DE AZA, VICIEDO and LEURY GARCIA all have either offensive or defensive problems but they will probably have to keep one of them.  the other two will look just fine wearing a different uniform.

pitching is weak with only CHRIS SALE & JOSE QUINTANA showing any consistency but even they look they've quit recently.  they throw hard for 6 innings but they know they won't get any run support or that the bullpen will once again dump gasoline on the fire. HECTOR NOESI is a washout, JOHN DANKS is done and SCOTT CARROLL is the poster child for 'journeyman.' rookie CARLOS RODON will get his feet wet in september and look for him to be the 3rd starter next year.

the bullpen, if healthy, can hold it's own with ZACH PUTNAM, JAKE PETRICIA & MATT LINDSTROM but the rest you can send on long vacations.

catching is also a huge problem. TYLER FLOWERS is a good defensive backstop but you need way more offensively from your catcher.

and then there's the manager...............

CUBS REPORT

the ONE advantage of having a knee replacement is that you get to watch a LOT of baseball and now it's time to give some honest evaluation of our chicago teams.

THE CUBS are much better than i thought they'd be and actually have a couple of players on the team that will help them in the future. ANTHONY RIZZO & STARLIN CASTRO anchor the core although i still believe that castro is trade bait because of ADDISON RUSSELL, who was obtained in the trade with oakland. castro could also be made into an outfielder but i think the cubs will use him to get pitching.

CHRIS COUGHLAN has been a pleasant surprise in left field and he appears to be over the injury jinx that bothered him since winning rookie of the year a few seasons ago with the marlins.

and believe it or not, a couple of pitchers have appeared on the north side! KYLE HENDRICKS & JAKE ARRIETA have had strong seasons although arrieta, at 28, might be too old to fit into their master plan.  hendricks is just 24 and has a sparkling e.r.a. under 1.75.

in the bullpen, HECTOR RONDON has been nothing less than spectacular with 49 relief appearances and a 4 to 1 strikeout/walk ratio while saving 18 of 22 opportunities for a team that didn't need a closer very often. very nice season.

so now where do you go?  JUSTIN RUGGIANO & EMILIO BONAFACIO are nice role players but ruggiano is already 32 and emilio turns 30 this year so they're goners.  i'm not sold on JAVIER BAEZ just yet because 200 strikeouts doesn't excite me at all (see ADAM DUNN). when they don't put the ball in play, they become dead weight.

wanted: 2 outfielders, a third basemen & a catcher plus 4 non-starters on the bench.  found: KRIS BRYANT at third, ALBERTO ALMORA & JORGE SOLER in the outfield and suddenly you might have a team.  they're young and they're going to make a lot of mistakes and they still need a lot of pitching but maybe, just maybe......

think about it

FERGUSON, MISSOURI

For the last week, the black population in FERGUSON, MISSOURI has been ripping up their own neighborhoods in 'protest' of MICHAEL BROWN being shot by the police.

having a law enforcement background as i do sometimes makes it difficult for me to to be open minded about civil unrest so i called a black friend of mine to get his reaction.

now i'm not going to give you his name or profession but i will tell you that he's a college graduate and came from a very poor background in the western suburbs of chicago.

and i quote: "when you act like a nigger, you're going to get treated like a nigger. who do these animals think they're kidding when they loot the local stores that provide jobs for blacks and then burn them down?  they aren't protesting michael brown, they're just reverting to the ghetto way of taking what's available.

they're just thieves & thugs and do far more harm than good to the black community plus now it will be months before those retail outlets re-open, if at all. every one of the looters and curfew breakers should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  as a black man, i'm certainly concerned over the facts of the shooting but i'm horrified that blacks still have a criminal mentality and take advantage of tragic circumstances. i'm afraid it will never change."

continuing with a creepy week, how about the 18 year old daughter & her 21 year old boyfriend from OAK PARK who were vactioning with her mom in bali & stuffed mom into a suitcase after beating her to death over who was going to pay the hotel bill. FYI---the police have been called to the oak park home 86 TIMES in ten years for domestic violence situations.  oh yeah, the daughter is 2 months pregnant.

remember when your kid brought home candy bars from school to sell & raise money for the choir? well, that looks like a thing of the past as 'healthier choices' are going to eliminate candy, pizza slices in the lunch room and other sugary treats that we normally saw in machines.

a sad farewell to ROBIN WILLIAMS & LAUREN BACALL. godspeed.

politics: BRUCE RAUNER has about a 6% lead on PAT QUINN for governor but it's only august.  quinn is like a phoenix and has risen from the ashes several times in political races.

chicago teacher's union president KAREN LEWIS is still "50-50" about running against RAHM EMMANUEL for mayor of chicago.  lewis, who has often stated she's "common folk," recently revealed that she owns 3 homes, including one in hawaii.  how common is that?

how about JACKIE ROBINSON WEST LITTLE LEAGUE going to the world series in WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA?? first time in 33 years for a chicago team. they won thursday but got hammered sunday and will play in the loser's bracket monday night. "win & stay in or lose and go home." kudos to those young men.

the ebola outbreak in africa has taken over 1200 lives and the count continues. women are at risk because they are the main caregivers in that nation.  the experimental drug just arrived saturday.  now let's see who gets it.

ON A HAPPIER NOTE, DON LEVIN, the owner of the CHICAGO WOLVES hockey team has donated TWO MILLION DOLLARS to chicago animal care so they can improve their facilities and provide 'top quality care' to the many dogs and cats they service on a daily basis. his donation will be combined with 6.2 million taxpayer dollars.

if i were a gangbanger in chicago, i would start looking over my shoulder because the feds have arrived.  there was a time
back in the late 80's & early 90's when you couldn't walk in TIMES SQUARE in NEW YORK without being mugged so MAYOR RUDY GUILIANI brought in federal prosecutors and absolutely hammered the gang members in new york city and reduced the crime rate by 65% and the homicide rate by 80%. today, new york is a joy to visit.

"you can't beat them on the street corners because we don't have enough cops but they can't beat us in the court rooms. we just have to make sure they go away for a long time."
GUILIANI had the prosecutors use FEDERAL RICO STATUTES to send away gang members for life, just as they had done to members of the mafia. the shootings IN CHICAGO continue so let's get rid of the shooters.

these criminals are low life street thugs with no education who probably learned from their parents how to make a buck on the street.  it's time for the bleeding heart liberals to take a step backwards and let the criminals pay the price for their deeds.  NO, THEY CAN'T BE SAVED OR REHABILITATED BECAUSE THEY ARE ANIMALS so you can cut that whining right now.  send them to prison for a long time and protect the decent people in the neighborhoods.

bye for now.

JUST SPORTSSTUFF

Well, the fighting irish are at it again. the cheating bastards are now involved in a full blown academic scandal in which 4 football players have been accused of turning in work done by others.

athletic director JACK SWARBRICK, who is as slimy as they come, stated emphatically that the players "are not suspended" but when questioned further by the media, he admitted that they're not allowed to practice, play or enter the athletic areas of the university.  doesn't that sound like a suspension to you?

notre dame, who has been irrelevant in college football for twenty years, has been embroiled in questionable activities since the LOU HOLTZ era and has become an embarrassment to the NCAA and that governing body can no longer protect them like they did for decades. drunks, burglars, reckless endangerment, fighting with police officers, sexual assaults and now this. perhaps it's time for the irish to shut down the football program until they clean it up.

any guesses as to how many football players will end up involved with this round of academic cheating?

why do the cubs hang on to EDWIN JACKSON? he's absolutely terrible as a starting pitcher and at the age of 31, he's certainly not going to be around when the cubs get good. the cubs have shanghied EVERYONE over the age of 25 so why not jackson?  give some kid a chance.

manny ramirez? hitting .220 in the minors.  yeah, he's helping the young players a lot.

the cubs this year have shipped out the following players, all of whom were over the age of 25: BRETT JACKSON, DARWIN BARNEY, JEFF SAMARDJIA, JASON HAMMEL, NATE SCHIERHOLTZ,EMILIO BONAFACIO & JAMES RUSSELL,just to name a few. as previously mentioned; if you're over 25, you better rent and not buy.  WHY DO THEY KEEP JACKSON???

the BEARS look bad. vegas has them at 8.5 wins and everyone is pounding the 'over'.....be careful my friends. vegas is not in the habit of giving away free money.

that play made by GORDON BECKHAM the other night is being touted on ESPN as the best over the last ten years. you gotta watch it.

the SKY qualified for the playoffs.  who?

WHITE SOX ANGST

EINSTEIN STRIKES AGAIN!! robin ventura sends in RONALD BELLISARIO in a 1-1 seventh inning game and he promptly gives up three straight hits and effectively ends the game as the giants score SEVEN FREAKIN TIMES. this is bellasario's SEVENTH BLOWN SAVE.  bye freakin bye.

before you email me, yes i know that einstein had been kicked out of the game a batter before bellasario came in but don't think for a minute that managers don't continue to pull the strings from the club house while watching on tv.

as previously stated, bellasario has been a total waste since june and EVERYONE wonders just what kind of photographs he has of einstein or reinsdorf.  this guy is not a major league pitcher.  they dumped ERIC SURKAMP on sunday as they should have but why is this dufus still on the team?? let me help..."designated for assignment"

on a lighter note, i watch a LOT of baseball and on tuesday night,  i saw one of the five greatest plays i've ever seen by an infielder in major league baseball. with the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the ninth, GORDON BECKHAM dove for a hot grounder heading into right center field, gloved it and while totally prone, flipped the ball BACKHANDED using only his glove to make the toss and the sox turned a double play to save the game. we see the shovel toss used all the time but this is the absolute opposite. if you get a chance to watch a video or u-tube, it will take about ten seconds. just outstanding.

if you've noticed a strong breeze in the area of wrigley field recently, it's because the cubs struck out FIFTY TIMES in just 4 games over the weekend and only drew 2 walks. call TYLER FLOWERS and get the number of his opthamologist. can't hurt.

the CHICAGO BULLS released their schedule and they take on the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS on halloween night. let's see who scares who. the bulls also take on the LOS ANGELES LAKERS on christmas night. ho ho ho.

gotta take a white sox aspirin. bye for now.

CHICAGO BASEBALL STUFF

uh-oh. did i just see the newest wunderkind of the chicago cubs head to the locker room after striking out in the 10th inning.....WHILE THE GAME WAS STILL IN PROGRESS????

JAVIER BAEZ had a tough day in his wrigley field debut. after driving in a run with a single in the 1st inning, baez proceeded to strike out swinging four consecutive times including the aforementioned 10th inning whiff. WGN-TV then clearly showed him heading to the locker room while teaammate ANTHONY RIZZO was at the plate in a 4-3 loss.

is this yet ANOTHER north sider who only cares about himself? (see sammy sosa and starlin castro)

manny ramirez?

is it possible that village idiot ROBIN VENTURA is starting to understand that it's ok to send guys back to the minors when they repeatedly fail at the big league level?? in the last 4 days, the WHITE SOX have handed bus tickets to two pitchers who were getting the crap beat out of them on a regular basis, ANDRE RIENZO & TAYLOR THOMPSON.

think ventura is a little slow?? 26 year old ANDRE RIENZO pitched in 27 innings since june 1st and gave up FORTY SEVEN RUNS!!!! after being moved to the bullpen on 6/25, he's pitched 6 1/3 innings and given up eleven runs. gee, do you think we should send him down?  DUH.

the 27 year old THOMPSON & his 10.13 e.r.a. was sent down on sunday.  why mention the ages?? because the white sox have the OLDEST TEAM in the american league and when the 'veterans' fail, ship them out and GET YOUNGER.
the end of the season will bring the departures of rocking chair candidates PAUL KONERKO (class act), ADAM DUNN (miserable failure) and ALEJANDRO DE AZA, perhaps the worst base runner in sox history.  combine that with the 4 pitchers list above & below and we can keep the medicare man away for a while.

and please print two more bus tickets for 27 year old ERIC SURKAMP (7.71 e.r.a.) and the worst reliever in the league, 32 year old RONALD BELLISARIO and his 6.23.  i was told way back in little league that you can lose with anyone and that holds true today.  give some  minor leaguers a chance. i don't think they can do too much worse than these clowns.

it's been a long time since i've seen anyone hit the fence as hard as ADAM EATON did on wednesday. the concerns of the white sox brass for his long term well being are legit because his 'devil be damned' attitude is reminiscent of AARON ROWAND, who took 5 years off his career by constantly eating fences. great for ESPN but bad for your body.

and one more thing about mr. baez: exposed jewelry in MLB irritates me to begin with but this hot dog wears a 25 inch chain with a crucifix attached. when he runs the bases, the damn thing swings like a weapon in medival days. i hope someone tells him he's not dancing in a disco and has him either tuck it under his t-shirt or take it off while he's on the field.  what a jerk wad.

it's all fun & games until someone loses an eye! (remember that from grammar school?)

adios for now

ADIOS RONALD BELLASARIO

There is always a sadness connected with the end of career but not this time. i would like to be the first to help RONALD BELLISARIO out of town by offering him a ride to the airport, although the bus depot would be more appropriate.  the 32 year old journeyman has given me and numerous WHITE SOX fans major bouts of anxiety & angst since the start of the year and IT'S TIME TO SAY GOOD-BYE!

bellisario put the candles on his exit cake over the weekend with virtuoso performances on both saturday & sunday. he faced eight batters combined and gave up seven hits & seven runs. a veteran bullpen guy is supposed to put out fires, not throw gas on them. the sox should have suspected something when the historically pitching-rich dodgers just let him go after appearing in 77 games last year and we had no competition in signing him as a free agent.
it's been nice, ronald.

while we're on the south side, isn't also time to say good-bye to ERIC SURKAMP, another do nothing with an e.r.a. over 10+?? i know he's their only left hander but there HAS TO BE SOMEONE working hard in the minors.

and how about sitting down GORDON BECKHAM? you couldn't trade him a week ago so bring up MICAH JOHNSON from AAA and let's take a look. he's hitting .277 and playing nice defense.

REALITY CHECK: you're not winning anything this year and no, you're not going to win a wild card spot either so let's take a look at the youngsters. they might also fail but they've earned a look. the other guys have already had their opportunities.  and failed miserably.
