a few weeks back, i tried to educate cub fans that new owner tom ricketts was all about making money and pointed out that he had already chopped about 30 million off the payroll. ricketts recently followed that early purge with an emphatic financial statement by turning his back on hall of famer ryne sandberg and hiring career minor leaguer mike quade as the team manager. why? sandberg would have taken big dollars and a five year contract to take over the cubs while quade probably settled for twelve dollars an hour. dollars, dollars, dollars. ricketts knows this team will be terrible (90 losses next two years) so why pay an icon? smart business.
the bears are the WORST 4-2 team in the history of the NFL and i will stick by my prediction of 8-8. HA! you say? check their last 4 games of the season. patriots, vikings, jets and packers. good night, irene.
the blackhawks are off and running in defense of their stanley cup and still have the best nucleus in the NHL but it will all boil down the to third & fourth lines.
the NFL reaction to helmet-to-helmet hits is long overdue BUT they need to temper this 'automatic' suspension policy which starts this week. when you are running full tilt towards an opponent and explode for the tackle, the slightest change of direction by the ball carrier can result in a helmet striking first and there is NO WAY for the tackler to change direction in a micro-second. the NFL needs to review each incident and assess fines and suspensions accordingly.
how great is it that brett favre, that walking piece of drek, has finally been caught in a noose in which he can't escape? i have said for years this guy deserves a beatdown but in his defense, at least he didn't step to the podium and cry "i'm innocent" and then be exposed (pardon the phrase selection) at a later date. his 'no comment' stand is the right one for him and the situation. the guillotine swings slowly but the commissioner will have no choice but to whack him. (again, excuse the verbage)
get ready for the bulls explosion as they head towards ALMOST 50 wins. it will take a little time to get the rotation in order but they should score a lot of running points and be fun to watch. women will love kyle korver.
some guy from the chicago fire soccer team is retiring after a long, productive career.................... name him.................. me neither.
