Ok, it's time stir the pot and muddy the waters with my near perfect mid-season baseball predictions. This particular blog always gets the most reaction so let's hit it!
THE CUBS will win their division. WHAT???!!!??? yes, it's true because they have too much talent and that division really sucks. the brewers strong bullpen is starting to waver and can JOSH HADER pitch every day? the cardinals need a monster second half from goldschmidt and a healthy molina to contend. pirates & reds will fade but with bright futures. i picked the cubs to win 88 games and if they do that..............
The other two division winners are/should be the LOS ANGELES DODGERS and the ATLANTA BRAVES, who are starting to flex their muscles in the NL east and look to be in line for a few division titles in a row.
the phillies are learning all about the definition of "OVERPAYING" as BRYCE HARPER chugs along with a .253 average with 16 home runs and 62 rbi's.
just to put it in perspective, ANTHONY RIZZO's numbers are .272/16/58, a gold glove and makes a whole lot LESS money. the fun part is that the phillies signed pretty boy to THIRTEEN FREAKING YEARS!
and in case you're wondering, the other overpaid mutt who is now playing for san diego isn't doing any better. MANNY MACHADO is .266/20/58 and is also signed for a generation. ouch to both.
so fill out the NL playoffs with the WASHINGTON NATIONALS and THE COLORADO ROCKIES as wild cards with the dodgers advancing to the big show in october.

the beat goes on.....
Mayor elect LORI LIGHTFOOT learned a lesson over the holiday weekend when, despite 1500 extra police officers being on duty, the members of the concrete jungle went crazy and shot 68 of their own but continued with their bad marksmanship by only killing six.
YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE JUNGLE!
Take the sobbing mother of seven who mourns the loss of one of her brood for the tv cameras and cries out against the violence, a quick background check on her reveals that she grew up in the hood, ran with the gangs, has an arrest record and is known to NEVER CO-OPERATE WITH THE POLICE when violence happens in her neighborhood.
I said it before and now once again: These uneducated people live by a violent code, one whose credos are "survival of the fittest" and "snitches get stitches" so the general population won't help the investigations which leaves criminals on the street forever (until they get whacked by an up & comer).
I feel sorry for police superintendent EDDIE JOHNSON, who is a fine officer and a good administrator and an even better human being but he won't survive lightfoot's term and he'll soon announce his retirement so she can bring in her "hand picked" person.
and that person will also fail if the priority is to tame the jungle.

No, not the obnoxious and poorly behaved women's soccer team but rather, for the first time, girls 11-17 were allowed to march with the boy scouts in the annual 4th of july parades. Since February, 20,000 girls have signed up to be members of SCOUTS BSA, formerly know as simply boy scouts. it's not co-ed and the females have their own troops (2500 new ones this year) but it's a start and have you heard a peep about the girls being allowed to join? neither have i.

and sincere CONGRATS to the U.S. women's team for winning the gold. they've established a dynasty over the last twenty years and are the gold standard in the sport. but their behavior? ugh. the ironic part is that most of them don't like donald trump but then they act like him by dogging the teams they've defeated. bring back old school, where you win the game, shake their hands and shut up.

newest way to ruin your summer? rent an electronic scooter from the city of chicago. In the first two weeks, just 6 city hospitals reported 21 injuries and four of those needed surgery. i hate this idea because with potholes and people wearing ear buds and crazy traffic, it's a recipe for disaster. i vote no.

and RIP to a long time friend of mine who passed away on saturday after a long fight with cancer. HELEN TODD was 92 years old and the mother of JAN TODD LOSSON, my friend from the police department. Helen was always very nice to me (and everyone else for that matter) and could talk your ear off when you visited her house and we constantly laughed about that because her late husband LEON rarely said a word but you couldn't meet two nicer people. Godspeed, Helen and say hello to Leon for me.

THE FAT LADY IS WARMING UP
Picture one of those modern buildings where you can stand on the sidewalk and see the elevators as they activate. You look up and see two of them in motion and one is slowly moving up while the other is heading downward. And with that, you have the entire story of chicago baseball as the WHITE SOX continue to climb for the future while the CUBS have become.......the cubs.
It's pretty obvious that the six million dollar man, aka JOE MADDON, will out of a job at the end of the season and spends his days mentally flipping off THEO EPSTEIN, who gave a long radio interview on saturday and had several chances to endorse maddon for the future but failed to do so and avoided the question about a contract extension like the answer was radioactive.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if maddon was relieved of his duties before the end of the year. The cubs don't catch the ball, they run the bases like tee-ballers and are the worst team in baseball when it comes to getting hits with runners in scoring position and when you fail in the fundamental categories, that's on the manager.
i think Maddon sealed his fate in Pittsburgh this past week when he left catcher WILLSON CONTRERAS in right field in the ninth inning rather than switching him to first base and letting GOLD GLOVE ANTHONY RIZZO play right field.
if you can walk and chew gum, you can play first base for a few innings. now you may not dig a bad throw out of the dirt but normal throws by an infielder would be certain outs. yes, contreras made a great throw the previous inning to get a runner at home but late in the game, you field your best defensive team and maddon failed to do that. it's time for joe to start packing and let bench coach BRANDON HYDE finish out the year.

And while we're pointing fingers, epstein should get thumped right in the middle of his forehead for his player acquisitions like EDWIN JACKSON, YU DARVISH, MIKE MONTGOMERY and JASON HEYWARD, (although having a good 2019.....but 23 million a year? yikes).
my personal favorite, the JOSE QUINTANA trade which brought the WHITE SOX ELOY JIMENEZ & DYLAN CEASE and two others which effectively emptied the cubs farm system and left them bobbing in the water.
The cubs have needed a second baseman and a leadoff man since DEXTER FOWLER left in 2017 but neither maddon or epstein could recognize what was right at the end of the bench for three years.....TOMMY LA STELLA. or should i say 2019 ALL STAR STARTING SECOND BASEMAN TOMMY LA STELLA, who is currently hitting .300 in the leadoff spot for the angels and has 16 homers and 44 rbi's. and they gave him away for nothing.
maybe it's also time for theo to start looking for future employment.

The cubs are an aging, slow team that can't play defense. this team looks like they're just going thru the motions and the only factor saving them this year is that the entire central division has turned to crap but at least cub fans are finally realizing that the "DYNASTY" is over.
This weekend saw the city series end in a draw at 2-2 which is making cub fans even crazier especially when the guy they used to have in their system beats them twice in lass than a month. i promise you there's more of that to come.
hope they don't get stiff necks watching that south side elevator.......

IS THE SHIP SINKING?
I am constantly amazed with the similarities between the early 70's white house of RICHARD NIXON and the current mess of the trump administration. Lies, finger pointing, more lies, broken promises and a savage relationship with the media along with the constant departure of appointees. (rats leaving the sinking ship?).
DOZENS of appointees have departed the trump white house in two years and i believe the one today makes it 45.

The most recent one to say adios is incompetent buffoon SARA HUCKABEE SANDERS, the THIRD press secretary to depart in 2 1/2 years and so bad at her job that she was removed from daily press contact about six months ago.
Sanders (lose the huckabee and quit riding daddy's coat tails) staunchly defended the president but she was constantly chewed up by a grizzled white house press corp who sensed a weakness in her ability to verbally joust and attacked like sharks in bloody water. She was caught in several lies and always appeared to act like a spoiled little girl stomping her feet and holding her breath when the press continued to push on a particular issue.

Let's move on to presidential counselor KELLYANNE CONWAY, whose termination was recommended by the OFFICE OF SPECIAL COUNSEL for repeatedly violating the HATCH ACT, which prevents government employees from using their tax-funded positions to advocate partisan political beliefs. in other words, keep your mouth shut while you're on the clock. HOWEVER, there is ZERO CHANCE she gets whacked because the guy in charge of dumping her is the man with the funny hair so it will never happen.

What the hell is going on in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC? seven tourists have died under strange circumstances the last two months and now the FBI is investigating three of the deaths. needless to say, the DR department of tourism is trying to calm fears but 4 people dying after drinking out of the mini-bar in their rooms suggests perhaps a serial killer who is tainting the alcohol. can't wait for the autopsy results.

SHOWTIME!
GAME SEVEN. The two words that gets your pulse racing and peaks your anticipation like no other sporting event and TONIGHT, whether you follow hockey or not, tune in to watch the ST. LOUIS BLUES travel to take on the BOSTON BRUINS and one team will be taking home the oldest trophy in professional sports, the STANLEY CUP. These teams don't like each other and the previous six games has been full of hard hits, cheap shots, nasty play and suspensions. MUST SEE TV ON NBC TONIGHT!
and by the way, the BEARS are already listed as 4 point favorites.

Did the CUBS buy themselves a division title with the 43 million dollars they spent to get CRAIG KIMBREL as their closer? the answer is...... maybe....... because this team is deeply flawed with a lack of depth, a serious lack of intensity and joe maddon. and you have to get to the 9th inning WITH the lead in order to make use of a good closer or you've wasted a lot of money. the cub "dynasty" never happened and their window of opportunity is closing rapidly.

Now if you want to watch a young, exciting team, simply travel eight miles south from wrigley. unlike the north siders, they're not spoiled or lackadaisical nor do they have a sense of entitlement. the WHITE SOX are fun to watch and hit the bejesus out of the baseball and you can see the improvement week by week. good times on the south side are here and only going to get better.

CUBS VS SOX MATCH-UPS
This is always the blog that always creates a lot of bitching & moaning from various fans but i think the majority of that will be coming from the north side as the rebuilding worm turns slowly on the south side but has produced some surprising results. Let's get to the match-ups:
1B ANTHONY RIZZO but barely. if abreu's average was
higher.................
2B YOLMER SANCHEZ about even in hitting with russell
and he doesn't beat his wife.
SS TIM ANDERSON (let the howling begin) he's a better hitter than baez and has the same amount of rbi with less power, proving he's a great clutch hitter.
3B YOAN MONCADA don't even start with me. .295-.270,
12-13 hr and 39-36 rbi and a MUCH better fielder than pretty boy kris. with a K.
C JAMES McCAAN better hitter and better catcher and far less mustard on him.
LF KYLE SCHWARBER for now...........
CF LEURY GARCIA almora is a great defender but couldn't
hit your sister's pitching. garcia a steady .280 and also a
great defender.

I hate to start off with them again but the CATHOLIC CHURCH continues to slap the world in the face and treat us like village idiots with ridiculous 'new rules' that will do nothing to end the underground railroad of pedophilia.
the pope issues a new rule: if a priest or nun learn of a violation, they must report it to their superior..........sounds good but shouldn't they have been doing that all along??? and isn't their superior the head of their parish, who is probably a pedophile himself? but there's more to the new rule........priests are NOT REQUIRED to reveal anything heard in the confessional and THE BEST IS COMING......priests or nuns ARE NOT REQUIRED TO CONTACT THE POLICE. i'm serious, i did not make this up.
so let's just keep everything in house and we'll work it out among ourselves. sound familiar? what changed?
