HE BLINKED
In one of the most expensive stare downs in political history, donald trump blinked first. that loud mouthed obnoxious blowhard freaking blinked first!
little donnie reacted as expected by huffing & puffing and saying that he would just find someplace else to give his address, like the white house or the senate or maybe at a rally.
AND THEN HE BLINKED AGAIN!!!! he conceded pelosi's idea is a good one and he'll wait until the shutdown is over.
**********************
With his presidency crumbling and his approval rating sinking like the titanic, little donnie blinked earlier this week and offered three years of additional protection for DACA children in return for 5.7 billion dollars. when asked if this would include permanent amnesty for those kids, little donnie said no and then so did Nancy Pelosi. nice try but extortion and blackmail are sniffed out quickly during a showdown over the shutdown.
************************
Then pelosi sent little donnie a letter saying that there would be no STATE OF THE UNION address until the shutdown is over and he could not use the house of representatives to deliver the speech because the shutdown has caused security concerns with the layoffs.little donnie reacted as expected by huffing & puffing and saying that he would just find someplace else to give his address, like the white house or the senate or maybe at a rally.
AND THEN HE BLINKED AGAIN!!!! he conceded pelosi's idea is a good one and he'll wait until the shutdown is over.
************************
Now TODAY, the senate tried to pass a bill ending the shutdown which included the billions for the wall. the proposal was shot down like a duck during november hunting season.
NOW READ THIS ONE CLOSELY....to counter that move, the democrats put their bill on the floor to open the government with no mention of little donnie's billions and of course, it didn't pass BUT SIX REPUBLICANS CROSSED THE AISLE AND VOTED YES. i'm thinking those six want to be re-elected.
***********************
so the trumpty-dumties are also blinking
and we move on to day 35 with 60% of the nation blaming the shutdown on little donnie. stay tuned.

THINGS I DON'T SEE OR HEAR ANYMORE
just walking down memory lane and remembering things i don't see or hear anymore............AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD SOMETHING FOR A FUTURE COLUMN, JUST LMK
Remember when you would see those postage stamp machines hanging on the wall? you could be at the hardware store or the local A & P and buy a small amount of stamps to mail your letter and they came out pressed between two small pieces of cardboard.
writing a letter
ladies day at the ball park
writing a thank you note
kids playing marbles in the dirt outside where you drew the inner circle with your finger
a man gassing your car and checking your oil and washing your windshield
Men automatically removing their hats at a restaurant
kids used to stay with their parents (within a few feet anyway) when they went to the store and MAYBE, if you asked real nice, you got permission to look at all the new baseball gloves in the sporting goods section.......and you better still be there when dad showed up.
When is the last time you took a bus? i used to take three buses BY MYSELF to go to a baseball game. now i won't even get on a bus.
a family playing cards
the local barber shop being closed on sunday & monday
meat not being sold after 6 p.m.
a man opening the car door for a woman
a newsboy knocking on your door, collecting for that week of delivery
EVERY store being closed on thanksgiving or christmas.
penny candy.
block parties
home mail delivery twice a day
tinsel on a christmas tree
When's the last time someone held a door for you at the store or the quick mart or 7-11?
the good humor ice cream guy....in his white truck
When's the last time a teenager held out his hand when introduced to someone for the first time? if i had answered "hey" instead of shaking hands.......ouch.
bubble lights on a christmas tree
neighborhood kids playing a pick-up game of baseball in the summertime
kids riding bicycles
a newsstand at a busy city intersection that had all the city papers and magazines
live music at the local bowling alley lounge
yelling out the window at that newsstand guy and he would run the tribune over to your car
kids trading baseball cards
baseball cards in the spokes of your bike
Does anyone go near the school playground or ball fields in the summer?
When's the last time a family, the entire family, sat down for a non-holiday dinner?
people having dinner without looking at their phones
softball teams wearing complete and matching uniforms
a kid knocking on your door asking to shovel your walk
corner mail boxes every two blocks
kids banging pots & pans on their front porch at midnight on new year's eve
guys wearing suits or sport coats at a wake or funeral
guys hanging out at a neighbor's garage on a saturday afternoon watching their buddy change the oil on his car and killing a case of beer
ok, that's enough to get you talking and remembering. send me your thoughts

MORE TRASH
HOW NEAT IS THAT? THE PRESIDENT OBVIOUSLY READS MY BLOG because today he DARED the american people to impeach him. ok, sounds like a plan to me.
more fodder: GEORGIA REPUBLICAN SENATOR JOHNNY ISAKSON has urged the air traffic controllers and the tsa agents to go on strike and that will force the end of the shutdown. the problem is, senator, that it's illegal for government workers to strike and the penalty is loss of employment. DUH.
The pettiness of the white house came in full bloom this week when little donnie told NANCY PELOSI that she couldn't use the official plane to go abroad and it was suggested she fly commercial. the problem is, little donnie, that since 911, the speaker of the house is not allowed to fly commercial because she's second in line for your job and she's to be protected just like you when flying. DUH AGAIN.
and then the schoolyard bully showed everyone how 'tough' he is by letting his wife use the SAME PLANE to fly to florida and she had no political agenda at all. no class or dignity in the oval office.
i guarantee if he was in the schoolyard at recess, he would get punched in the mouth everyday.
finally, little donnie still claims that the american people are behind him but recent polls say something else. THE RASMUSSEN POLL, long favoring republicans, couldn't even get him a 50/50 split in the most recent poll. 55% of americans disapprove of the job performance of the president and going deeper into the poll, 47% STRONGLY disapprove of his job performance while only 31% strongly approve. little donnie is whistling past the graveyard.
654 days until 11/3/2020. election day. just sayin............

AS SERIOUS AS IT GETS
I rail at politicians all the time and most of them deserve what they get by being either stupid or greedy. i have no sympathy for the alderman who gets caught taking a bribe from a land developer or a building inspector who gets busted padding his wallet with a 'donation' from the construction company and don't even get me started on the governors from illinois.
But dealing with a sitting president is much different because the nation elected him and the normal mindset is that after his term, we just vote him out of office and say good riddance to bad rubbish. but this time it's different.
Certainly the worst president in history, he has worked very hard at dividing this country and increasing that chasm to a divide never seen before.
donald trump is a liar, plain & simple, who cares little for middle class americans, especially minorities and women and he constantly feeds inflammatory statements to the public, even when they contradict his own previous statements.
THE SHUTDOWN "ONLY" AFFECTS 800,000 according to little donnie but the shutdown is very similar to a snowball rolling downhill....read on:
1) 40% of the FDA inspectors are laid off, jeopardizing the food we buy on a daily basis.
2) THE COAST GUARD is not going to be paid.
3) air travel is a mess. the pilot's association says safe travel is at risk because of a lack of TSA agents.
4) the washington dc metra system is losing $400,000 a day from a lack of ridership and has starting laying people off.
5) the public utility that supplies water to all government agencies won't receive their FIVE MILLION DOLLAR quarterly payment.
6) THIRTY MILLION AMERICANS receive some type of food assistance and that money dries up in february.
and finally, a sightless man in chicago has lost his job located in the federal building because the deli in which he works relies heavily on foot traffic during the government work day.
and all little donnie does is shrug his shoulders and says, "give me the money for my wall and the suffering stops." that sounds just . hitler, sadaam hussein, joseph stalin, ho chi minh and even idi amin. 'my way or you suffer the consequences.'
***********************************
DONALD TRUMP has shown a complete disregard for the health and well being of millions of everyday Americans, so there is no other choice for the people at this point but to remove him from office, whether it be by impeachment, indictment or immediate arrest. his game playing is crushing america and it has to stop.

STUFF I THINK I'M SURE OF.........
I get the feeling that little donnie is feeling the pressure with the newest FBI investigation into his contacts with russia but he continues to lash out at everyone and deny everything but just like the playground bully, i have a very strong feeling that eventually he'll get his clock cleaned.
The shutdown has now reached record status and little donnie is solely responsible for the stress and agony of the 800,000 people he put out of work, not mention the domino affect the shutdown has placed on local economies because almost a million people can't shop or buy clothes or put gas in their car, affecting local owners who normally provide those services.
And i just heard that food stamps will be cut off after the february allotment is distributed to the recipients. nice.
question: when trump had both the house & senate in his pocket for two years, why didn't he get his 5 billion dollars then? he KNEW the democrats were going to take over the house last november and they had made their positions very clear regarding the wall so why didn't he move before the mid-terms? did he actually think he was going to bully the democrats into giving up the billions and ignore more pressing matters?

an incredible ending to that double murder in wisconsin when that brave teenager escaped her captor after being kidnapped three months ago. JAYME KLOSS, you're a brave young lady and i hope your recovery is as smooth as possible under the circumstances. the very odd part is that the murderer/kidnapper had no prior association with the family. stay tuned.
********************************
The federal indictment of long time chicago alderman EDWARD BURKE has thrown the mayoral race into a frenzy. front runner TONI PRECKWINKLE is doing the michael jackson backward moon walk after accepting $110,000 from burke, who held a fund raiser for her at his house and then she refused to answer any questions about how burke's son received a lucrative county job from preckwinkle. check your toes, toni, because i think you just shot your own foot. when burke's son was questioned about his qualifications for the job, he promptly resigned and refused to answer any questions. ah, chicago politics.

50 years ago this week, JOHNNY CASH recorded an album at folsum prison in california and the album was a monster hit.

40 years ago this week on 1/14/79, chicago got hit with 35" of snow over three days, which paralyzed city and suburbs for 10 days and cost chicago mayor michael bilandic his job in the april primaries when he ordered plows to bypass streets in predominately black neighborhoods. JAYNE BYRNE beat BILANDIC in the april election by a slim margin and he was done in chicago politics but 5 years later, he was elected to the illinois appelate court and later to the illinois supreme court.

HOW ABOUT THIS WINTER WEATHER? we went 45 days without a snow storm before getting 3" this weekend. think about this...... only 67 days until spring. yessssssssssss.

a little bit of everything
Under major scrutiny as the current underground railroad for pedophile priests, the catholic church, under orders from the pope himself, had hundreds of priest gather for a retreat in Mundelein BUT sexual abuse or any discussion thereof, was not on the agenda. NOT ON THE AGENDA.
a quick catch up on recent developments: in august, a grand jury DOCUMENTED bishops and other church leaders in pennsylvania covering up sexual abuse of children by HUNDREDS of priests over the last 70 years.
in october, the pope ordered the retreat for the bishops so they could pray and reflect. (praying that they don't get arrested)
finally, in december, illinois attorney general LISA MADIGAN released a report that revealed 690 accusations in illinois but the church has decided to only reveal 185 of the perverts to the general public.
how do we solve this problem? with prayer and self-reflection. ugh.
************************************************
The high wire act continues at the white house where little donnie has decided that building a wall at the mexican border is now a national emergency.
now little donnie, let me help you out on what IS a national emergency: opioids, crumbling infrastructure, nutrition for kids, education, lack of a strong military, lack of doctors & nurses, inadequate hospitals and health care. why don't you work on those emergencies first?
the democrats will continue to offer up an IMMEDIATE back to work budget (that doesn't include the wall) and the prez will continue to veto it, keeping almost a million workers at home and some of the more basic effects will follow: longer airport delays, trashed national parks & monuments, families unable to pay for educating their kids because there's no money for tuition or even a hot lunch because the parents are laid off. and if you take the time to think about it, the domino effect of the shutdown keeps getting worse and worse.
i wrote it the other day and little donnie knows that it's true: he has to fold his current poker hand because his bluff isn't working and there's no way in hell he EVER gets 5 billion from the democrats so this "national emergency" smokescreen is his last gasp. and he is almost guaranteed to be challenged in court on what constitutes a national emergency.
JUST CURIOUS....when he realizes the money will never be in the budget AND THEN declares his national emergency to get funding for the wall, will he then end the shutdown while the courts decide because the budget then has nothing to do with his wall?
oh, to be a fly on the wall....................
have a great day!
