If you have the time tomorrow, please stop and pick up a 'get well' card for donald trump because he got his ass kicked TWICE on Monday by separate government groups.

A little background on ass kicking #1. the trump administration petitioned the UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT to rule that the 1964 civil rights act did not apply to LBGTQ people because the legislators at that time were only discussing blacks and other minorities. As everyone knows, donald trump is a confirmed and avowed racist and along with that, has a major distaste to members of the gay community.

However, led by trump appointee Neil Gorsuch, (you gotta love this part) the very conservative court voted 6-3 AGAINST the petition of the trump administration and indeed, included the LBGTQ community in the protection of the civil rights umbrella. Can you imagine trump's face when he heard that both gorsuch and CHIEF JUDGE JOHN ROBERTS voted against him??

And while still holding his crotch, trump got ass kicking #2 when he then received the news that the FEDERAL DRUG ADMINISTRATION had ruled that hydrochloraquine is "ineffective against covid-19" and they removed their previous ruling that hospitals could try the drug on an emergency basis per trump's request. trump responded with a smarmy response of "Well, i don't know. All i know is that i used it for two weeks and felt fine. (now read this closely) I don't know if it did any good but i'm still here." it should be noted that at no time has trump ever been diagnosed as having covid-19 and to this day, no one knows why he tried it for two weeks other than he's an idiot.

One more trump note: little donnie says he's not going to watch soccer or the NFL if they choose to kneel for the national anthem. Well, orange man, i have news for you. I don't think you're going to be watching too many sports at all because NASCAR is already kneeling, as will the NBA, MLB and the NHL according to their respective representatives. So grab a handful of comic books and head back down to the bunker.

Moving along, I truly do understand the protests and peaceful marches but when a guy is shot in the Wendy's parking lot, why do they burn down the restaurant? It makes no sense and people who are far away look at the television reports and mutter, "animals" and DON'T YOU DARE YELL RACISM when that happens. You cause that reaction.

22 states now have elevated virus numbers and the virus has finally re-attacked GEORGIA, which thought they had escaped the virus when they opened wide a few weeks ago and now their numbers have escalated. 700 new cases daily and 75+ deaths every day. 

Will Wisconsin, who also opened everything up a month ago, suffer the same fate?

Florida, where trump wants his convention, is reporting 2,000 new cases every day. 

And you have to love trump's upcoming rally in Tulsa, where you can attend but you have to sign a release that you won't hold trump responsible if you get the virus. HE KNOWS IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN and just wants to cover his ass.

AN INCREDIBLE TWO WEEKS

AN INCREDIBLE TWO WEEKS

wow.

A single word to describe the events of the last two weeks and it's not a good wow.

Never in my lifetime have i seen such an avalanche of emotion and terror and head shaking actions that actually made me shut the television off for five days only to find it had gotten worse over the long weekend and spread all over the world.

GEORGE FLOYD'S death was a tragedy and as i said in my last blog, officer DEREK CHAUVIN deserved to be charged and sent to prison because at any level, his actions were unacceptable when dealing with a man who was already restrained by handcuffs.

But today, i want to discuss officer THOMAS LANE, the officer seen in the video holding the ankle area of the victim, who apparently had started kicking when they tried to put him in the squad car. Thomas, 37, was in his FOURTH DAY on the job and his training officer was none other than derek chauvin. Lane had been a cadet for one year prior.

and now back in time.........

When I was a rookie on the force, I had a training officer who was a complete dick BUT he held my future in his hands because ONE bad report could send me down the road and every rookie knows that. ass kissing? check. go in for his coffee? check. arrest people that he says to arrest even though i disagree with the call? check again. I watched him make fun of complainants on a regular basis and out and out lie to them, making up rules and regulations as he went along to avoid doing followup work. I have a dozen more examples but i'll tell those to you in person so we can save time here. I knew he was a jerk and that i would surpass him in my career but i had to survive probation first.

and now back to today.................

At no time did Thomas Lane aid and abet a murder. He held the ANKLES of george floyd and on TWO OCCASIONS asked his training officer if they should turn him on his side and was given a negative response both times by his training officer with chauvin stating that floyd was 'staying right where he is.' game, set and match. shut your mouth and hold his ankles until your training officer tells you to do otherwise.

If you watch the video closely, there is certainly room for debate as to whether lane could even see or hear anything going on at the top of floyd's body and all he did was hold the lower portion of the legs to prevent kicking and i don't think that qualifies as aiding a murder. Did lane know how much pressure was being applied on floyd's neck? of course not. Had he ever seen this type of arrest before in his four day career? probably not.

Now i know people are going to tell me that i'm just protecting a cop but the phrase "reasonable doubt" is going to come into play in that court room. 

You have to prove the following element for aiding & abetting conviction:  "person is criminally liable for a crime committed by another if the person intentionally aids, advises, hires, counsels, or conspires with or otherwise procures the other to commit the crime."

At what point does thomas lane do any of that??? Is there anyone reading this that thinks holding floyd's lower torso is aiding in his death? if lane DIDN'T hold his legs, would george floyd still have died? the answer is obviously yes.

And now let's take it the rest of the way home. 2ND DEGREE MANSLAUGHTER sounds absolutely terrible and it is, IF you've done the element of the crime, as follows:  "if you knowingly take a risk that results in the death of another" simply doesn't apply by any stretch of the imagination. Exactly what risk did lane take?

He made TWO requests to his training officer to turn him on his side PLUS he called the ambulance PLUS he performed cpr on george floyd before the ambulance arrived on scene. If the jury enters that court room with an open mind, thomas lane goes home to his family rather than a long stretch in the state penitentiary.

FYI---Is there a possibility of a plea bargain for lane in exchange for his testimony and no jail time? absolutely. His law enforcement career is over no matter what so if he has a chance to avoid prison for telling the truth, why not?? a sure thing over a roll of the dice. His attorney EARL GRAY, is one of the best defense attorneys around so at least lane has that going for him. Gray loves the media and loves the camera.

Good luck to a man caught in a vice.

A MOMENT FOR ME

When i write these columns, they're made up of two things: the truth and my opinion. i don't make stuff up and i don't jockey the numbers and i try to fact check every item that i print and to the best of my knowledge, the facts are the facts and not fiction.

 

But there are some people who will not accept the facts, no matter how obvious and they'll argue until the cows come home that the sky is NOT blue and proclaim to the heavens that water is NOT wet. 

So i have made a personal decision to no longer engage in conversation with people who are too stupid to change their minds when presented with overwhelming evidence to support a fact. For example, recently a reader of this column was aghast when i called the president a racist but i've had that opinion long before he was president and had many examples to back it up so i started citing the verified incidents of racism. His reaction? change the subject. When i asked if he needed more examples, he wouldn't answer.

THE INABILITY TO ACCEPT FACTS RATHER THAN RUMOR OR GOSSIP OR FAIRY TALES dooms you to inaccuracy the rest of your life and a lack of respect from those with open minds who try to teach.

PERFECT EXAMPLE IN THE PAST?  ME. for years, i poo-poohed any discussion on global warming. Now i have no idea why i initially took that position but after several television specials, i headed to the video library to do my own research and in a couple of weeks, i totally changed my position. 

But people on my original side offer just one argument: "it's just a cycle and it will pass in time." Watching icebergs break in half when it's never happened before is not a cycle but it is a catastrophe when the water is warming in the Artic. The waters in mexico have also warmed by several degrees and much of the marine life has moved on to cooler waters and commercial fisherman say their catches are down 50% over the last five years.

 On a far simpler note, i used to watch a hundred pelicans every morning and then in the late afternoon day dive bomb the waters catching fish. Two years ago the pelicans disappeared. This is the part where the other side points out that's why the fish left the area in the first place, not the warmer water.

But 'those people' have blinders on just like a plow horse and don't recognize the increase in hurricanes and violent weather and the delay in seasons and the torrid summer temperatures and drought and flooding and on and on and on. Just like the horse, they only see what's right in front of them and they're perfectly satisfied with that. so sad.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF STUPID PEOPLE: I had a reader of this column write me and say "what's the big deal about 100,000 people dying? that's less than .00001 percent of our total population." After i picked my jaw up, i asked her, "are you saying it's ok for a hundred thousand people to die from this virus?"  She said it was insignificant and the flu took half that many every year and nobody made a fuss about that. "The virus will eventually die out just like the flu so people should be allowed to work if they want to and those that don't, stay home."  My head hurts from shaking it side to side.

Now there are subjects like gun control, the death penalty and a women's right to choose where both sides have valid points and eventually you just have to pick a position but when the evidence for global warming is there.............there really is no debate.

I believe that people have the right to a handgun for personal protection and a three slug shotgun for hunting but all forms of automatic weapons should be forbidden and the death penalty should apply to those violators. automatic weapons are manufactured for the sole purpose of killing people. period. my opinion.

I also strongly believe that the death penalty should be more often and taxpayer money should not be used housing and feeding these psychos for 10 years so they can waste even more money with multiple appeals, all on the taxpayer's dime.

And just as strongly, i believe that all women have every right to determine their futures regarding the birth of a child.

AND NOW SOME POLITICS: When ULTRA-CONSERVATIVE ANN COULTER jumps the fence, you know something is rotten on the other side. This woman actually authored a book titled "In trump we trust" in 2016 and now says trump is a "broken and shallow man" and acts like a "blithering idiot" with his "trash tweets" and "zippy the chimp would bring more decorum to the white house because trump is a moron." ouchie ouchie. mom, can you kiss my boo-boo?

Illinois governor JB PRITZKER is beginning to look reeeeeeeee-al smart for sticking to his plan to slowly re-open the state. Working in concert with chicago mayor LORI LIGHTFOOT, pritzker has deflected the predictable b.s. legal challenges from downstate republicans and continued with his schedule. And now states who reopened like the wild west with no rules (hello wisconsin) are seeing a huge spike in virus infections. as daddy used to say....'you get what you ask for.'

The protests over the disaster in Minneapolis has gotten out of hand. I've never understood why they burn and pillage their own neighborhoods. Some of the protesters have their hearts in the right place but what good does it do to burn stores and vandalize the outside of buildings? That accomplishes nothing.

And there comes a time when violence will be met with violence, you can bet on that. Please go home and let the courts decide the fates of the officers rather than do battle with the military.

well, brown got his baptism over the memorial day weekend when the jungle erupted in gunfire with 10 dead & 45 wounded. only four more months of warm weather left and you cannot control the jungle when summer temperatures arrive. As stated before, members of the jungle don't care about you, your department, their neighborhoods or even themselves. it's too late to walk back your prediction so you're screwed. did you already sell your house in dallas? As my Uncle Jack used to say, "the only way to control crime in the jungle is to keep it winter time all year around" so true.

I was reading some campaign history the other day and found this very interesting fact: do you know that your political contribution can be used to pay legal fees if 'your guy' gets in trouble?? true story. chicago alderman ED BURKE was indicted last May by the federal government on 14 counts of corruption and to date, has racked up $800,000 in legal bills. (yes,that figure is correct) burke just simply cuts his legal team a check out of his campaign war chest, which was created by political contributions. Nice to know where your money goes.

P.S.    little donnie got scolded again today for his tweet which 'glorified violence' up in minnesota.

Then, he tells all 50 governors that if they didn't open their states up, then he would do it for them because 'i have the power.' WRONG. 

Then he declares the he has the authority to re-open all the houses of worship. WRONG AGAIN. 

and finally, he's going to shut down twitter because they're trying to silence the conservatives and he doesn't like it. ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!! now if you live in China, Cuba or North Korea, the government decides audio-video content but not here, little donnie. maybe you'd like to consider a move?

ALL OF US at one time or another, probably in college, have tasted that godawful elixir know as MALORT. it's normally on the bottom shelf at the local bar and has an inch of dust on the bottle. it's been described as paint thinner or jet fuel and has no redeeming value for the human race. just terrible and the only way you normally drink it is if you lose a bet, are stupid ass drunk or someone convinces you that a shot will help your cold.

DISGUSTING. i can see ...and smell.....the college students bent over the porcelain god already. sales start today.  $25. what a bargain.

Did NORTH CAROLINA REPUBLICAN SENATOR RICHARD BURR get caught with his hand in the cookie jar? The FBI raided his house on May 14th as allegations of insider trading swirled around the long time senator. For the uninformed, the FBI would need to convince a judge that a crime had been committed before he would issue the search warrant.

The facts: Burr dumped 1.7 million dollars worth of stock just before information about the corona virus was released to the general public and he was the chairman of the senate intelligence committee, which would have given him access to sensitive information regarding the stock market. did he take advantage of inside information? Burr has already resigned his chairmanship and the other republican senator in that state, THOM TILLIS,  is demanding an explanation. I bet he is because he's up for

re-election in november while burr is good until 2023.............. or until he's fitted for a prison jumpsuit.

donald trump FINALLY got his appendage stepped on by the people who run TWITTER  when they red flagged two of his unsubstantiated tweets on tuesday. #1 was trump claiming that california is going to mail ballots to anyone who lives in the state and #2 is the mail ballots will lead to fraud. TWITTER red flagged both tweets and 'corrected' the ridiculous claims by stating there is no evidence that mail in ballots lead to fraud and secondly, that california will only be contacting registered voters. trump, of course, jumped the rails and claimed that twitter is part of a conspiracy to steal the election and take away free speech. it's getting better every day....................

Anyone else not believe that trump took chloroquine? He is so full of crap but it was a win-win for him.  after two weeks, he declares, " See? I'm still here. i guess it's ok to use." AGAIN & AGAIN. four police officers were fired almost immediately following the death of a black man who kept telling the officer kneeling on his neck that he "couldn't breathe."  I can guarantee you this particular procedure is not taught at the police academy and i understand the outrage in Minneapolis, especially after the senseless killing of JUSTINE DIAMOND in 2017, who was the COMPLAINANT and was walking out to talk to the officers in her pajamas when the officer in the passenger seat reached over the driver and fired one shot into her chest. Her family got 20 million dollars and the cop got 12 years in prison. Diamond was white and the officer was a Somalian. The names of the officers have not been released but the FBI is now involved so all four better hire great civil rights attorneys. incredible.

Ok, all of the TRUMPTY-DUMPTYS are mad at me because i keep picking on the clorox man so in order to give them time to settle down this holiday weekend, i will TRY to avoid talking about him. (he is such an easy target--fish in a barrel).  No promises but let's try it.

A recent conversation with a guy in the know taught me:  you can't throw a pizza box into the recycle dumpster because the grease marks disqualify it as clean recycle. I didn't know that.  Also, no plastic bags because they jam the conveyor belts at the recycling center. i did know that but only since someone told me a couple months ago.

Idea for a series of 30 second public service announcements. 'what NOT to put in the recycle bin'.......... i bet people would learn something.

If you want to have an interesting family/friends discussion, name the 5 most famous people from Chicago or the 5 best athletes in Chicago history or pick a team...........let's say the cubs.....and pick the 5 best of all time. i guarantee a lively discussion will follow so have the rescue squad on speed call.

Just thought of another one. the old stranded on a desert island story---what 5 movies would you take? mine would be the GODFATHER 1 & 2, JAWS, BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID with the final one being..........i'll think about it for a while.

Exactly how do you practice social distancing on the sideline of a NFL game? 53 players +10 reserves+10 coaches+4 trainers & doctors+10 equipment people+game officials gets you to about 100 people who will need 600 feet for distancing and the field is only 300 feet long.  uh-oh.

I don't think he cares after his 10 million dollar settlement but the league changed his designation to 'unrestricted free agent' to shut her up.  And he'll get his next job in the NFL when????? the first word that came to your mind was absolutely correct.          N-E-V-E-R

What kaepernick and many people don't understand is that for every action, there's a reaction and your actions always have consequences. do you have the right to drive 60 mph in a 40 mph zone? sure, go ahead but then don't whine when you get a ticket and a big fine. kaepernick was doing 100 mph............

I still don't get all the angst over voting by mail. every day we hear 'avoid crowds and stand apart' so why stand in line for an hour at a polling place? i've early voted for years to avoid the crowds but now you have no idea who was in the booth just before you and with a shortage of election judges, you know the booth won't be sanitized after each voter. and as far as those claims of 'massive voter fraud with mail-in ballots'?

that's totally unsubstantiated garbage.  VOTE BY MAIL. 

Following the previous thought, i see where 16 year olds are eligible to be election judges. smart. plenty of sophomores and junior looking for work. Fifty bucks a day and they won't have to get their computer hands dirty.

If you haven't been in the military and have no real idea, take a guess at this.  what does a raw army recruit make a month while in boot camp? i took a guess and was real wrong. now think about it..........

$1640.00 a month! i think that's pretty good for a kid who knows nothing about the military and gets room and board and professional training as part of the package. That's just under twenty grand. i thought it was much less than that.

My cub fan nephew frank will be happy. PORTILLO's is opening another restaurant down the street a piece from wrigley field. the boy would kill for their dogs and beefs.

Do you remember when the mailman delivered twice a day?? true story. people would get their electric bill in the morning mail, write a check and put it in the box on the front of your house and it was picked up about 2 p.m. the SAME DAY. (twice the agony if you were waiting for something to arrive) Everyone knew your carrier's name and gave him christmas presents and invited him in on real hot or cold days.  no mas.

With the shutdown, more people are hunting and fishing than ever before. just under SIXTEEN THOUSAND turkeys were harvested (nice way of saying whacked) in Illinois, just missing the record of 16,599 set in 2006. the DNR also says that 'everyone is fishing, all day every day, rain or shine' and fishing license purchases are up 13,000 from last year.  like i said earlier, you can only watch so many movies.

I'm making ribs, cajun burgers and spicy Italian sausages on the grill this weekend if mother nature lets me.but a tornado watch was just issued for the next 7 hours so it's time to batten down the hatches.

NANCY PELOSI confirmed her admission into the low life bitch club this week when she used the term 'morbidly obese' to describe the president. So unprofessional. We spend a lot of time (at least i hope you do) teaching kids about how wrong it is to bully and make fun of physical issues like fat, skinny, limp, braces, lisp, missing teeth, etc. but she goes on national tv and makes that snarky statement. makes no difference what side of the fence you're on, THIS WAS JUST WRONG. if that's the best you can do, maybe it's time to stand down and ride off into the sunset............... BITCH.

And now back to the other side. what is trump's deal about wearing a mask? seriously, lead by example, you mutt. "i wouldn't give the media the satisfaction of seeing me in the mask." WHAT?

Whether you're into sports or not, MINOR LEAGUE baseball is the one in a world of hurt. They don't get any of the huge media money like MLB so they rely on their in-person fans to generate revenue from parking, concessions and souvenirs. no fans=no money which means no baseball team. their season normally runs for 4 months and ends on labor day weekend. Already one month gone. sad.

LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL announced today they are trying to put together a 5 week season BUT THERE WILL BE no high fives, no handshakes, no hugs and assigned seats in the dugout with each seat being 6 feet apart (top of my head---a 14 man roster would require a 70 foot long dugout) and they will change baseballs every two innings??? apparently, the virus can't be passed after just one inning. 

ALSO, no chewing gum or sunflower seeds, no sharing of any equipment and the umpire will move from the plate to behind the pitcher's mound AND NO SPITTING from players, coaches or umpires. After the games, teams would simply tip their hats to the other team. Sounds real wrong but it beats no baseball for the kids.

Think that 5 days of rain was nasty? well, you'd be correct. the world famous SEARS TOWER, aka willis tower, got so much water inside the building that it flooded the electrical room and the building has been dark all week. big time money there.

In case you missed it, monday's rainfall set the record for the month of may and broke the record from 2019 which broke the record from 2018.........you get the picture.  it rains a lot in may.

95,000 dead, 1.6 million infected, 36 million people unemployed and what does millionaire tampa bay pitcher BLAKE SNELL say to the media when discussing reduced paychecks (for reduced games)?? "If i don't get full pay, i'm not playing. i've got to get mine." 

OMG. this man makes 7.6 million and his follow up statement was, "I'm not playing for half. The health risk isn't worth it." but apparently, FULL PAY eliminates the health risk and he'll play for that. screw him. another guy that should bag groceries for a year and taste reality. jerkwad.

Gotta love the Michigan secretary of state Jocelyn Benson for her smooth reply to the orange man when he jumped the rails again and accused her of "illegally sending out 7 million ballots and now i'm going to withhold their federal funding.!!!"  Benson calmly replied that she had sent out APPLICATIONS, not ballots, "the same as my republican colleagues in Iowa, Nebraska, Georgia and West Virginia." Apparently, that was the end of the conversation and the idiot moved on to something else.

A polling company who keeps track of such things says that trump speaks '15 untrue statements' EVERY DAY and he is currently at 14,000 (and counting) during his presidency. Plus, if you monitor trump at the podium, it's one lie or untruth EVERY FIVE MINUTES. that's freaking incredible for the leader of this country.

A recent favorite lie of mine was when he said this week he received the Michigan 'man of the year' award  a few years ago AND EVEN I KNOW THAT'S A LIE! you know why i know? because Michigan DOESN'T HAVE a man of the year award!!! what trump got was a framed copy of the gettysburg address after being the guest speaker at a Lincoln Day dinner. i wonder if he ever read it?

Speaking of MIchigan, you've got to feel for GOVERNOR GRETCHEN WHITMER, whose state has one of the highest corona virus numbers and then dealing with two failing dams, which displaced 10,000 people.  How do you think Michiganders felt when trump accused them of the 'illegal ballot' fiasco and then threatened to withhold federal money, which they will sorely need to rebuild? little donnie won the state by just 11,000 votes in 2016. any bets on Michigan in november?
