Just got back from visiting my nephew in california and spending extended time in a TESLA automobile and it's like something from star wars. totally electric and it makes no noise. none. zero. and it costs you less than a dollar a day to re-charge it daily at your house and then you can go about 250/300 miles.
the company says it will cost you about $90 to travel 1500 miles using their super chargers along the way, (about $13 out on the road) which take no more than 30 minutes. perfect time for a bathroom stop and to grab something to eat. they're pricey at 65k but if you sit down with a sharpened pencil and do some figuring..................
******************************************
We live in the chicago area and have heard stories about rats our entire lives but how about TREE RATS? apparently, it's a california specialty because of their moderate weather and just perfect for when you're relaxing in the back yard. "honey, bring me a beer and the pellet gun." whoa.
********************************
and you'll never again complain about traffic in chicago once you visit the los angeles area. with rare exception, they have no public transportation. none. trains & buses are something california kids read about in midwest history books. GRIDLOCK in the dictionary simply has a map of L.A. next to it. all day & most of the night, bumper to bumper.
*******************************
Finally, i'm with my nephew in the tesla and it's 91 degrees outside but we're just fine in the a/c. then we start heading to 'the valley' and then it's 93, 97, then 101 and finally 104. i thought maybe we had driven into a wild fire but he just shrugged his shoulders. "if we were in yucca valley, it would be 112, 114 degrees." adios, so-cal.
**********************************
back here on earth, i still find sitting in the gazebo at night and listening to COUSIN BRUCIE playing the oldies on sirius radio while smoking a cigar and holding an adult beverage is a perfect way to enjoy an evening.
******************************
I'm serious about this question. HAS ANYONE seen a lot of lightning bugs? i get a few at dusk and then they disappear. very strange. when we were kids, we'd run around with a mason jar collecting them until your folks called you in for the night.
and i hope this last part is true for everyone..........i have no mosquitos around my house. haven't been bitten at breezy acres all summer. yessssssssss!

LAS VEGAS R.I.P.
I've decided that i'm ALL DONE WITH LAS VEGAS and i'm going to tell you why. At the pool at CAESARS PALACE, i ordered a vodka/cranberry and told the girl to give the same to my three buddies. the bill came to $72 for the four drinks.
EIGHTEEN BUCKS APIECE! it's not that i can't afford the tab but it pisses me off that they're hijacking you on their property and you have no other options. the waitress whispers to me, " there's a liquor store two blocks away where you can buy a couple of bottles of GREY GOOSE and all the cranberry you want for less than seventy-two bucks."
but i didn't come to las vegas to drink in my room so i decided to check out the other hotels and all five (flamingo, harrahs, bellagio, mirage and treasure island) were within a dollar of each other for the same drink. AND WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? you're at the pool and you want a cold adult beverage................
And let me add to my angst with the now infamous RESORT FEE which at caesars is $51 per night.
and now the big ragu...............if you want to see a concert and sit in the first 30 rows, check out these prices.......................................JERRY SEINFELD $290.......................KEITH URBAN $334...JOURNEY 364........
ROD STEWART $365 and my favorite, GUNS AND ROSES.................$1900!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so let's add it up. $450 round trip air fare x 2= $900 + $239 per night PLUS $51 resort fee = $290 a night ($1160.00 for 4 nights) plus two shows @ $350 a show x 2 =$700 x 2 = $1400. for the math challenged, that's $3460 and you haven't paid for a meal or made a single bet so you're looking at $4000-6000 for 4 days in las vegas. that's what i pay to stay TWO MONTHS IN MEXICO!
I recently went to rivers casino in des plaines. played $25 blackjack for 3 hours and paid $7 apiece for two drinks and $22 for lunch for two. my bottom line was -$212 and i was home in 35 minutes.
Plus i can go to RAVINIA or GENESEE to see big time acts for about a hundred bucks.
LAS VEGAS???? i'll pass. It was fun while it lasted.
