A GREAT WEEK
WHAT A WEEK IN SPORTS!
First off....despite the fact i had a winning tickets on #7 (and 13 losing ones) the stewards made the absolute correct call in DQing MAXIMUM SECURITY and awarding the win to 65-1 shot COUNTRY HOUSE. the horse definitely caused WAR OF WILL to pull up down the stretch which caused him to lose a fair shot at the roses.
and for all of you piss ants who are ragging at my choices but don't have the stones to go public pre-race with your picks, my horses finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. nothing you can do when a long shot excels in the slop.
the folks who run the PREAKNESS have to be taking hands full of aspirin because the owners of country house announced today that the derby winner WILL NOT participate due to illness PLUS maximum security and derby scratch OMAHA BEACH are also going to be no shows. no triple crown excitement. ouch.
the NHL should be jumping up and down because the STANLEY CUP is up for grabs after ALL FOUR DIVISIONAL WINNERS went down in flames in the first round. the greatest teo words in sports....GAME 7
the second round of the western conference finds DALLAS & ST LOUIS in a GAME 7 ON TUESDAY NIGHT and SAN JOSE & COLORADO will do the same thing on wednesday night. GREAT THEATRE!!!! the winners face each other in round three.
CAROLINA AND THE BOSTON BRUINS will battle in the third round of the eastern conference for the right to play in the finals.
CUB FANS should relax and come in off the ledge. i have long realized they're challenged with a lack of baseball acumen and basic understanding of the game which is why i wrote in april that they'd win 88 games and make the playoffs. they're far from a perfect game and need 1) a bullpen closer REAL BAD and 2) a manager who doesn't melt under the bright lights but the rest of the ball club is ready to rock roll. enjoy the season.
and speaking of enjoying the season.........is this the year for the CHICAGO BEARS? the defense is going to be clock cleaners again but do you have faith in MITCH TRIBISKY? i don't. has head coach MATT NAGY learned how to call a game so embarrassing losses don't occur like last year in miami and new youk. apparently, LAS VEGAS also has raised eyebrows and puts the win total for the bears at just 9 1/2 after going 12-2 last season. hmmmmmmm. but a super bowl appearance on ground hog day would be cool.
now a little further south of soldier field........despite getting their asses kicked over the weekend, i wrote in april that the goal of the WHITE SOX is to win 72 games, which would be +12 from last year, a 20% improvement and then they could make a run at the playoffs in 2020 BUT.................it appears the injury bug has set up shop in the sox locker room. they lose MICHAEL KOPECH to tommy john surgery and now it looks like #1 starter CARLOS RODON is heading down the same road. recovery is normally a minimum of a calendar year and a half so that does not bode well for my boys. this team will becoming a run-scoring machine in time but their bull pen is atrocious and it's no fun losing 12-8.
