It's become very apparent that only the teams who want to win THIS YEAR have become active in the trade market as the friday deadline nears.
the nationals pick up JONATHON PAPELBON for a minor league starting pitcher. the royals wanted BEN ZOBRIST and sent two minor leaguers to oakland to make the deal. the angels felt they needed outfield depth for the pennant push and in seperate deal, obtained DAVID DeJESUS and DAVID MURPHY for guess what?? two minor leaguers. ARE YOU SEEING THE PATTERN?
you have to give to get but apparently they don't understand that on the north side. you have to wear big boy pants in july and be willing to take a gamble so you can get to the post season dance. sometimes it works, sometimes not. BUT sitting with TWENTY MOVABLE PARTS and not doing anything is a slap in the face to both your team and your fans.
even if you come up with an 'untouchable' list of obvious people on the current major league roster, it still leaves the cubs with minor leaguers JAVY BAEZ, JEN HO SING, PIERCE JOHNSON, BILLY MCKINNEY, GLEYBER TORRES, ALBERT ALMORA and C J EDWARDS. other than baez, heard of any of them?
add to that STARLIN CASTRO, JORGE SOLER and another half dozen 'movable parts' from the current roster and you can definitely interest a phillies club that is the worst team in baseball and need to rebuild in almost every position.
the cubs have one more chance to pull the trigger this week and trade for pitcher COLE HAMELS. why him and not DAVID PRICE? because hamels has three years left on his deal while price is a free agent in two months and as mentioned, the phillies need to rebuild. the cubs need a pitcher NOW if they're serious about competing and sending three from the above list would probably do the deal. two days to go. testicles or no?

BASEBALL'S GETTING GOOD!
FIRE ROBIN VENTURA
How much longer can they take it on the south side? i see where the ballpark fans are starting to chew up ADAM LAROCHE and ALEXIE RAMIREZ and rightfully so. 12 home runs and 62 rbi's would be pretty good at this time of the year for one player but that's the TOTAL FOR BOTH. they absolutely suck and the fans are tired of it. ramirez is unfocused defensively and hitting .224 while the adam dunn look-a-like is hitting a whopping .218. not bad for ten & twelve million but at least the sox have the option for ramirez for next year if he's not traded by then. we're stuck with adam dunn jr. for another year...................... at thirteen million. but i feel a lot better after reading today that laroche is going to work his way out of the season long slump by....batting practice? watching video? working with the hitting coach???? sorry, but he's going to work on his ......confidence. lord, give me strength.
KYLE SCHWARBER has given the sewer rats on the north side plenty to cheer about as he continues to hit around .400 after ten days in the majors. reminds of a guy named JAVY BAEZ who tore them up with a similar average for a month last year before finishing at ......... .169 but as i reported earlier, schwarber is a hitting machine and MIGUEL MONTERO may find out what WALLY PIPP felt like when LOU GEHRIG took his place.
the cubs still need hitting AND a starting pitcher but do they have the guts to make a trade? counting the young guys on the roster already, the cubs have 16 solid prospects with a dozen still in the minors but they don't want to trade any of them. last time i checked, only 8 can play the field at any one time. what the cubs normally do is look for excuses NOT TO MAKE A TRADE. this guy didn't pitch well the last two starts, this guy is struggling at the plate, he makes too much money, blah, blah, blah. so they'll probably stand pat and hope they get lucky when DAVID PRICE becomes a free agent because the dodgers and yankees have very deep pockets.
p.s. the GIANTS are a half game behind the cubs for that final wild card spot. feeling cozy?
the baseball wild card races are snoozers this year as the cubs, giants and METS fight it out for the final spot and in the american league, MINNESOTA & HOUSTON have a strangle hold on the two wild card spots. seventeen teams out of thirty are playing less than .500 baseball and when you subtract the six division leaders, that leaves a total of just seven teams to fight for the wild card and two of those are just over .500 and dreaming if they think they can make it.
THANKFULLY, the BEARS start camp next week and the JAY CUTLER experience will continue for the low, low price of twenty one million dollars per year. the best part of the off season was the very lukewarm reaction to cutler by new coach JOHN FOX. is that a smile i see on backup qb JIMMY CLAUSEN'S face? methinks mr. cutler's days are numbered.
enjoy the cubs while you can. adios

ODDS & ENDS
FIRE ROBIN VENTURA!
Another robin ventura nugget from sunday's game against the cubs. the white sox have been struggling to score runs all year and have the lowest total in the major leagues. so how does the worst manager in baseball handle the problem today? he freaking benches the best hitter the sox have in JOSE ABREU and the sox produce but one run. ok einstein, why did you bench him? "well, he has a sore finger and a sore leg and i thought i'd give him an extra day because this is all-star week." WHAT???? abreu had no comment for the media other than "he's the manager." you play your stud and THEN give him the four days off, you moron. believe me, if it doesn't heal in four days, then it's not going to heal in five. EVERYONE PLAYS THE SUNDAY BEFORE THE BREAK!
oh wait, i have another one for the dumb ass of the year award. JOSH DONALDSON is hitting .600 against the white sox (not a typo---six freaking hundred) and with first base open and two outs the other night, einstein elects to pitch to donaldson and BAM! double! and the sox lose 2-1. television announcers KEN HARRELSON & STEVE STONE were incredulous after ventura's move. stone said, "there's comes a time when you realize your pitchers can't get a certain guy out and you simply walk him. this was one of those times." and the hawk agreed---on the air! FRV

and speaking of the cubs, after scoring two or less runs in 12 of their last 18 games and only four runs in three games against a mediocre white sox team, it's time to make a trade. their pitching appears to have come around but you need offense because you won't win every 2-1 game you play. so it's time to trade some of these 'movable parts' the cubs have talked about for three years. you need an experienced major league hitter (probably an outfielder) and the closer it gets to the july 31 deadline, the more they're going to pay. so pull the trigger now.
and what about KYLE SCHWARBER?? if catcher MIGUEL MONTERO goes on the disabled list for 15 days with his thumb, look for schwarber to be called up to fill the roster spot for two weeks because schwarber is a left handed bat as is montero. this would send TAYLOR TEAGARDEN (who?) back to the minors and schwarber would get the majority of the playing time until montero is back in uniform. BUT if the injury is more serious, i think schwarber stays in the minors because handling a pitching staff in a playoff race for two & a half months would put a lot of pressure on a 22 year old kid. we all know he's a hitting machine but you don't want to destroy his confidence if he fails defensively.
and speaking of failing, does it ever stop with PETE ROSE? new reports indicate that rose DID bet on his team as a player in 1986 but rose vehemently denies the allegations. please remember that he also vehemently denied gambling on baseball at anytime before he admitted to wagering while he managed the CINCINNATI REDS after being suspended for life. when asked saturday night if he would ever admit the extent of his gambling, rose said "i'll take that to my grave."
rose was a great ballplayer but he's always been a lowlife neandrethal as a human being. if he had just come clean with EVERYTHING twenty five years ago, he would have had a chance for admission to the HALL OF FAME because time does heal most wounds but when your bad behavior repeatedly leaks out every couple of years, you're doomed. and exactly WHEN are you telling the truth?
are the WHITE SOX buyers or sellers? SELLERS!!!!!!! don't be fooled by this recent streak of nine wins in twelve games. they play uninspired baseball for a stupid manager plus they can't hit or catch. back up the wagon and move JEFF SAMARDZIJA, JOHN DANKS, ALEXIE RAMIREZ, TYLER FLOWERS (to the cubs?) GORDON BECKHAM and JOSE QUINTANA. that should bring you a few prospects which is better than the crap that's on the south side now. and fire robin ventura. FRV.
the aforementioned north siders? BUYERS!! they need offense and have the pieces to trade.
breaks my heart that steroid juicer ALEX RODRIGUEZ didn't get picked for the all-star team. believe me when i say that NOBODY outside of new york city cares.
and speaking of hockey, the NHL is the only professional league with a HARD SALARY CAP. simply put, a hard cap means.....here's the dollar amount and you can't go over that in total salaries.... while other sports have a soft cap where you simply pay a penalty tax if you go over. so with this hard cap, the BLACKHAWKS are scrambling to stay under it and in the process had to trade fan favorites in PATRICK SHARP AND BRANDON SAAD because they were either making too much money or asking for too much. it really sucks for chicago because this is the second time in five years they've had to restructure the team after winning the stanley cup. maybe the players will be a little tougher in the next contract negotiations and get the hard cap dropped.
that's it. enjoy the week.

AROUND THE WORLD
LUCKY PERSON OF THE DAY----a mom in turkey thought she had a good idea when the family went to the beach to cool off on a hot sunday in July. an inflatable crib for her six month old baby so the entire family could enjoy the water at the same time. however, when transferring control of the crib in the water from one family member to another, a wave caused the crib to separate from the adults and it floated off to sea. for a half mile! no worries, the turkish navy was able to catch the crib and return the baby to mom. time to buy a lottery ticket.

now to the other side of the fence. the citizens of the jungle, also known as the west & south sides of chicago, celebrated the 4th of july weekend by opening fire on their own people, killing 7 and wounding 40. there is obviously some correlation between warm weather and the jungle crime rate because murders were way down during a rainy and cold month of june. and in the 'reap what ye sow' department: the seven year old daughter of a long time gang member was killed when a rival gang tried to assassinate her father. now do you understand the dangers of being in a gang?

remember the homeless person named TED WILLIAMS from four years ago that had that deep basso voice and he was rescued from the streets because of his talent? well, check out this homeless guy from florida out as he plays the piano. his name is DONALD GOULD.

his talent isobvious in this two minute video. i can barely play the radio.

is DONALD TRUMP the sorriest son of a bitch in the public eye? yeah, that's what we need running for the white house....a rich white racist with a sense of entitlement. oh wait, isn't that a republican? seriously, he needs to drop out now and when he does, he'll blame the american people for not 'being ready for change.' idiot.
************************************************************************************
but speaking of people who are serious contenders for the white house, HILLARY CLINTON raised 45 million dollars in the first quarter of 2015. can anyone stop her ?

well, the south once again reared it's ugly head after the supreme court ruling on gay marriage opened legalized nuptials to everyone. but all over the south, village clerks refused to issue the licenses because of their religious beliefs. ok fine, but if you can't do your sworn duties as clerk, then resign rather than collecting a paycheck for doing half your job. kind of like a cop who won't make a drug arrest because he believes drugs should be legal.

if you want to be one of the BEAUTIFUL RICH PEOPLE, then you have to live in either california or new york where the average incomes skyrocket compared to the rest of the nation. nineteen of the top twenty income locations are in those two states with the only exception being miami beach which placed tenth on the list. i wonder where my home town of northlake placed on that list?

and finally, we end on a happy note for HARRY THE CHOW-CHOW, who was rescued from an abuse situation in missouri. found chained in the back yard and neglected for years, it took the rescue hospital THREE HOURS to shave FIVE POUNDS OF MATTED AND TWISTED HAIR. unfortunately, the long term abuse took harry's vision and part of his nose but harry is now negotiating the grounds of the rescue center just fine, gaining weight and socializing with other dogs and people. monitored by vets on a daily basis, he's targeted for an adoption in a couple of months.
that's it. enjoy your week.
