THOUGHTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Methinks that the hypocritical catholic church has stuck their hand or some other sensitive body part in a bee hive by firing the director of worship at HOLY FAMILY CHURCH after he announced his engagement to his gay partner via facebook. COLIN COLLETTE has been employed by the archdiocese of chicago for 23 years and his homosexuality was well know within the church and it's parishoners. then who caused the problem?

enter our old buddy, CARDINAL FRANCIS GEORGE, who sent an email to the pastor of holy family demanding collette's resignation.  when collette refused, he was fired.
now collette is NOT priest or a deacon but rather a standard employee who i believe is entitled to the same protection and rights as all other employees in illinois.  can't wait for the litigation...........and the settlement.

as previously stated, cardinal george is a vitriolic old man who hates the gay population and doesn't want them to be involved with the church.  george submitted his resignation last year to the pope and maybe his current insensitivity will make that happen sooner rather than later.

the ISRAEL-GAZA conflict is out of control. 1400 people killed in gaza and 60 in israel.  this is a 'no contest-no win' situation for gaza and hopefully today's 72 hour cease fire will be enough to end it as represenatives head to EGYPT to work out the details.  the photos of the dead school kids makes me sick.

hold on to your 401K's! the market fell over 300 points today and the market is afraid that interest rates will start going up after being dormant for 5 years.

talk about bad timing.  i drive by the gas station this morning and it's 3.33 a gallon.  too busy right now to stop so i'll get it this afternoon.  the stock market results are released and gas is 3.65 at 3:30 p.m. and that really sucked.

ok, give it up for the 68 year old grandma PEGGY KLEMM who got caught having sex in the pavilion of a retirement community in florida around 10:30 at night.  both players were arrested.  small problem for peggy is that her partner was NOT her husband.  peggy got 6 months as she violated her previous DUI probation. but get this: the bar located within the boundaries of the retirement communtiy has named a drink after her, SEX ON THE SQUARE. ya gotta love it.  where? just outside of orlando in THE VILLAGES. an obvious over-reaction on the part of the cops.

two thousand people die from the weather each year and take a guess what method kills the most.  tornado? nope. lightning? nope.  it's the cold which accounts for almost 1400 deaths a year.

both PAUL McCARTNEY & BILLY JOEL put on spectacular concerts this summer.  each performed about three hours.

adios for now.

just sports

If anyone ever needed a change of scenery, it's GORDON BECKHAM of the WHITE SOX. while excellent defensively. beckham has fallen into an offensive vortex and continues to spiral into the abyss known only to a .220 hitter. beckham has lost A HUNDRED points off his average in the past 8 weeks and looks absolutely lost.  six years is long enough.  time to cut ties and move him to a team like the giants who need defense at that spot.

"relief" pitcher DONALD BELLISARIO also needs a bus ticket out of town.  on sunday, the ump says move the bling off your wrist and bellisario admits that he let his anger toward the umpire affect his pitching. after loading the bases off that dolt, the twins rally for three runs and win 4-3.  bellisario has been nothing but a joke over the last month.  see if you can disguise him as a setup man and move him before the deadline.

i have to admit that i've enjoyed the last week with STEVE STONE doing the play by play and TOM PACIOREK providing the color on the television broadcast and it will continue thru the detroit series as HAWK takes care of personal business in florida. maybe it's time for the hawk to fly south permanently?

everyone is excited about the bears in july but it does appear as though LAMAR HOUSTON has come to play and was an excellent free agent signing from the OAKLAND RAIDERS. he played in EVERY game for the raiders over 4 years and appears to be a great bookend for JARED ALLEN.

just wondering---the PICK 6 at arlington on sunday paid $42,000.00. and how many tickets did you have on that winning combination?

gotta smile at the pitching records for JEFF  SAMARDZIJA & JASON HAMMEL since they were traded to oakland on the 4th of july. the shark couldn't win a game in chicago but he's 3-1 with an era of under three with the A's while hammel was the best pitcher for the cubs and he's 0-3 with an era of over 9.00. ouch.

if the cubs go 19-39 the rest of the way, they will once again ring the 0NE HUNDRED LOSS bell, which would make the 17th time in the last 50 years and that includes three times of 100+ losses on the big board. and if they can play .500 ball the rest of the way, they still lose 90. just how bad is bad?

BUT FEAR NOT, CUB FANS: from everything i read, when you add the MAGNIFICENT SEVEN of minor leaguers KRIS BRYANT, ADDISON RUSSELL, ALBERT ALMORA, JAVIER BAEZ, JORGE SOLER, KYLE SCHWARBER & the already rostered ARISMENDY ALCANTARA to all stars VINCE RIZZO & STARLIN CASTRO and a few other veterans, i amazed that there's not a line ALREADY for world series tickets at wrigley.

Psssst.......has anyone seen a pitcher anywhere on the north side?  oh yeah, EDWIN JACKSON.

adios for now.

ALL ABOUT SPORTS

How dominant was RORY McILROY in winning the BRITISH OPEN this weekend? first player in a million years to lead the tournament wire to wire without being tied at any time following the end of the first round.  side note: mcilroy dumped his pro tennis player girlfriend a couple of months ago and has been 'lights out' ever since.  when you're a pro at anything, the women can wait. concentrate on your craft. his game suffered for over a year when burdened with the relationship.

i just have one cubs issue in this blog. explain to me why the cubs keep MIKE OLT on the roster when he's a defensive liability at third and is only hitting .143? surely, they have to have someone in the minors who can do as well. maybe it's time for manny ramirez?

just who is going to grab ranger relief expert JOAKIM SORIA? he's the real deal on a ball club that resembles the titanic but how important is a stud closer?  it will cost you a ton but might bring a championship to your city.

i know i've said it before but if you have SIRIUS RADIO and the dodgers are playing a night game at home, take the time to listen to the first three innings and enjoy the dulcet tones of VIN SCULLY, who's been doing dodger baseball for sixty years.  he truly is a national treasure. dodger games start about 9:10 and scully switches to television after the third inning so you'll be in bed by 10:30 and be a better baseball person because of it.

PAT FOLEY of the blackhawks won a recent tribune poll for best play-by-play announcer and PAT HUGHES of the cubs was the best radio guy and both richly deserve those kudos.

THE WHITE SOX radio announcers, who both SUCK BIG TIME, both received 7% of the vote and most of that was probably from their families. DARRIN JACKSON & ED FARMER couldn't be any worse.

enough for now

THE BEAT GOES ON....

It was hard not to feel for MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL when he choked up at the microphone while dealing with the senseless shooting of a 10 year old girl on the west side. but the bottom line is that there will be no end to this violence in our lifetime.

WTF is going on in the UKRAINE??? emergency workers at the scene of the most recent MALAYSIAN AIRLINES disaster have been denied access to certain crash areas, bodies have disappeared and the black box is also missing.  world leaders have put pressure on RUSSIAN LEADER VLADIMIR PUTIN to intervene but so far, zip.  stay tuned.

COOK COUNTY PRESIDENT TONI PRECKWINKLE says 'no thank you' with regards to running for MAYOR OF CHICAGO but at the same time chose not to endorse anyone, which was a blow to fellow female KAREN LEWIS, who is chomping at the bit to butt heads with her arch nemesis rahm emanuel. ms lewis needs to understand that it takes money to run for mayor and rahm has both PRESIDENT OBAMA and former president BILL CLINTON ready willing and more than able to raise BIG TIME money for his re-election.  karen, here's some free advice: stick with the teacher's union.

want to be a firefighter in chicago?  they're taking applications thru september 16th for the first time in ten years.

think winter has any effect on summer?  the LAKE MICHIGAN water temps are about 8 degrees below normal and that body of water will never be mistaken as warm to begin with on any day.

how different are ISRAEL and GAZA? picture the city of CHICAGO going to war against FRANKLIN PARK. the gaza leaders need to take a breath and look at the big picture.  thay have no chance.

godspeed to JAMES GARNER, the man who played MAVERICK and also starred in THE ROCKFORD FILES.

and godspeed to my poker buddy ROGER KREUTZER, who passed away july 7th in lindenhurst.

adios for now

Anyone else tired of this crappy weather all summer? after the knee surgery, i was looking forward to sitting out in the gazebo in the evening but if you have to wear sweats & a sweatshirt, it kind of defeats the purpose of summer evenings. i can't even light the tiki torches because the high winds blow them out in about 5 minutes. wah-wah for me.

incredibly, convicted felon and former governor GEORGE RYAN says he feels  "no responsibility" for the tragic deaths of the six WILLIS children in 1994, despite the fact that the truck driver who hit them obtained  his license with bribes at the secretary of state's office.

ryan also shut down the subsequent investigation into bogus licensing and that fact came out during his trial, in which he was convicted of racketeering and fraud and sentenced to eight years. FYI--if you watch AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, the group known as THE WILLIS CLAN are the grandchildren of the surviving parents in that fiery crash.

see where AMAZON is requesting permision from the FAA to use a drone to deliver packages in less than 30 minutes? you gotta believe it will be a thief's dream when they watch the drone drop a package on a doorstep.

hey, what's your favorite airline? in the recently released 'on time' performances, most familiar names didn't do too well.  UNITED was 10th, (of 14) AMERICAN was 9th, and SOUTHWEST was 12th.  the three best? HAWAIIAN AIRLINES was #1 and ALASKA AIRLINES was 2nd with our old buddy DELTA 3rd. choose wisely.

your daughter getting ready for college? well, check with the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION to check the school's security record of investigating sexual assaults.  the sad fact is that 40% of all colleges don't investigate at all. again, choose wisely.

big smile on my face when JUSTIN BIEBER pled guilty and was placed on probation and ordered to pay his neighbor $80,000 for damages to his house. big deal you say? well, the little prick is NOT a citizen and subject to deportation to canada as soon as his dossier calls for it. he still has a drag racing charge pending along with a minor drug charge.
it's coming.

whaddya think about $13 an hour as a minimum wage? i'm not sure what the perfect answer is but people can't live on eight bucks an hour.

all done. later

NEWS & NOTES

I see where it's now MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL'S fault that the residents of the jungle are killing each other at a record pace this summer. last time i checked, he had allowed about two million dollars worth of police overtime to the jungle neighborhoods and crime was down from october thru march but then the warm weather arrived, the killing season began, AS USUAL.

again, these people in the jungle are uneducated animals who don't have the intelligence to moderate an argument through any other means but gunfire. IT WILL NEVER CHANGE but it will always be used as a race card when there's a black candidate for the mayor's office.

over three dozen people have been slain in the jungle since EASTER SUNDAY and over two hundred fifty wounded but most of the shooters get away with it because 'nobody knows nuttin' and everyone is blind. just last weekend the total was 13 & 58 in a 48 hour period!

admit it.  when you see the headline "2 DEAD, 9 WOUNDED ON SOUTH SIDE", you simply wet your index finger and turn the page of the tribune or press "next story" on your IPAD. we are so numb to the violence on the south & west sides and rightfully so.  they live in a world that is nowhere close to ours and quite frankly, we don't care anymore.  stay in your filthy neighborhoods, continue to kill each other and don't leave cook county.

everytime i read a story about a black man or woman who escaped the jungle because they didn't want to part of the violence, i smile a bit because then i know it's possible if someone is willing to pay the price. a recent story told of Samuel, who convinced his mother to move him and his two brothers to section 8 housing in bellwood when he was fifteen years old. samuel worked a part-time job all through high school and then TWO JOBS so he could go to college.

it was a long, tough road for samuel but today he's an intern at RUSH PRESPRYTERIAN HOSPITAL in chicago. "i had plenty of chances to join a gang, sell dope or run guns but all of those are dead ends.  it wasn't easy for us to relocate away from friends & family but i truly believe it saved the lives of our entire famly. since we moved away 15 years ago, over thirty of our friends have been shot & killed in our old neighborhood ."

that's why I KNOW it can be done but they have to be willing to say good-bye to the jungle and relocate. there's public housing all over the entire state of illinois.

just heard the news.  two more shot tonight in englewood. police are investigating but have no leads. what a shock.

THE BEAT GOES ON!

ROBIN VENTURA has lost his baseball mind.  for the second day in a row, he mismanaged the WHITE SOX into a loss and sent them into another tailspin with his blindfolded handling of the bullpen.

scenario: boston has tied the game in the sixth inning and have runners at second & third with two outs and DAVID ORTIZ coming to the plate. on deck is MIKE NAPOLI, who hasn't hit a ball hard the entire series. QUINTANA has given up ONE HIT to this point. solution? walk BIG PAPI and pitch to napoli. correct?  sorry, that is not the correct answer. pitch to the gorilla and let him slam one off the green monster for a two run double. game, set, match.

as i've stated earlier, check out the dynamics in the dugout. einstein is always in bench coach MARK PARENT'S ear but pitching coach DON COOPER should be listed as a missing person.  twice on his radio show yesterday, coop mentioned that "well, robin felt the pitcher could still get it done so he left him in."  does that sound like they're working together? i think one of those two will have a 'going away' party when the season ends.

and now......GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE CUBS! i don't know where they got him but i would love to see ARISMENDY ALCANTRA in a foot race against cincy speedster BILLY HAMILTON. wow, can that kid fly! he beat out a two hopper between the mound and third yesterday and the play wasn't even close.

manny ramirez?

and kudos to ANTHONY RIZZO for standing up for his teammates and calling out ARNOLDIS CHAPMAN for buzzing not one, but two of the cubs with head high 100 mph fastballs in the ninth inning. guts are not often displayed on the north side.

congrats to both CHRIS SALE & rizzo for winning the popularity contest and being named to the all star team but if you're being honest about it, sale deserved his spot and JUSTIN MORNEAU got screwed over.  he's hitting FIFTY points better than rizzo but plays in a small market where votes are harder to come by.

i see where the city has approved the cubs plan to modernize wrigley field and the plan allows them as many as seven outfield signs which pretty much guarantees years in the courts with the roof top owners.  the toppers are now willing to sit back down at the negotiating table. yeah, i bet they are. talk about losing your leverage.

and the best part for me is that all the wrigley purists can now disappear down the sewer as their beloved shrine (see crap hole) is now contaminated by advertising signage and modern scoreboards and video screens.  so that's one less thing for cub fans to talk about now that wrigley will be just like any other park.  hey, can you fix the bathrooms?

fear not cub fans.  i heard several pundits proclaiming that 2017 was going to be the year they make it to the world series because the 'core' of minor league players will be mature by then.  just a quick question.  who's pitching?
maybe manny ramirez?

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

EINSTEIN strikes again.  this time his ace, CHRIS SALE, is sailing along with a 4-0 four hittter in the bottom of the eighth with no walks & six strikeouts when einstein suddenly pops out of the dugout and pulls him from the game. WHAT????????

the reliever promptly gives up a single, a double, walk and another double and EVERY fucking hit was shot out of a cannon. THEN ven tura replaces him.

he can argue that 107 pitches was enough for his star pitcher  BUT this was sale's last start for NINE DAYS because of the all star break! the sox go on to lose in the bottom of the ninth, 5-4.

ROBIN VENTURA couldn't handle a little league pitching staff.  one time he leaves sale in when 5 hitters in a row send laser beams all over the field but tonight he pulls him when there is zero threat. FIRE ROBIN VENTURA!

manny ramirez?

is it just me or is DERRICK ROSE a bit of a pud? "it's not my job" to recruit free agents to the bulls. WHAT?? hey dickhead, do you want to win the title or not? are you that insecure that the thought of a hall of fame player coming to chicago makes you retreat into a shell?  grow up.

kudos to the BLACKHAWKS for locking up TOEWS & KANE for the next 8 years.  some fans rolled their eyes at ten million per but in a few years it will seem like a bargain.

i know that soccer isn't america's game but the passion displayed by both the players and fans is incredible. the tears of joy and the sheer relief of ARGENTINA'S fans following their win in overtime vs the NETHERLANDS looked like something scripted in hollywood. and the final on sunday against GERMANY should be fantastic.  i like the germans 1-0 in regulation time.

anyone else tired of the lebron carmelo bosch merry-go-round? just sign PAO GASOL and let's get to work.

or do we place bets that the BULLS get skunked again?

did you know there was an elevator in WRIGLEY FIELD? i just found it inside gate K by waveland avenue. it's a thousand year old lift that can get you to the upper deck. (well, maybe not a thousand years but it's old) beats the hell out of walking up 5 ramps.

ok, this will put a smile on your face. our CHICAGO BEARS are 6 point favorites over the BUFFALO BILLS on opening day at soldier field and the packers are 6 point underdogs when they open their season in SEATTLE.  good times.

an interesting happening in a local little league game. the umpire warns the 10 year old pitcher for throwing a curve ball in the second inning. the next inning, that same pitcher is removed from the mound (but not ejected) when he throws a second breaking ball.  the president of the league said simply, "they have their entire life to play sports.  we want to make sure they stay healthy while their bodies are still developing. no breaking balls until pony league."
 (13 & 14 years old)  i think i like it.

THREE is the the over/under on how many more players the cubs will trade by july 31.

say goodbye to AJ PIERSYNSKI, who was released by the BOSTON RED SOX today. it's doubtful if the all time cub killer will be picked up by another team unless there's a major injury to a catcher on a contending team.  AJ was great with the WHITE SOX but he has a habit of wearing out his welcome and at the age of 38, he probably has little left in the tank.

just throwing this out early....the WISCONSIN  BADGERS basketball team could be in a position to return to the final four this year. FRANK KAMINSKY of BENET ACADEMY in lisle decided to return to madison and he is a genuine basketball stud. at 7'0 and 240 pounds, he handles the ball well and has very nice moves around the hoop.  the badgers only lost one starter from the team that was outcoached against KENTUCKY in the semi-finals and maybe this season their talent can overcome BO RYAN'S incompetence.  maybe.

manny?

mostly cubs

Boy, how happy are  JEFF SAMARDZIJA & JASON HAMMEL?? going from the outhouse to the penthouse and a chance at a world series ring in oakland which everyone knows will NEVER happen on the north side of chicago had to be like christmas morning to both of them.

the shark wasted no time in getting out of dodge and then took the mound on sunday in OAKLAND against toronto and pitched 7 innings of 4 hit ball and left the game leading 3-1. amazing what a few runs will do. hammel will get his chance on the road wednesday against the giants & MATT CAIN.  good luck to both of them. after wasting too many years in chicago, i think the shark will appreciate playing with a real live major league franchise.

manny ramirez?

CARMELO ANTHONY is a dick. who did he think he was kidding with his nation wide tour? don't think for a minute that he didn't know before he visited the first team where he was going. and it doesn't matter where he goes, he's still a penis. just like LEBRON and others.

winner in NBA free agency?  our old buddy LUOL DENG, whose being courted by no less than 5 teams. remember that he turned down 30 million for three years from the bulls before being traded. can you say ka-ching?

the ALL STAR game is just around the corner and once again, the rule that each team must have a represenative serves to contaminate the game by including a member of the cubs. STARLIN CASTRO is the highest hitting cub at .290 and his inclusion will only serve to screw a deserving national leaguer of a spot on the team.

but i will say this about the north siders.  since mid-may, i think they're 25-21, which would have sent me to the poor house if i was a gambling man.  now chew on this:  the cubs would have to go 24-52 the rest of the way to lose a hundred games again.  can't be done, right? FYI-- 34-42 puts them at ninety losses........AGAIN.

speaking of the cubs, of the 13 offensive players on the cubs roster, SEVEN of them are hitting .224 OR LESS.

the WHITE SOX are still in offensive free fall with GILLASPIE, RAMIREZ, BECKHAM, NIETO, FLOWERS and our old buddy ADAM D-O-N-E losing 30-50 points off their averages since june 1st. AND DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLOSER AVAILABLE? the sox absolutely suck when it comes to the ninth inning.

the TOUR DE FRANCE!  steroids anyone?

the WNBA! yawn.

WIMBLEDON! pronounce the four finalists correctly.

WORLD CUP! the USA is gone so my interest continues only if there's nothing else on television.

manny ramirez? psssst.  he's hitting .200 and has told the players to "follow the rules." good enough for me. a great pickup for the cubs organization.

adios for now.

WHITE SOX PROBLEMS

Normally i write bad stuff about the cubs in the first paragraph because it's what i do and what they deserve BUT today it's the WHITE SOX and the beginning of the end for manager ROBIN VENTURA.

he was hired three years ago with no managing experience and had a cinderella season, with the sox coming within two weeks of post season play. last year, his lack of experience began to show with poor use of his bullpen and staying wayyyyyyyyy too long with his starters.  99 losses. ouch

so this year, loaded with better than average offensive talent, robin has pissed away a good start in april & may by falling in love with RONALD BELLISARIO as his closer and once again, staying way too long with his starters. i truly believe that robin saved his job last friday by finally removing bellisario as the closer but he still doesn't get handling his starters.

two quick examples: CHRIS SALE has thrown 105 pitches against the angels in early june and the sox lead 5-1 out on the coast. last two batters in the 7th hit line drive outs and the first two angel hitters in the 8th hit him hard again for base hits.  gotta make a move, right?  sorry.  einstein lets sale give up another hit AND then pitch to MIKE TROUT, who promptly hits a grand slam to tie the game which the sox eventually lose 6-5.

example #2: TONIGHT, robin picks SCOTT CARROLL to pitch the nightcap and carroll gives up 10 hits, 3 walks and 7 earned runs and he's STILL ON THE MOUND when the 7th inning starts.  when he walks the first two batters, THEN einstein figures it's time for a change.

there have been rumblings for a month that robin has lost the locker room because veteran players understand that he lacks the knowledge to run a ball club from wire to wire and that einstein is responsible for at least 6 losses this season and those 6 would have the sox knocking on the door in the mediocre central division.  there have also been rumors that pitching coach DON COOPER has one foot out the door because of einstein's stubborn attitude when it comes time to make a pitching move.

the sox had a terrible month of june and i figure they have until the all star break on july 14th to see if they can right the ship.....if not, expect them to become big time 'sellers' before the trading deadline on july 31st. wonder what they can get for robin?
