DREW PETERSON cost me a hundred bucks when he was found guilty of murder. my next bet says the verdict will be successfully appealed when the high courts throw out the 'hearsay law' that was passed just for the peterson trial. is he guilty? probably.....but allowing hearsay and 'voices from the grave' is a very scary thing for all of us.
POKER MACHINES are now legal in a couple of bars around the chicago area but they will be heavily scrutinized by state officials and maximum payouts will be severely limited. but people like to play so it will probably be state wide in a short amount of time. horse racing is a dying industry so the machines will help the state.
hey gov, poker machines are ok but not casinos? wake up!
CHRISTOPHER VAUGHN found guilty of murdering his family. the verdict was no surprise BUT this case was done the right way. letters, forensic evidence, bodies, direct conversations, etc. If you read the details of this trial, you'd be voting the death penalty back in. i truly understand when spouses kill each other but when you kill your own three kids at point blank range........
i feel bad for JESSE JACKSON JR. because being diagnosed as bi-polar and being treated for depression is a tough row to hoe but eventually (and soon) he will have to decide whether he can handle being a congressman while still being actively treated. will the medication keep him of sound mind or dull his senses? jackson was a very active political player and only missed two votes in 13 years but will he be able to handle the hours needed to be good at his job? he has until the end of october to make this difficult decision.
anyone catch the emmys? it was nice to see JON CRYER win for his role as allan harper on 'two and a half men' as he is truly a gifted actor with a great sense of timing. CHARLIE SHEEN never won during his 9 years on the show.
what the hell is "Veep?' JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS (from seinfeld) won best comedy actress for that show. one of these days, i'll have to order HBO.
see you later

GRAND THEFT FOOTBALL!!
i have no love lost for the GREEN BAY PACKERS but they got royally screwed by the replacement officials on monday night football. GOLDEN TATE, a cheating bastard from notre dame, committed a blatant foul on the last play of the game that WASN'T called and then received the benefit of the WORST call that i've seen in a long, long time to give the SEATTLE SEAHAWKS the win. i can't imagine how long that plane ride home was for the packers.
if anything good can come out of this, maybe the NFL powers-that-be will end the lockout with the regular officials because i GUARANTEE that these types of calls (or non-calls) will only magnify as we get deeper into the season and eventually, some jacked up lineman will explode with frustration and react to another blown call in a very physical way. mark that down.
on the other tv channel monday night, ADAM DUNN pulled the CHICAGO WHITE SOX from the abyss of defeat with two late inning home runs and kept them in first place, at least for one more day. with 41 homers, dunn has to be a very strong candidate for comeback player of the year. mercy!
by the way, don't believe the nfl standings in the sun-times. the CHICAGO BEARS have scored more points than the MINNESOTA VIKINGS and allowed less on defense. it won't last forever so enjoy your first place team!
over on the north side, the team that humiliates chicago on a regular basis still has a shot at a hundred losses. 3 games each against colorado, arizona and the dreadful houston astros. just to put it into perspectivehow bad these teams are: combine the records of the north side, colorado and houston to date and you have a combined 291 losses. two hundred and ninety-one. my fingers get tired just typing that.
i won my annual hundred dollar bet when the white sox won their 82nd game tonight and now i just need the north siders to lose 6 of the remaining 9 to cash in a real big ticket. no chance. they end up 64-98 and drown in their own vomit of mediocrity.

BASEBALL & FOOTBALL THOUGHTS
the WHITE SOX are the pride of chicago but i'm still whistling past the graveyard when i look at two things: their finishing schedule AND the detroit tigers. three games apiece against tampa bay and the angels are a little more difficult than the tiger schedule which gives them 12 consecutive games against kansas city and the twins to finish the season for the central division title. the tigers have the MVP and two great starters and a very soft schedule plus the talent to win 8 or 9 in a row. very scary.
P.S.--the loser of the central division DOESN'T make the playoffs.
THE SECOND WILD CARD in baseball was a stroke of genius by commissioner BUD SELIG. there are three teams in the american and four in the national that are duking it out for the wild card spots with two weeks to go in the regular season. good stuff.
why do the PITTSBURGH PIRATES fold every year?
JAY CUTLER is a dickhead and a loser. WHO was it that said that when the bears traded for him in 2009? oh yeah, me. he has NEVER won anything....not in high school, college and obviously the nfl. now he's fractured the locker room which is never a good thing and his best friend on the team is a sociopath wide receiver who's been on three teams in six years and wore out his welcome in both denver & miami. but cutler's contract will probably keep him around thru 2013. i just want to punch him right in that jerkface of his.
the cubs are just miserable. the empty seats make me smile because "cub fans ALWAYS support them, good or bad" but apparently not this bad. and the fact is ..........they will be WORSE in 2013.
what is wrong with the NHL? how mentally challenged are they? in the past twenty years, there have been FOUR LOCKOUTS or STRIKES, with the last one in 2004-05 costing them an entire season and millions of dollars in lost revenue plus driving the sport into the ground. these selfish pricks have to understand that work stoppages affect everyone from the team trainer to the peanut vendor and i guarantee you those people can't make up the lost revenue. the owners are wayyyyyyyy too powerful and are just sitting back in their big leather chairs with their arms folded waiting for the players to collapse like they did last time.
the CHICAGO BULLS will come out of hibernation shortly and will provide the fans with gritty and ugly basketball but the team won't quit as they wait for the 'juice' that's normally provided by DERRICK ROSE, who won't be around until february. the good news is that #1 draft choice MARQUIS TEAGUE will get valuable minutes that normally wouldn't be available if rose was healthy. the 6'2" guard out of kentucky will have time to make mistakes as he goes thru the learning process the every rookie does in the nba but the errors won't hurt as much because the bulls won't be contenders this season.
enjoy the football this weekend.

BADGERS EXPOSED EARLY
last week, it was the laughable boise state broncos who spit the bit when they finally put a real team on their schedule and this week, the mighty wisconsin badgers also realized how dangerous it is to play REAL teams at the start of the football season.
in the first month of every season, the badgers traditionally schedule teams like the university of las vegas, the citadel, north dakota state and the hadley school for the blind and beat their chests when they're 4-0 heading into their league opener. then they muscle the slow farm boy teams of the mediocre big ten and ALWAYS end up with double digit wins and a nice bowl bid BUT when they meet REAL teams on the bowl circuit, more often than not, they are embarrassed by lesser ranked teams as evidenced by losing 4 of their last 5 bowl games despite being favored in three of the four losses.
FOR YEARS, the university of wisconsin has avoided entering into contracts to play home & home series against traditionally powerful opponents such as LSU, FLORIDA STATE & OKLAHOMA. instead, they signed contracts with DIVISION II teams like north dakota state & northern iowa which only added to the disdain across the nation for the badger football program and that animosity is well deserved. the FRONT PAGE headline in the new orleans paper said it best when the university turned down LSU's offer. "BADGERS OR CHICKENS?"
the new playoff system in 2014 will put an end to their scheduling nonsense and i truly believe that it will also mark the end of wisconsin as a football "power" unless they're content to be totally ignored by the panel who will seed the teams for the playoffs. come to think of it, that wouldn't surprise me at all if the badgers intentionally avoided the championship spotlight and continued to schedule little schools and avoid the potential humiliation of playing REAL teams.
maybe biose state and wisconsin could form a new league.........

LABOR DAY THOUGHTS
the WHITE SOX rolled over and played dead AGAIN and the tigers whipped their butts again. truth be told, we can't handle their hitters and we can't hit their pitching so we need help in order to make the playoffs. 29 games to go AND we get a 4 game rematch with the tigers next week but with a 4-10 season record, it ain't looking good.
i can guarantee you the schedule maker at NOTRE DAME is under fire as the most over-rated program in the history of college football actually has to play FOUR quality teams this season. oh, they still get their patsies like navy, wake forest and boston college but they also have to play OKLAHOMA, USC, MSU and MICHIGAN with three of them on the road. what was that guy thinking???? i drool waiting for the oklahoma & usc games. my friend KEVIN in atlanta is already cringing AND looking for a place to hide.
the SEC is just loaded again. they had 10 wins and only 2 losses (outside the conference) over the weekend and both of those were to top 25 teams. ALABAMA looked awesome in crushing MICHIGAN and played angry the entire game.
i like the BEARS to make the playoffs this year but we all know that good health is the key. BRIAN URLACHER is a bit gimpy but hopefully, they will be able to rest him sporadically and save the knee. the offense will be just fine and look for DEVIN HESTER to get single coverage because of the new wide receivers and that can only spell trouble for opposing defenses. i like an 11-5 season.
RYAN BRAUN is a cheat and we all know that but assuming he's clean this year, he's right back where he was in 2011 when he was juicing. no falloff in production at all. .332, 33 hrs & 111 rbi. this year? .310, 37 & 95 for a team that was really never in contention and lacking PRINCE FIELDER who protected braun in the lineup. is he really clean?
excuse the pun but the NHL is skating on thin ice. fans stayed away in droves after the lost year in 2004-05 and with this economy, they will quickly find other uses for their money if the owners lock out the players on september 15th. wake up, gentlemen! didn't you learn a lesson last time?
and what the hell is the NFL thinking with the referee situation?? after locking them out in june, talks have stalled but here's an interesting fact. ALL of the clubs are worried about the safety and integrity of the game but all it would take to end the lockout is each of the 32 teams kicking in a hundred grand, which is spit to ALL of these teams. TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS BECAUSE IT'S SHOWTIME!!!!
